PRESIDENTS WAFFLE Here we are once again, another month has passed us by and as usual I don t have much to say but here goes anyway. ULYSSES AGM The AGM is now well and truly over and everyone is heading back to sunny WA. I hope they don t get back this weekend it won t be sunny at all. I haven t heard much about the journey back other than Josef s group which has grown with the addition of Gerry and Pamela are in the north of our state so they won t be long before they get back. The last I heard of Colin and Janet and I guess Wayne and Maryanne are still with them they were meandering back along the south of Australia. It will be good to see them all again and to hear of their experiences along the way. We can start planning ahead to our local AGM and Odyssey now. TROTS NIGHT OUT We have had a look at the costs involved in going to Gloucester Park for a night at the trots and to have a meal at the Beau Rivage it is $69.00 per head. We will check the response at this week s meeting and determine whether this should be pursued. I

guess the downside of the trots is that it is a Friday night and that could be difficult for some of those who work. If we go ahead we are planning to do this on the 21 st June CHRISTMAS IN JULY We are finalising a few venues as I write this but nothing has been finalised as yet. Hope fully we will have something to present on Thursday night. If not we will furnish details on the website as soon as something is finalised. Apologies for the late decision on this. DWELLINGUP TRAIN RIDE AND DINNER We are planning to do this on August 24 th and will need to book soon. As previously stated it is quite expensive but by all accounts extremely enjoyable so if you are keen just let us know so that when we book you don t miss out. Links to this are on the website. AGM Again as you have been made aware previously if you want to join the Committee for next year your nominations need to be in at this week s meeting. Forms are available on the website. Don t be shy lets have some competition for positions for a change. ODYSSEY As mentioned above we should all be looking ahead to this year s Odyssey which will be in Merredin. One thing we have rarely done is to do a skit, most of the other groups do but Armadale, well what can I say. If you want to have a bit of fun, make a fool of yourself or do something slightly serious it doesn t matter get behind our group and support Perths efforts in putting this weekend on. That s it for now and I will leave you with this thought for your next Sunday Ride. After marking a corner don t roar off and try to catch everyone up just take it easy and keep an eye on tail end charlie in your mirrors, he is making sure that everyone is looked after and not being left stranded in the event of a breakdown or an accident so let s look after him or her at the same time. Thanks for your support. Alan 6

Birthdays in May are: Wayne Eacott, Tony Fareso,Mark Johnstone, Glenn Sargeson, John Wilson RIDE PROTOCOL This is not intended to be a set of rules but just some guidelines and advice to assist everyone on our rides. In no way should any of the comments below be taken as instructions or directives. As you are all aware we are a social group enjoying each other s company in a way that enables us to ride our motorbikes with like minded people. Read the following and if you don t like something I have written or you think I should have explained something better just let me know and we can always change things around, nothing is set in stone. 1. When arriving at the meeting point, be sociable and if you see someone you don t know introduce yourself and if they happen to be new to the group let them know who the senior members of the committee are so they can be made welcome and be made aware of what happens on our rides. 2. Always have a full fuel tank at the start. If you have a small tank let the ride leader know when the ride is announced if you feel you might need an early fuel stop as some of our rides can be quite long. Make sure that you are aware who the ride leader is and also who Tail End Charlie (TEC) is. 3. Corner marking is always explained at the start of a ride but it is important that every corner is marked so if you see someone ride by a point that should be marked, just do it yourself. It is far more important that we don t lose someone that worrying about what someone may not have done correctly. Another point with corner marking is that we have a couple of three wheelers in our group and they can t always mark a corner safely so again just take over and they will do the next corner that is safe for them to do so.

