2 Announcements Page 2 Greetings to all. A request from your kingdom Chronicler! I hope to step down at May Crown, when my warrant expires. But I've gotten no response at all from repeated announcements that I need a successor. Please help me spread the word. We need a new kingdom Chronicler -- a volunteer stepping forward now will have a couple months to learn the job. (And to remain a kingdom, we have to have a chronicler.) My first advice to anyone who is interested is to read the SCA Publication Policies posted on the An Tir website under Chronicler, resources. We need someone who is reliable, has desktop publishing experience (I produce the Crier using In- Design), and has good people skills. The job entails responsibility for all kingdom publications, for supervising and aiding branch chroniclers, and for producing the Crier each month. This can be done using deputies -- an interested household or network of friends is a very good thing. I have a deputy as my first line of service to branch chroniclers, for instance. I have a listings editor who sends changes & corrections on officers. The Kingdom Calendar is put together by a kingdom seneschal's deputy. And the Royal retinue sends in the kingdom awards. The job does take a fair amount of work -- there's a lot of to go through (most time on Crier editing actually involves rounding up info or chasing corrections, long before you get to the production work itself), plus the duties mentioned above. It tends to be an invisible position; you're not going to get awards or recognition in court. But for those who enjoy service and like working with newsletters and trying to help keep the organization going, it's very rewarding. Anyone interested, please contact me directly at crier-ed@antir.sca.org. I also can be reached at home most evenings, Grand merci! Godith of Goosefoot Mead An Tir Chronicler A message of note from Their Excellencies, Be it known that we Alfric and Jill take upon ourselves our prerogative to continue the tradition set forth by our forbearers to banish in perpetuity the Clan of Some from these lands which we hold in fief for the Crown of An Tir.. Neither will we allow the afore said clan any comfort nor hospitality. This being done on this first day of May in the New Year A. S. Forty and Seven. FIND THE PLUME! Hidden somewhere in this issue is a plume (of one sort or another). Once the publication of this issue has been officially announced the game is on. Be the first to find it and notify me by before the next council meeting at: hlutwige@gmail.com. The first to find it may receive a prize at council! You must be present to win.

See From Their Excellencies in the May issue of The PLUME. Seneschal: Felix present, verbal report. Newcomers? none At this point everyone has had a chance to lay hands on a customary. In spite of the fact that the customary didn t get up on the web site do we want to wait another month so more folks can get a look at it? A few folks seem to want it (ratified) to be extended for a month. Clarification regarding why. Paper copies were available for the asking. ABC d will keep it available for one more month will be ratified in June. Seneschal change between now and next council. All officers are to now have an officer account officer (at) yahoo (dot) com. Why? Often it seems that contact from folks looking for officers are unable to connect. Either folks personal accounts are messed up or other reasons. It may end up being more complicated than we might think. There seem to be reasons in favor and reasons against. Should this be up to a council concensus? More comments and concerns than he thought there would be, so he will continue to do some more research and discuss the issue with officers. Deputy Seneschal: Attia & Hlutwige present. 7 Notes- Baronial Council Meeting Minutes April 2012 Page 7 This report is somewhat incomplete, as the Barony financed two events since last report, and both of them occurred last Saturday, and all results are not yet in and reflected in the above numbers. The Barony s First Quarter Report did finally go in to Kingdom. I asked the Chronicler about doing the required publishing of the 2011 Doomsday Balance and Income and Expense Sheets, and she assured me they will appear on the Baronial web-site in due course. I received the annual bill from the Postmaster for the rental of our Post Office Box, $76.00 for the next twelve months, payment for which I will be requesting during Money Talks. And, in late breaking news, this morning I received the revised numbers from Hudson s Garbage Service for July Coronation, $ 2,276.50, which reflects the dropping the hand-washing stations, and adding a third biffie cleaning. That s it. Chamberlain Office is Open for Application: Duncan present, written report. Greetings All, Due to circumstances beyond my control I will not be at Council tonight. I opened the storage unit for William Mor for the 3M Thrown weapons event last weekend and will opening it again next Saturday morning for Talia, so she can get stuff for 3M Champions. As my term as Chamberlain is up, anyone interested in the job is welcome to contact me about learning what it is all about. In Service, Duncan. A&S: Eleanor present written report. A & S Social for July Coronation plans sent to Vivien Event Steward and Volunteer Coordinator classes arranged for 2nd Monday Social. Thanks to Vivien and Qaratani Dance Report Received from Slaine inghean ui Maille. In April we had the Segentcy dance trials. Good job Sebastian. I have nothing else to report. A&S Quarterly Reports sent on time. In service, Eleanor de Sackville, OP Dance: Slaine present, written