This area is in the North West section of the park just behind the main parking lot. Vasquez Rocks is located in the high desert near Agua Dulce Springs and features 932 acres of spectacular rock formations, Tataviam Indian sites, and a seasonal stream. The rocks history began in prehistoric times when the sandstone rocks were uplifted at a picturesque angle, showing their jagged red features. In 1874 Tiburcio Vasquez, one of California s most notorious bandits, used these rocks to elude capture by law enforcement. His name has since been associated with this geologic feature. The park is a popular hiking, picnicking, and equestrian area and has been used in many hit movies, television shows and commercials. The address is: West Escondido Canyon Road, Agua Dulce, CA Drive safely on your way to Vasquez Rocks. As you enter the park you will come to an intersection, go straight toward the gate. The gate should be open, drive past the gate. You will be met by the staff who will give you instructions on where to park and how to get to the camping area. There is a large parking area as you enter the park on the right. You may park there if you do not see the staff or the gate is closed. After parking proceed to the registration area.
