3 From Their Graces Stromgard Greetings to Our Family, Friends, and Neighbors, The sun sets soon on our time as the fifth Baron & Baroness of the King's lands known as Stromgard, Protector of the Stream. Their Graces Owain & Wrenn, then Sable Lion & Lioness, tasked us three years ago to shepherd Stromgard and her people in their stead. It was a task easily accepted because of our great love for the society, our baronial traditions, and the people of Stromgard, whom we serve. We have been proud to represent such a community here at home and when traveling throughout the kingdom. Your dedicated deeds were a pleasure to witness and of which to speak. Though busy at times, the baronial coronet position is a rewarding office. We have had the pleasure of recognizing members of the populace for unselfish acts, deeds of valor, intentional growth, and contributions that enhance our medieval lives. Stromgard events are jewels of An Tir, bringing joy, friendly yet fierce competitions, and companionship to participants. We are fortunate to have been supported in our service by many helpful hands. From great hours of toil to small acts of simple kindnesses, from care of our young sons to words of encouragement, from running errands to wrangling both of us, the assistance shown has been generous and greatly appreciated. Thank you to each who has helped us to be able to complete this endeavor. Each deed fueled our efforts to help bring Stromgard's visions to fruition. Let all welcome our dear friends and family His Lordship Sargent Squire Ivon Drengr and Ducessa Hlutwige Wolfkiller as the next Baron & Baroness. We ask that you treat both with the same warmth and support showered on us as they accept the mantle of responsibility for serving you and An Tir. Both have Stromgard in their hearts and minds holding true to her legacy of helping all to find their path in our society. They will nurture your talents and speak well of your strengths. Stromgard will be well guided and represented. As we end this term, we share with you these thoughts we have gleaned during our tenure. *Everyone has a role to play. Welcome all and help them find their place. *Be kind and patient. Your investment may uncover a diamond in the rough. *Everyone benefits from a pat on the back and acknowledgement of effort from time to time. You never know the impact of a welltimed word. *Generosity builds community. Share your time, knowledge, talents, and skills. *Not everything runs smoothly, but it is often the challenges that teach us the most & result in great memories and traditions. *Inspire one another to greatness and be worthy of such inspiration yourself. Thank you, once again, for your faith in us and the privilege of serving as your Baron & Baroness. In Fealty to the Crowns of An Tir, Tiernan, Ri Tuatha Stromgard Miranda, ban Bheran Stromgard

6 Announcments Page 6 Greetings! I would like to share with everyone the following letter from our most recent SCA President, Tom Hughes. As he indicates, it has been a busy past three years for the SCA, and his summary speaks for itself. We thank him for his time spent on behalf of our organization! There have been other position changes effective this past weekend, please welcome Arthur Donadio as the newest Director, Mark Faulcon as Chairman, and Lisa May as Vice-Chair. As always, we encourage everyone to share their thoughts, concerns, questions with us at [mailto:comments@sca.org] comments@sca.org. Leslie Vaughn Incoming President, SCA, Inc. April 20, 2013 Greetings unto the SCA, I stepped down at the end of the April 2013 Board Meeting. During the past three years, it has been my extreme pleasure and supreme honor to serve you and the members of the SCA. When I stepped up as Interim Society Exchequer in January 2010 and then as President in July 2010, the SCA was slowly bleeding to death financially since the revenue and cost models were out of balance, the Corporate Staff was burdened the need to manage responses to the legal matters in Pennsylvania, and the SCA was responding to changes in state laws and enforcement relative to foreign corporations as it relates to SCA, Inc. operating in states other than California. There have been many accomplishments which we can celebrate. These include: 1. Formation of 15 subsidiaries; 2. Returning the SCA to a cash-flow positive basis; 3. Revising the revenue model for the SCA; 4. Reducing the operating costs for publication of the SCA s kingdom newsletters. 5. Creation of the Vice President of Information Technology to guide the SCA s use of computer and information technology. 6. Upgrades to the SCA s information technology infrastructure. 7. Development of electronic newsletters for sustaining members. 