With 17 printed newspapers each week, Quest also publishes local news daily online and offers deeper connections with its audience through social media, ensuring readers have access to the news they need, on the platform of their choosing. Our newspapers are as vibrant as the communities they reflect, delivering localised news, and providing readers with a complete lifestyle solution. Each is proud to provide a sense of belonging for the communities they serve, connect readers to their neighbours and help celebrate the diversity around them. Quest s trusted brands across multiple platforms give readers insights into where to shop, work, play and socialise close to home, as well as delivering up-to-date news and sport coverage. Each of the Quest Community News titles is distributed within a carefully defined geographic area that is big enough to give our loyal advertisers the benefit of critical consumer mass, but at the same time is small enough to retain local character and identity. What matters to locals matters to us, which is why we re proud to support community causes, champion small business and community spirit, and advocate for local issues that affect local lives. We keep on the pulse of what s happening so our readers never miss a beat. We support fundraising initiatives and local causes. We celebrate local success on and off the field. With an aim of keeping the community informed, Quest shares important information that can affect the lives and neighbourhoods of our community. This includes the annual tips to be prepared for storm season and magpie swooping danger zones. Street Watch is also more than just a must-read feature each week. Our partnership with Crime Stoppers ensures our readers have the information they need to keep safe and crime-free. We offer the most in-depth coverage of council issues that effect our readers, acting as a voice for our readers to highlight issues with major developments or much-needed infrastructure. In 2016, we held a comprehensive online survey called Shaping Springfield, aimed at giving readers a chance to have their say on the future of their city. The results were published in paper and passed onto relevant bodies. Ongoing support of the Foodbank charity has delivered 230 tonnes of donated food in six years. More than 50 South East Queensland charities have been supported in our papers across the year. Legacy Campaign Quest s Legacy series was a 2016 Community Newspaper of Australia award-winning campaign for the Legacy charity. Through serious illness, injury or death of a loved one, Legacy supports Defence Force families. The ongoing editorial coverage resulted in 40 new Legatees and 50 new volunteers. Forget Me Not Quest s advocacy for Alzheimers Queensland, through the Forget-Me- Not editorial campaign resulted in sign-ups for more than 600 identity bracelets, which far exceeded the target of 300. This campaign was a Finalist at the Community Newspapers of Australia Awards. Quest Community News shines a light on unsung local heroes through campaigns such as Pride of Australia. We also get behind local athletes by supporting grassroots sporting teams through our Local Sports Stars Awards Program as well as ongoing match coverage and the promotion of signon days for clubs. 6

7 COMMITTED TO CREATING STRONGER COMMUNITIES We advocate for issues that matter. Stadium Bring it On! In conjunction with Moreton Bay Regional Council and the Redcliffe Dolphins, the Redcliffe & Bayside Herald launched the Stadium Bring it on! campaign to champion a $12m boutique stadium for Dolphin Oval. As a result of the campaign, local council and the Federal Government committed to fund the majority of the infrastructure for the new stadium. The project offers a significant economic boost to a region with high youth unemployment and struggling small businesses. Flood of Support: The Albert & Logan News provided, updates online, as well as context and solutions for readers as the region was battered by devastating floods in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Debbie. And as the community mopped up, we championed a flood appeal concert that raised much-needed funds to support flood victims. Moreton Rail Link: Pine Rivers Press was one of the papers in the region among a chorus campaigning to build the Moreton Rail Link, which was more than 100 years in the making. The railway line, named the Redcliffe Peninsula Line is now complete and more than 34% of the region s residents are now, for the first time ever, connected to a rail line. Save our Heritage: Concerned that a proposed Coorparoo Neighbourhood Plan from Brisbane City Council would strip the protection for heritage houses, the South East Advertiser provided a vital voice for residents in the region. Pressure from a sustained campaign led Brisbane City Council to rethink the plan. We are proud partners. Quest Community News partners with more than 30 organisations each year. This includes major events such as Redcliffe Festival in the north to the Manly Halloween Street Party in the east, along with community campaigns such as the 4KQ Christmas Lights campaign. We work closely with local Chambers of Commerce and business groups to support small business. In 2017 this included sponsorship of the inaugural Women In Business Awards Australia to highlight the achievements of women and young people in Brisbane. 7

