2 Dear Scout Leaders, Greetings and welcome to 2012 Exporee Race to the Summit. The Boy Scouts of America is opening its new high adventure base in West Virginia with the upcoming 2013 Jamboree. The name of the high adventure base is the Summit. We are excited about the base, and we want to get a head start on the fun that this new camp will offer for the scouts in our area. In honor of our new high adventure base, this year s Exporee theme is Race to the Summit! The Exporee will be held at the Anderson Civic and Recycle Center in Anderson, SC. This is the same site as the 2009 Exporee, and it will surely be a weekend full of fun and challenging activities. In addition, an exposition area will showcase Boy Scout memorabilia from the past century, including uniforms, books, camping, hiking, and climbing equipment, local trails, and perhaps even some of your own units. On Saturday night, we will hold a celebration that will thrill and challenge us. Our campfire style celebration will showcase 3000 scouts, from Tigers to Venture Scouts (be sure to bring your unit flag and a stand). Boy Scouts, Venture Crews, and Webelos Dens are welcome to camp together as combined units or as separate units. Packs are welcome to come and camp with their families (one adult per Tiger or Cub Scout). Packs will have their own campsites. Several Trading Posts will be open for snacks, lunches, dinners, drinks, t-shirts, and additional 2012 Olympic Exporee Race to the Summit patches. On Saturday, the Scout Shop will set up a trading post to sell useful and fun scouting memorabilia. Come Friday evening, get set up, and join us for a leaders meeting, which will outline the weekend s activities. Saturday morning we will start with a 2012 Exporee Race to the Summit opening ceremony. Activities for Scouts of all ages will fill the day! We will then close with an evening of great entertainment at the Civic Center Amphitheatre. Sunday morning we will provide a worship service that we ask all units to attend. For planning purposes, we would like to receive your registration form and fees at the Council Service Center by 5:00 PM, Friday, April 6, The price includes camp and event preparation, patches, awards, event packets, and insurance and program information. Preregistration also gives you access to an Exporee Pass, which will help you through on-site registration, and two free adult passes. Through pre-registration, you may also pre-pay for t- shirts and lunch plates at reduced rates. Remember to attend the Leader s Orientation Meeting on Friday night. Our staff will be introduced and additional information will be shared with you at this time. After the orientation meeting, there will be time for you to discuss information with your unit before TAPS. 4 Exporee - Race to the Summit General Information WHEN: Friday, May 4 th through Sunday, May 6 th WHERE: Anderson Civic & Recycle Center see map CAMPSITES: First come, first serve site selection. Tent camping. Campsites are on open, grassy fields. Camping will not be organized by districts. Packs and Troops will be separated. Packs will camp in the same site with families (one adult per child). Vehicles will not be allowed to remain in campsites. Please help the staff monitor the conditions of the Exporee facilities so that things are left better than when you found them. LEAVE NO TRACE! PARKING/FIRST AID: There will be plenty of parking available. Participants will be asked to park all vehicles in designated parking areas. Vehicle access into the camping areas will be allowed for one vehicle per unit. You may pull a trailer to your site with your vehicle. Your trailer may remain in the campsite, but your vehicle must be move to the parking area afterwards. Pack accordingly. First aid will be available at a First Aid/Medical Station. Each Unit should also make their own first aid provisions. Local EMS, fire, and law enforcement will be informed of our events. Leaders should collect all medications and dispense them at the proper time. UTILITIES: Water will be available on the site, but please bring full water containers. All Scouts should carry a canteen or water bottle with them during the events. Portable toilets will be provided. All trash is to be carried to an on-site dumpster. Your scouts will have an opportunity to learn about recycling. Bring your own trash bags and leave you campsite clean. COOKING: Food Tickets may be purchased for lunch and dinner. This saves the hassle of cooking. When you cook, cook with gas, liquid fuel, or grills. No grills or other cooking facilities are available on site. Fires are allowed in above