8. Settling the Pennsylvania lawsuit; 9. Settling the lawsuit against the non-compliant insurance companies; 10. Regulating youth combat at Society level; 11. Development of an updated, draft Youth Policy; and 12. Establishment of the new Youth and Family Activities Program. The SCA Board has embarked on developing and adopting a new Long Range Plan which represents a renaissance in SCA governance. I firmly believe that these efforts will result in a better game and a better corporation. However, some opportunities remain for continued improvement, namely: attracting and retaining members; continuing to make the SCA a member, family and youth friendly social organization; and maintaining a long term sustainable organization. As I depart, I end by repeating my usual mantra: I command all SCA members to Have fun and make our game fun for everyone, everyday! As always, I remain in service to the SCA. The drum of heaven has begun to beat, driving scheme and plot, while the year's bounty of harvest and plan begin now to unfurl from winters slumber and reach ever upward, ever forward. Shake off your blankets and stir yourselves to the call of vitality. Tourney Season looms nigh with new coronet to lead us, new officers to inspire us, and the crowns call to war clear and urgent. This is our SEASON! Many thanks to her Grace for standing in for your absent Seneschal. I had made arrangements with work to leave early on this day, but the supervisor I had those arrangements with no longer works at the library. So, on the 21st day of May look to the east and there you shall find me! Item the Firstus: For the brief duration of my remaining time as Seneschal, please call me if it is an urgent matter needing my attention or me at SquireFelix@gmail.com. Yahoo (aptly named) has locked the Seneschal3m Account for my sin of upgrading my computer. Since it did not recognize the physical computer, despite having the correct password, my SCA electronic communication has been blocked for two weeks. Part B: Barony of Three Mountains Council Minutes April 2013 Page 13 I recommend that officer's write down the password recovery questions and their EXACT answers and submit them to our Web minister so that this can be avoided for others in the future. Addendum Alpha: Look at the number of open offices. Havoise words in February about needing to scare up some new people is appropriate and timely. We need these positions filled to be a healthy, progressive barony. Consider the idea of a 3M sponsored Demo in Three Mountains! Bring your ideas to next council, Felix's Last Hurrah. Item Finalus: You all need a new Senescal. The old one's broke. I haven't received any word, questions, or offers and tonights absence should be reason enough to replace that wandering gypsy with someone whose schedule is more stable. Item Totalus Finalus, No really I mean it this time! I will be here at 8.30 to sign anything that needs signing. Thanks again all! It has been an interesting month. There have been five contacts regarding attendance at events and possible membership. There has been some more discussion with various entities regarding rental space for a renewed Social Night that information will be summarized on a separate sheet for Their Excellencies, the Seneschal and the Exchequer. And there was a contact fro a lady looking for medieval-type costumes for a high-school production of MacBeth. After consulting with Felix and Malcolm, I arranged to rent costumes to the from our Gold Key collection; last Friday I picked up the garb from Mariotta (MANY, many thanks to her for doing this, even though she was feeling wretched with The Plague), and on Monday I delivered the garb to the school for the show, which will be this weekend. From them I received two checks, to be delivered to Malcolm; one for $ to rent the clothing, and one for $ as a security deposit. The clothing should all be returned sometime next week. In service, Havoise de Rohan Gold Key: Mariotta absent, written report. Greetings onto their Excellencies Aeden and Alexandria, and the good populace of Three Mountains Unfortunately mundane work schedules have me burning the midnight oil for the next few weeks. At the time of the meeting I will be heading into work and thus unable to attend in person so please accept this report in my absence. This month gold key was not at any events, but we did, however, loan out a significane amount of garb to a local school for their rendition of MacBeth. Our illusterious chatelaine has all those details, I just sleepily went thru the garb with her and helped pull appropriate outfits for the cute little ones. That's all for this month. YIS Lady Mariotta MacDonald Chronicler: Hlutwige present, written report. Greetings, the Apirl Fools issue of The PLUME was ready and published on the website on the first. I hope y all enjoyed it. I made the proposal to the Stromgard Council on April 6th (to include officers information, local meeting information and council minutes in the PLUME) which was ABC d. Beginning with the May issue I will endeavor to create a new format that will with equity satisfy both noble Baronies for as long as is needed or till my term as 3M chronicler ends. Her Ladyship Selene was the first to find the plume in the issue my thanks to all those who played. With my regards, Ducessa Hlutwige Historian: Thalia absent, written report. Greetings to Their Excellencies, Officers and Populace of Three Mountains, I am a bit under the weather and will be unable to attend council this evening.

