1 RACQ Red Spot Congestion Survey 2017 Author Public Policy Date November 2017 Issued Date: November 2017 Page: 1 of 6
2 Introduction To enhance the RACQ s active involvement in improving the road network, an online red spot survey was conducted in October 2017 and advertised to motorists through social media channels and media releases in major towns and cities. The survey asked members to voice their concerns and supply details of intersections, sections of road, and railway crossings where they considered delays to be frustrating and appeared to be unnecessary (i.e. a red spot). Members were also asked to supply solutions on how the problem could be alleviated. The main aims of the survey were: To identify locations where motorists are concerned about being unnecessarily delayed; To establish the causes of motorist frustration stemming from these delays; To gauge motorists ideas in respect to improving efficiency and preventing delays from occurring; and To help road authorities prioritise efficiency improvements on Queensland roads. This 2017 survey adds to the growing database of respondent views gathered in previous surveys conducted in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2007 and Issued Date: November 2017 Page: 2 of 6
3 Results RACQ received: 2027 total responses; highlighting 424 congested roads throughout the state Additional comments provided by respondents, by road name and suburb, can be found in the Red Spot Congestion Survey Additional Comments report on the RACQ website. Image 1 shows a concentration of nominations in the south-east Queensland corner, in Cairns and other major centres of Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Wide Bay and Toowoomba.
