Welcome to Federated Women's Institutes of Canada Convention 2Ol5 It is with great pride and pleasure that New Brunswick Women's Institutes extend an invitation to you to attend the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada Convention This will be held at the Fredericton Convention Centre, 670 Queen Street, Fredericton, NB. New Brunswick is becoming more of a southern, urban and suburban province. Set in a natural playground, NB's FREDERICTON, is considered to be Atlantic Canada's Riverfront Capital with many cultural and heritage centres! Our city has a population of approx. 85,688. Our climate varies from mild to hot in summer, averaging 23 Celsius with an average rainfall of around 85 mm a month. Major employers are Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments with some industry. Fredericton is home to more than 50% of NB's Info Technology Industries; a Centre for Higher Education, as well as home to TWO Universities and a variety of Training Colleges and Institutes. The Daily Gleaner is the local newspaper. HST of 13% applies to most goods and services. Fredericton is located in the Atlantic Standard Time zone. We also participate in daylight saving time. Fredericton is located on the St. John River, the largest river on the Eastern seaboard. We are 60 to 90 minutes from two borders into the United States, and a 4 hour drive to Halifax, NS, as well as a 3 hour drive to the Confederation Bridge en-route to PEl. Some of the attractions we have in and around Fredericton are the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Kings Landing Historical Settlement, the Boyce Farmers Market, Science East Science Centre and the Historic Garrison District to name a few. COME ENJOY OUR BEAUTIFUL CITY OF FREDERICTON & PROVINCE OF NEWBRUNSWICK!! FWIC UNITY PROJECT Delegates are asked to bring a donation or small gift suitable for an elderly lady. All gifts and donations are to go to the WI Home in Woodstock, a residential home for senior ladies. This is the only WI Home in Canada and possibly the world. These gifts of a $3 to $5 value should be wrapped and will be used for BINGO prizes. Monetary donations of $5 or more will have tax receipts issued upon request if names and addresses are provided. The WI Home receives no government funding and operates entirely on the boarding fees paid by the residents, by gifts and donations from the NBWI membership, by some private donations and through various fund raising events. Delegates are also asked to bring a piece of Sea or Beach Glass to be put into a mosaic being made by FWIC President Marie Kenny.