4. At morning tea or lunch use a little common sense and be aware of what is happening around you. We have had large groups that couldn t share the same café and it makes it very important that we don t leave someone behind so make sure that you know when and where the group will be leaving from. Be ready to leave when the group is, don t leave it until that last minute for a toilet break or a second cup of tea. One other thing on meal breaks is if you are going to leave the ride early please let the ride leader and Tail End Charlie know so they aren t looking for someone who has left the group. 5. Quite often the group splits up after lunch and make their way home individually, please make sure that anyone new to the group or who may be a little unsure of the best way home is looked after and guided to a point where they are comfortable to proceed on their own 6. New riders in some cases would also appreciate someone being a self appointed ride buddy for their first ride or two to show them the ropes and guide them through their first ride or two. You could even make a good friend out of being helpful. 7. Be supportive and non confrontational, the reason I mention this stems from a ride where I messed up on corner marking and at morning tea the ride leader was attacked by one of our group when the ride leader wasn t even aware of what had happened. In this case I was totally at fault as I had left the corner before Tail End Charlie had arrived, it is always best to find out the facts before discussing an issue with someone, and if it does need to be discussed at least be adult about it and don t spoil anyone s day. That s it for now, thanks for listening and I know it s a bit boring for you who have been around a while but if a few words make life easier for new members of our group then it will all be worthwhile. Enjoy your rides. Alan Hello all Western Australian Ulysses Branches Preparation for the 2013 Western Australian Odyssey is under way and preliminary information is available at the WA Odyssey website: The Odyssey in 2013 will be in Merredin, from Friday 27 th September to Monday 30 th September, the Queen s Birthday long weekend. 15 AGM EVENT 2014 ALICE SPRINGS It is with great pleasure and pride, to the CeNTral Deserts Branch, that we were given the honour to host the National Annual General Meeting and Event of the Ulysses Club, in Alice Springs - 12th to 18th May CeNTral Australia engenders in the mind of most Australians, an image of the "Real Outback". It is vast, remote and spectacularly beautiful. Red is the predominant colour in its palette, but mauves, pinks, the many shades of blue, soft greys and subdued greens soften the harsh beauty of the landscape. Situated in the heart of Australia s Red centre is its core, the legendary town of Alice Springs. "The Alice" is nestled at the foot of the majestic MacDonnell Ranges that traverse east and west through the heart of Australia, and is home to some 28,000 Territorians. First classs major highways, modern transport, rail services three times a week and daily air and coach services to and from capital cities and major regional centres removes the sense of isolation. A must go destination for all Australians. Alice Springs is proving to be a big draw card for domestic and international audiences, ensuring high motivation amongst delegates to attend, as Australians and non-australians start to look for a different kind of experience. Alice Springs is home to the world famous Tattersall s Finke Desert Race. For 3 days approximately 12,000 people are catered for by the town facilities and some camp beside the racetrack, sleeping under the stars, all having a great time. Another major event catered for is the Masters Games held every two years which has in excess of 4,500 people which the majority are catered for in a hard bed format. The town also hosts all sorts of conferences and events of different sizes every year. Alice Springs has been a traditional meeting place for tens of thousands of years for people of common interests to get together. The CeNTral Deserts Branch feel that in keeping with tradition, it is also a fantastic place to have our mates get together for the 2014 AGM, and as an interesting note 2014 will be the 20th anniversary of when our mates got together last time for an AGM in the heart of Australia. Traveling to the Red centre is an opportunity to embark on a journey of self- discovery, to discard the everyday hassles, reawaken your senses, warm the heart and enrich the spirit, to get centred. The Branch Closest to Every Beach in Australia

It's the second busiest airport in Regional NSW, with more than 250,000 passengers passing through the terminal each year and over 200 flights a week in and out of the city. Services to Sydney are provided by Qantaslink, Regional Express and Virgin Blue Airlines. Regional Express flies daily to Melbourne and Brindabella Airlines flies to Canberra every day except Saturday. Charter services are also available. General and security car parking is provided adjacent to the terminal building. 18

Launceston AGM 2016 April 19, 2013 Congratulations to Launcestonn Branch Tamar Tourers for winning the bid to host the Ulysses AGM 2016 event.