16 The event report for Welcoming Court was posted to the Plume last month. Thank you to Ducessa Hlutwige for adding it to the the newsletter. Greetings unto the Baron and Baroness of the Barony of Three Mountains and its populace. No major changes to the website at this time to report. In Service, Aleksii Volkovich Page 16 Knight Marshal: Merowyn absent, written report. Greetings! Here are the Marshaling reports for the April council meeting. 1) Rapier Marshal: Rapier practice continues Mondays without incident or equipment failure. YIS Talbot 2) Archery Marshal: Little to report, Aibinn and I are in the process of getting our lives back in order, due to some rather sobering real life events these past few months. I apologize for not making any attempt of a report the previous month. Practice is still on hold, but as weather improves, there is a likelihood of practice coming up at Washington Park, more to come on that. I am working with Aibinn to come up with a fun and challenging Archery competition for this coming Champions. If any questions feel free to contact me. In service, Andrew 3) Lists: I am unable to attend Council this month, but Lists has no activities to report. Confirmations of Office applications: none Events 3M champions June 15: Ai binn Steward present written report. Barony of Three Mountains Champions, June 15, 2013 The event budget is slightly lower due to the final quote on biffies from Hudson. However, I added most of the savings on biffie costs into the food/snacks portion of the budget; a review of past event reports indicated that this was an under-budgeted area. Evidently not everyone brings potluck items and yet still expects to eat and many people don t bring feast gear so we need to provide paper plates, plastic utensils, etc. Final budget figure is $540 (Council originally approved $553) and the break-even on paid adult attendees is 68 attendees at $8 each. The EIF and Crier copy are to be approved tonight and sent by right after Council. I requested permission to turn this information in one-day after the deadline due to the death in our family as well as the timing of our Council meeting since official Seneschal signature is needed. Of course the date is already on the kingdom calendar because Felix submitted the DRF long ago. Last year there was no Crier copy, but we can hope they will accept the info one day late this year and still publish it in June. Tonight I am giving HL Felix the insurance certificate request so he can submit that. [Thank you!] Biffies have been reserved, though Hudson wants our current billing information (e.g., new Post Office box address and the financial person s name). May I get this information tonight?

18 Contacting last year s champions is proving to be a challenge. There are no addresses on file for the Armored Champion, Yojimbo Hiroshi-nin, the Thrown Weapons Champion, Earnon Parthalan, or the Youth Champion, Terbish of 3M. Does anyone at council have contact information they can furnish? This also points out that we must contact information from our Champions right at the event this year. Volunteers are needed, especially for set-up and take-down, but also for assisting with parking, water-bearing, gate, etc. Please contact me if you can give any time/effort at the event. Thank you! Yours in Service, Aíbinn ingen hui Néill (Cynthia Malain) Sport of Kings, August 2013 Khalja Steward present written report. Greetings all, This month we: - Officially released the Sport of Kings website for the 2013 event and have steadily been adding content. Vivien is doing a phenomenal job. - Finalized the t-shirt design. - Received approval on the event copy from the Seneschal. It is on the website. Will be distributed elsewhere shortly. - Sent off the EIF. Waiting for confirmation that it has been received. - Sent off the PGE paperwork. Waiting for confirmation that it has been received. - Ordered garbage service and portable toilets. - The class instructors are working hard at getting instructor commitments. We are on track for this time of year. - Monthly staff meetings have been scheduled through August. - Several staff positions opened up due to "life happening" but have already been replaced with new volunteers. - Several staff members walked the site this past weekend. We have tweaked the placement of the list field and a few of the class areas to further accommodate our vision for the event. We are very excited about these changes. - Movie night (fight video analysis and commentary) at Sport of Kings is again happening Thursday night. Sir Armenius has agreed to be the activity sponsor and the VC will be making pizza in their wood fired oven. - Conchobar has been working the new class registration system and expects to be ready to start testing soon. The upper floor of the CC has proved to be a good place for the Baronial Arts and Sciences Tournament with the out of doors area nice for a small tournament. I hope to gain the assistance of the Baronial Arts and Sciences minister as well as the Arts and Sciences Champion to deal with the necessary planning for that aspect of the event. Talbot has offered to run a rapier tournament with the theme Panache. As we have done for the last two Honour Feasts, there will be activities and food all day with the final remove being a period feast with seats for 20 above the salt