ground fire pits, and your above ground fires must be manned. NO GROUND FIRES! No in-ground pits are to be dug. Fires are to be attended at all times. Bring your own wood. No flames in tents. UNIFORMS: Class A uniforms are required at the Saturday morning Opening Ceremony, Saturday Campfire, and Sunday morning Worship Service. Otherwise, Class B (a scout tee shirt) uniforms are recommended for the rest of the time. This is a Scouting function--make sure your Scouts are dressed accordingly. TRADING POST: There will be several trading post locations for your convenience. The main trading post (the big tent) will offer many food items for purchase, and this will be the location for you to redeem vouchers you have purchased for lunch and dinner plates. If you buy a lunch voucher, it is good for lunch only. If you buy dinner vouchers, they are good for dinner only. Prepurchased vouchers represent a discounted price, but all food items are available for sale a-lacarte. We will offer 2012 Exporee Race to the Summit tee shirts. You may pre-purchase these at a discount or purchase at the Exporee. The cost of pre-ordering a shirt will be $12, and the price will increase to $15 at the Exporee. Satellite locations will be open in the camping and activity areas, serving snacks and drinks. Ice will be available for purchase at the main location for your convenience. No breakfast will be served. EXHIBIT/MUSEUM AREA: Don t forget to visit the large exhibit area, which will be located near the main concession area. Patches, vintage uniforms, and scouting artifacts will be displayed. Vendors will also be set up at this location.

5 Exporee Race to the Summit REGISTRATION INFORMATION The Exporee Staff is in the process of having everything in place for your unit to have an outstanding weekend, so please make every effort to fill in the Registration Form completely. Cost to register: Overnight Campers: $18 each (this includes any campers, cub scouts, boy scouts, venturers, and adults) After the April 6 th date, the price will go up to $20. NO EXCEPTIONS Non Campers: $10 each (Scouts and Adults) Two free leaders with early registration. Register by Friday, April 6 for these discounts. This fee includes unit registration items, insurance, participation in events, admission to all the displays, demonstrations, use of utilities (water and portable toilets), site preparation, and one official Exporee patch per participant. Additional patches and souvenirs will be available for sale at the Trading Post. When to register: Pre-Registration deadline is Friday, April 6, 2012 by 5 PM. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN This event is rain or shine On-site check-in is Friday, May 4 th from 4:00 8:00 PM for campers On-site check in for non-campers is from 7:30 AM till 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 5 th You will receive at Express Check-in: (100% of registration) Exporee pre-registration packet with complete schedule, event and campsite maps, one parking pass for the campsite, campsite and gateway inspection forms. Express Pass to speed your unit past the long wait at the check-in are. This will allow you to go directly to your camping site. Exporee Activity Cards (required by each crew, patrol, or den in the activity areas) Exporee Youth Passports, to be stamped after completion of Activities Pre-ordered Exporee T-shirt voucher to redeem at the Trading Post Pre-ordered Meal Vouchers 2 free leader registrations On Site Check-in: No pre-registration packet. Schedules and maps at check-in On-Site check-in. Slower than Exporee Express. Campsites are first come, first served Issue of Express Activity cards and Exporee Youth Passports at check-in No discounts for lunches at the Trading Post You will not receive 2 free leader registrations per unit ($36 savings) You will pay $20 for registration instead of $18 ($2 per person) Express check in is worth getting 100% of your registration in by April 6 th!

7 Late Registration Any registration received after Friday April 6 th needs to include fees for all adults, and that cost will be $18. Questions? On the bottom left hand corner is a green area just off of Martin Luther King Blvd. This is the Recycle Center where we will have our camping and events. The blue rectangle (grey on the black and white hard copy) across the street is the civic center where we will have our campfire. The Recycle Center is directly behind Anderson Mall. EVERYBODY IS COMPUTER SAVY IN 2012, so instead of doing a complicated map from all directions in our council, I am including the address. Please use Map Quest or a GPS device.
