The Maritime College of Forest Technology s Department of Continuing Education is pleased to offer our one day Canada Safety Council Snowmobile Safety Training on February 1 st, 2018 snow permitting. Please see the attached announcement for specific course details. The College has a long history of training forest professionals in whatever skills they require to travel the forests and woodlots of their work. Our clients include forest industry, governments, military, families, individual woodlot owners, and land owner groups. Our focus is on developing safe & efficient skills to assist people working and recreating in natural areas through our hands-on training. Rob Neish or Phil Hughes will be the certified instructor for this course. They have delivered this training at MCFT for years and have always been well received by students because of their ability to effectively communicate the subject matter. 2 CANADA SAFETY COUNCIL CERTIFIED SNOWMOBILE SAFETY DATE & TIME: LOCATION: OBJECTIVES: February 1 st, 2018 beginning at 8:30 AM 675 Strickland Lane of the Maritime College of Forest Technology, Fredericton NB (see attached map). This Canada Safety Council Snowmobile Operators Course is designed to help participants Become familiar with the safe operation of a snowmobile. Learn how to perform a safety check and basic maintenance of snowmobiles before starting a trip. Learn safe driving skills, including balance on turns, hills (ascending and descending) travelling over different types of terrain, and traversing of slopes. Learn emergency stopping and turning procedures. CANDIDATES: FORMAT: The Canada Safety Council Safe Snowmobile Operators Course is a nationally recognized course that has no expiration date. It is ideal for employers who want to train their staff to operate snowmobiles safely. It is also an excellent course for new riders who want to develop their abilities and confidence in a controlled environment before hitting the trails. The Snowmobile Operators Course is approximately 8 hours in duration. The course will begin indoors with a short briefing before heading to the MCFT Ancillary Compound to conduct pre-trip inspections and to become familiar with the snowmobiles. Once completed, the class will move outside for the remainder of the day. You should expect to be outside for 6 hours. Please be sure to dress for the weather. Layered clothing is best should weather conditions change during the day. You'll need your own snowmobile in safe and good working order with the proper insurance and licensing. Safety gear required to bring are an approved helmet, goggles, sturdy and warm footwear, leather or riding gloves and warm clothing. Bring your lunch, snacks, and something to drink. FACILITATOR: Rob Neish and Phil Hughes are employed as full time instructors at the Maritime College of Forest Technology. They use a down-to-earth approach in delivery of training, encouraging students to feel comfortable to participate by asking questions. Their teaching goal is to have you master the information and skills of safe snowmobile operation in this course and to attain Canada Safety Council Certification.

3 ENROLMENT: Enrolment will be limited to eight (8) candidates on a first come-first served basis. If the proposed course is full or there is insufficient enrolment to hold the session, you will be notified as to alternate dates. You are required to supply your own snowmobile in mechanically sound working condition and all personal protective gear. (Certified helmet, gloves and sturdy foot wear). MCFT can supply a snowmobile and helmet for an additional fee if you do not own your own. ACCOMMODATIONS: MCFT has a room rental agreement with the Fredericton Inn. Please dial and use discount code MCFT. Costs for standard rooms are: $99 per night single occupancy $119 per night double occupancy TUITION: Tuition for the program including supplies is $ % HST. It is recommended to use your own snowmobile but give you the option to rent one from us at the rate of $ % HST. We also can provide a helmet for an additional $ % HST. CANCELLATION POLICY: In 2017 we saw a significant increase in last minute cancellations and no-shows to our courses. This causes additional costs to MCFT. Being a not-for-profit organization we simply cannot afford this. In order to keep costs and tuition prices as low as possible we have implemented a strict cancellation policy. Please refer to the registration form for details. CANADA SAFETY COUNCIL CERTIFIED SNOWMOBILE SAFETY is equivalent to 7 Continuing Forestry Education Credits.

There is a $ cancellation fee if you cancel within two weeks of course start date. All registrations submitted less than two weeks before course start date are non-refundable.