as well as a meal for those below the salt which will be a standing buffet of sorts. After consultation with the honouree Malcolm, it has been decided that in order to obtain one of the coveted 20 seats for the period feast those interested must petition His Excellency Malcolm in writing. My plan is to create a link to the 3M Facebook page for these petitions. Malcolm will be choosing the 20 from the petitions posted. If one does not have access to FB one may submit the petition to me and I will post it to the page. Keeping in mind the overall theme of panache will help when writing your petition. No matter where you are, above or below the salt, there is no change in the site fee. I would like to put together a decorating crew as well as a dishwashing scullery and clean up brigade. I will be rounding out the staff over the next few months. Site Cost: $100 refundable deposit,

Looking to have an armoring workshop with several tracks at once geared to armoring new fighters. Instructors & an appropriate workshop are in the works & soon to be finalized. Cheesemaking & bobbin lace making have been specifically requested. Grand Thing cheesemaking class "From Goat to Cheese" will happen under the eyes of Condessa Ilaria & myself. YiS - Archos Sionaid/Nettie A&S Deputy: Boda Herald: Stanton present, written report. Herald s Report, Barony of Stromgard, March 2013, (reported April 3, 2013) Greetings, I did not attend any events this past month, and so I have little to report. I have 2 confirmed heralds assisting at Grand Thing, and I am working on more. At the Grand Thing planning meeting, we discussed raising money for the Baronial Travel Fund by offering Buy A Cry. A merchant or individual could buy an announcement for a small fee, with the money going to a good cause. Another option we discussed was for roving insults. I want to ask the council for $40.00 to pay for materials so I can build a portable sign for Herald s Point. The design will be a basic A- Frame with a 4 x 3 hanging sign. The sign will help identify where the Point is, and will serve as a central point for Town Crier announcements, map of the site, etc. I am still looking for deputies; anyone interested can contact me directly to discuss the possibilities, at macllyr@... In service, HL Stanton MacLlyr, Red Trident Pursuivant Scribe: Valdemere present written report. Greetings to Their Graces Tiernan and Miranda and Her Ladyship Attia. YIS, Valdemere Chatelaine: Illaria present, written report. Gearing up for Grand Thing. Ilaria Gold Key: Jacqueline present written report. Salvete Attia Prima Seneschale from Madame Jacqueline de Lioncourt, Herein is found my report for March 2013 being reported upon the Easter feast of our Lord. A large plastic bag full of teen-sized clothing was donated to Stromgard at Stormgods last year. I have inventoried that bag. We are truly well set for Grand Thing in terms of clothes. I will use the stall near the Gate. I do need to purchase 4 smaller bins to hold the clothes because I cannot carry the larger bins. I also need to purchase two clothing racks to replace the old ones. I also want to make a "Gold Key" banner to direct newcomers to the booth. We have very few hats/veils, so I might want to make unisex hoods with the linen donated by Amice. Lots of fighting. Hopefully the monastery will not the raided this year the monks are a little put out about tall their stuff going missing. The equestrians will be playing and also talking about horse if you are interested this is a great event to come and meet the horses & owners. Will be asking for some checks at the next month meeting. The honey bucket biffies are on order with a pumping each day the cost will be $ we will need a check when they are delivered. Teen activities will need $200 we are planning on setting up a teen center for meet and greet also so that most of the activities and be conducted there. Stormgods July 26-28, 2013: Justin Steward. Major attendance change.. One thing the event has going for it is the support of the Summits as last year. Discussion conserning a fee change. Either over all or for the day trip. Agreed to keep the fees the same this year. ABC d Suggestion of moving the thrown weapons and archery from Grand Thing to Stormgods. Yule Feast December 7, 2013: Steward AElfwynn present, written report. I have been approached by the Hannah, the 3M Yule autocrat about potentially having a combined Yule this year, potentially including Dragon's Mist. Hannah is going to be at the meeting to present her idea to the Council. Everything else is proceeding on schedule. YIS, AElfwynn Discussion: close to 75 at last stromgard yule, dm at 80 and 3m about 120, close to 200 people. Sites may become an issue. Stromgard has committed to the hall for this year and would not hold 200. Last time combined Yule and it was tight. Everyone seems to believe it is a good idea but because ST is committed to the grange this year would like to explore it for the future. Aelfwynn will work on the idea for 2014 with 3m and dm. Founding Revel February 8, 2014: Justin Steward present verbal report. He will be aiming for the 8th of February 2014, but it will be whatever site he gets. Has head cook and tournament idea. Many thanks to Raul and amice for their generous contribution. Customary review: Will be scheduled for the fall of this year.