8 Our Readers Families with children under 18 at home Parents keen to stay connected with their community. These readers spend their dual income on childcare, baby goods and clothing, groceries and education. This group is more likely to be established and price-conscious, they most likely have a mortgage and are continually striving to buy or change an existing home to better suit their family. Home owners This group is quite literally invested in their local community. Home owners are more likely to have lived at their current address for at least five years and participate in local leisure, events and entertainment activities. They also love shopping locally and supporting local small businesses. Of course, they re proud of the houses they ve made their homes and they re more likely to have DIY-ed or paid a professional to renovate. When it comes to shopping for furniture and homewares, they re interested in quality and functionality. They re more likely to have children under 18 living at home and spend more each week on the groceries. Baby Boomers/Retirees This group deeply values keeping connected with their community and are passionate about local issues. They are more likely to be grandparents concerned about security and are quality-conscious. They are loyal to their brands, and expect better customer service and value for money. They re more conservative shoppers than the younger age groups, though they are happy to spend on holidays and vehicles. They may not be as tech-savvy, but they still go online on a regular basis. Business Owners The deepest roots of all. Our local business owners live, work, think and breathe their local community. They passionately support their fellow local businesses and consider their local newspaper the voice of their community it s their main source of information about what s going on in their local area. Younger readers with no kids Without the responsibility and expense of kids, our younger readers have a higher disposable income to spend. They are less price-conscious, are early adopters of new technologies and products, seek quality in their purchases, drink and eat out more and use social media and digital platforms to get their info. They shop often and are more likely to be looking to buy a new home, but still love spending money on entertainment, going out and heading overseas. This group is all about their lifestyle. 52 Inserts Acceptable inserts All paper weight specifications are the minimum acceptable. Please see following page for detailed information on acceptable sizes and stock weights. Acceptable folds Single sheet 390mm x 285mm 200mm x 180mm Single fold 390mm x 285mm 200mm x 180mm (180gsm) (135gsm) (100gsm) (80gsm) Unacceptable Folds No single spine. Uneven stack height will cause jamming. Tabloid inserts Four and eight page tabloid products, less than 100 gsm, must be quarter folded. Prior to acceptance tabloid products must be inspected to determine whether a quarter fold is required. Maximum size is 390mm deep x 285mm wide. Card and envelope inserts Cards and envelope inserts should be stacked flat in cartons with no turns. Packing should be used to fill gaps in rows. The weight of the carton should not exceed 15kg. The cartons should then be palletised and strapped as per palletising illustration. Maximum insert thickness The normal acceptable size (pagination) is 48 pages. Acceptance of inserts above this size will require consultation with the Publishing Manager. Use of unsuitable products A product which has been delivered after deadline or does not meet the required specifications may not be inserted. Faulty products will be referred to clients for clearance prior to inserting. Stapled inserts Inserts less than 24 pages should not be stapled; a glued spine is the preferred option. Any insert that is stapled must have the staples firmly attached so they are not able to pull free and jam up the equipment. If staples are used they must not exceed the thickness of the product and be placed perfectly within the fold of the product. Unusual inserts Any card, envelope, perforated insert, stickers, part fold backs, index folds or steps, or other insert material of an unusual nature, will require a dummy sample of the product to be viewed by the Publishing Manager prior to acceptance. Testing of unusual products may be required, a minimum of 500 samples will be required, 6 weeks in advance of intended publication date. Inserts containing metal or sharp objects, such as keys, coins, razor blades etc, will not be accepted. Clients are advised to seek assurance from printers that gloss surfaces will not be sticky or compacted into unmanageable bricks. Excessive slip may affect the insertion or retention of the insert into the paper. INSERTS WITHIN EXTERNALLY PRINTED MAGAZINES Loose inserts Minimum size Maximum size of the insert must be no less than 75% of the height and width of the product which it is being inserted into of the insert must be 20mm smaller than the width (spine to foredge) and 30mm smaller than the length (head to tail) of the product which it is being inserted into Bound inserts Inserts which fall below the above loose insert specification bound-in inserts are the preferred option. Small bound inserts still present issues winding the host product onto disk and consultation with publishing management is required prior to approval. Bound insert specifications and guidelines will need to be coordinated with the commercial printer supplying the host product. Inserting conditions Whilst the specification table allows for some landscape shaped inserts it is preferred that the spine is the longest edge. Some high gloss inserts are difficult to insert and may require approval prior to insertion. Maximum size inserts (390mm x 285mm) run the risk of damage during the inserting and packaging processes. Inserts below the winding capabilities (smaller than A4) will require direct (hopper) feeding into the publication and a surcharge may be applied to cover additional processing costs. No guarantee is given for full coverage of these inserts in the distribution areas. 52