report. Greetings! In April we had the Segentcy dance trials. Good job Sebastian. I have nothing else to report. Yours in Service, Slaine inghean ui Maille Herald: Constance present, absent written report. Greetings all. I was at the Thrown Weapons event and there were no awards given. Sorry I am not at the meeting, but as you are reading this, my Lord husband and I are getting settled in Victoria for our 10 year wedding anniversary. I hope this is a good excuse for not being there. With that said, I will be "out of the office" until the 23rd at the earliest. My deputy, Kattera Giese, will do her best to help you in my absent. Heraldic news you may care about (sorry so long, but at least there is some good news and this does affect us all): The March LoAR was published but I didn't see anything for anyone in our Barony. At the last BOD meeting, new Rules for Submission were approved. (pause for groans) I am still working my way through them to get the new rules into my head. Bad news about the new rules. Style based rules have gotten stricter so that more period names and armory are getting registered. (pause for more groans) Good news about the new rules. Rules that are conflict based have gotten loser meaning more things can now get registerer! (pausing for shouts of joy) Examples you may care about, adding a branch name to an award name now clears conflict, so our Heart of Three Mountains is no longer in conflict with three, four, maybe five other branches and I will be working on that paperwork this coming month. Another change that should bring many cheers to all changing the primary charge (i.e. the main, big charge) now clears all conflicts. So before, <Argent mullety gules, a wolf sable and a chief gules> would have conflict with <Argent mullety gules, a lion sable and a chief gules>. They are now clear! (pause for more shouts of joy) For those with items in submission, do not worry. Those items will be judged (for lack of a better word) under both the new and old rules, which will help your submission more. For those working on a submission, I would advise you get it in ASAP. If I understand things correctly, items on the next, maybe the next two, Letters of Intent sent up by Kingdom will be judged with the new and old rules at Laurel. After that, only the new rules. Again, the main reason I say to rush on this is cause with both rules in affect, you have less things that will hold you up. For all new submission that are needing to wait, you can check out the new handy checklist < If you would like to see more about the changes, check out < for a list of changes. By the way, the Board, NOT THE HERALDS (for once, we can't be blamed for something), has renamed the Rules of Submission to the Standards for Evaluation of Armory and Names. Yeah, I think it sounds a bit pretentious too, but it is also a more correct term and I think was changed to make it sound more friendly. In Service Lady Constance Wyatt Mountains Pursuivant

8 Baronial Council Meeting Minutes April 2012 Page 8 Scribe: Randal present, written report. Randal FitzAlan to their excellencies and council greetings, Paint night continues, Scrolls continue. My office comes open in October, At this point I open this office for applicants for a replacement. In Service Randal FitzAlan the Redowtable Chatelaine: Havoise present, written report. Greetings unto Their Excellencies Alfric and Jill, unto the Officers and populace of the Barony of Three Mountains, and especially unto the sun and warmer temperatures. Unlike last month, which was pretty slow, this month has been a busy one. I attended Faire in the Grove and spoke with six or eight people (I lost count) who were interested in the SCA; some, because they lived in Washington County, were re-directed to Dragon's Mist officers. In addition, I have had contact from six people in just the last week or so; some brand new, several returning to the SCA after an absence (we seem to be having a notable incursion of folks from Atenveld). And the quarterly reports were sent in. In service, Havoise de Rohan +got another newcomer and at social night two more newcomers Gold Key: Alexandria present, written report. Gold Key was very low key in this merry month of May. Our passions for fashions found other ways to play. Quet, waiting anticipating the changing of the new day. office now open, and I'm a Hopin' new blood, truck it away! Alexandria illughmin8@gmail.com Chronicler: Hlutwige present, written report. Three Mountains Chronicler Report May 14, Greetings, The Plume was posted to the Baronial Web site on May 7. I will send my quarterly report this week. It will consist mainly of nothing new to report. Due to an oversight on my part, neither the customary, the financial policy nor Malcolm s Exchequer reports were not posted to the web site until yesterday. Bugger. With my regards. Ducessa Hlutwige, Chronicler of The PLUME, Barony of Three Mountains Web: Aleksii absent, written report. Greetings to the Council and Populous of the Barony of Three Mountains, The Three Mountains Customary and Baronial financial policy have been added to the website as well as 2 Domesday reports. I apologize for the delay in getting them onto the website, I was having severe computer problems as well as login problems on the 3M website followed by some interface problems with the website while using Internet Explorer 9. A hardrive and a motherboard later and some help with the logins from Conchobar as well as a switch to firefox and I am now able to update the site once more. I will be updating the officers in the next few days. If anyone needs to modify the information that I have, I can be contacted at Aleksii.volkovich@gmail.com. My phone number and address are listed in the Officers section of the website. In Service, Aleksii Volkovich Knight Marshal: Merowyn present, written report. Greetings! 9 Baronial Council Meeting Minutes April 2012 Page 9 (3) Youth Marshal: Nothing to report. Comments: Overall numbers in Rapier and Heavy fighting are consistent and beginning to rise as we move into the spring/summer season. There has recently been some heavy armor contributions to the Barony Including two sound helmets and a pair of metal gauntlets. YIS Merowyn Rapier: Talbot present, written report. Greetings Rapier practice continues well attended on Mondays without any safety issues. YIS Talbot Archer: Ersebet absent, nothing to report. Youth Marshal: Sable present, written report Youth Armored Combat Report Barony of Three Mountains April 2012 May 14, 2012 I Bid Greetings to Their Excellencies and to the Populace of the most glorious and honorable Barony of the Knowne World, that is Three Mountains, The armor that I loaned out last month has come back since the father of the young fighters had a stroke of ingenuity. He claims this did not hurt and the doctors are baffled at his recovery. He figured that it was easy enough to build something that fit a little better than trying to make something that wasn t built for his boys work. Would that we all had the time to work at things this way. The Warden of Dragon s Mist has asked if I can assist with the youth armored combat activities that she is planning for the Grand Thing. I informed her that I would help where I could. If you would like to have Youth Armored Combat at an event this summer, please get in touch with me so that I can arrange for authorized marshals. Anyone of you interested in youth armored combat, please get in touch with me. We have a lot of loaner gear that can be used to get someone started and right now it is just sitting doing nothing. And I know that I will begin to sound like a broken record, but I know how difficult it is to garner volunteers for open positions ositions sitions sitions {smack} in our Barony so I will continue to ask until someone comes forth: while there is plenty of time until my tenure as Baronial Warden for Youth Armored Combat ends, this will be my last term as the local Warden. It does take time to train an individual to be ready to take over such an assignment. I must say that while the office is oriented to fighting, one does not have to be a fighter to run the program much like being a heavy marshal. You only need to be willing to connect youth with able fighters to teach and learn, as well as a little paperwork and some time commitment for practices and some events. There is nothing else to report at this time. In Service, Sebastiaen Sable des Roseaux G.d.S. Youth Armored Combat Warden Three Mountains Barony Aka David Hemmer Portland, OR List: Rusudan present, written report. Lists has no activities to report. YIS, Rusudan Chirurgeion: Rusudan present, written report. The Chirurgeon has no activities to report. YIS, Rusudan Open Offices: Event Coordinator; Armorer; Youth Combat (4/2012); Dance Master; Exchequer deputy; Demo Coordinator; Historian. Applications for Open Offices: May 15, 2012 *Unto the Barony of 3 Mountains, Hersir Alfric, Baroness Jill, Council and Populace, The office of 3 Mountains Stock Clerk has just become available and I would like to apply for this position at this time. My qualifications are what I believe, more than sufficient. I have held this office for many years, have space to keep the box containing the items associated with this office and I am well trained at doing nothing. This office does not require a whole lot of talent other than being able to occasionally sell an armoring manual or a bumper sticker. Oh yes, and occasionally taking inventory. I am positive I would be able to handle taking inventory especially I know at this time we have many bumper stickers and many armoring manuals. Being Norse, it is quite easy to count to "MANY". Whomever holds this office would not need to know how to type or spell real guud either, which is perfect for me. I will be able to handle sending a report in once a month, provided I am reminded at least a month in advance. Please consider electing me again as Stock Clerk as I love this office and without it I would get very bored for probably at least 5 minutes. YIS, HL Meri of the Bears *To the Baron and Baroness of Three Mountains, I would like to extend an offer of serving the Barony by being the keeper of the Baronial Gold Key. This is a position that I have held previously while living in the Midrealm and serving the Barony of Cynnabar (Ann Arbor Michigan). I promise to keep all of the gold key contents clean and safe from damage. I will perform needed repairs on current inventory items and add any basic necessities that the collection is lacking. I will make gold key available at large baronial events and whenever contacted by newcomers who are in need. I look forward to serving the Barony in this manner. Yours in Service, Lady Mariotta MacDonald (mka Amy Snow)

I respectfully wish to hereby submit my application for the position of Baronial scribe, soon to be open. I previously held this position for two terms, and was, I hope, successful in running the office. Currently charter painting is regularly occurring at out house on every Tuesday except for council nights, and this could continue. I would also hope to teach classes on scribal subjects, and to organize classes taught by others. Many thanks for the consideration of the council and the population of the barony in this matter.
