Upcoming Rides and Events Our annual summer camping weekend continues to be successful and we have decided to run it again this summer. Our chosen site is once again Lagoon s Beach (via St Marys & Elephant Pass), on the east coast. It is a good clean & shaded, free camping site on the beach, with a modern long drop toilet on site. Offering surf fishing, peace & quiet, long beach walks or bush walks (Just getting away from it all.) and various dirt roads nearby for some off road riding too. The dates this summer are; overnight on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st of February 2015, return home on the Sunday. We (Tamar Tourers) will be arriving just before lunch on the Friday, so come for one or two nights, whatever you can. BYO all cooking equipment, food, drinks and water. I will bring a portable shower tent with me for those who feel the need and there is a modern, clean long drop toilet on site, but that s all. To get to the site; if travelling via St Marys, turn left at the eastern end of Elephant pass, travel north for about 2.3km, and enter the camp ground by the SECOND entrance (about 100 metres past the first entrance). We intend to camp in a big area somewhere near the new corrugated steel, long drop toilet. Look out for our signage. The weekend is used by a lot of members as a test run for their gear, before heading off to the national AGM and this idea seems to work well. Last year we had a great time around the night time camp fire talking and cooking marshmallows, so come along and have some fun with us. Weather you tie a tent on the bike or bring the caravan, everyone is welcome to join in. I hope you can spread the word amongst our members please, as I am sure some camping enthusiasts would like to attend. More info will follow. Please contact me if there are any questions. Mike Meyman Tamar Tourers Branch Committee Member or me at mmeyman@iinet.net.au The Ulysses Club Inc. Tamar Tourers Branch will be returning to Myrtle Park for the 2014 Christmas Get-Together Sunday December 14 th Come along & enjoy a great day. Catch up with old & new friends. Site: Myrtle Park is on the A3, Tasman Hwy 38km from Launceston. Enter the park and veer to the left side near the Hall. We will be located near the shelter. It s a regional park, situated on the St Patricks River and a great place for the family gathering/camping trip. It has many recreational features including a tennis court, playground and cricket pitch. Time: Make your own way to Myrtle Park for 12 noon start. What to Bring: BYO BBQ food, drinks, chairs & a smile. (BBQs are on site) Who can attend: All current, past & future members, friends, children & grandchildren are welcome. There will be raffles on the day with some great prizes. Co-ordinator: Martin Le Fevre Tamar Tourers Tidings November 2014 Page 2

To all Tasmanian Ulyssians attending the Ulysses AGM Event It s on again. We are having a stand at Wodonga at the 2015 AGM Event March This time we are not alone, as TT Line (Fiona Sturman) and Launceston City Council (Eammon Seddonn, Angie Hart) will be joining us and helping members arrange Sprit of Tasmania and accommodation bookings for the 2016 AGM in Launceston and answering any questions we can't. Those of us on the AGM Event 2016 Committee will be shadowing their Wodonga counterparts in 2015 to help us with our Event in So we will need everyone who helped at Alice Springs to please step up again to help promote our Event. Use your promo shirts from last year, if you have them please. It should be easier this time with only one bag to hand out and no survey to worry about. Shifts should be no more than 2 hours at a time and once per day and hopefully no more than twice in the week. Please let us know when you are available to help on the stand and also pass on the contact details of other Tassie members going to Wodonga who can help as well. Contact the 2016 AGM Event secretary by on 2016agmeventsecretary@gmail.com to advise your availability. Tim Stevenson Interim Event Secretary For all those travelling to Wodonga for the AGM Event, don t forget your Tamar Tourers polo shirt If you do not have one, they can be ordered from the Tasmanian Clothing Company at 202 Wellington St Launceston. Phone The new Tamar Tourers Cloth Patches They are available from the secretary for $10 Get your order in NOW Tamar Tourers Tidings November 2014 Page 5

Launceston 2016 AGM Event December 2014 Bulletin The building of our 2016 website is now progressing and I can now see the end of the tunnel. If it s not live by the time you read this, it s not too far away. Keep an eye on the main Ulysses website. The familiarisation trip on the Spirit of Tasmania has been and gone. Ulysses Members from South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and the A.C.T. came here at the end of November for a weekend and it could be only be described as a huge success. The weekend was packed full of eating, drinking, visits to attractions and facilities, viewing of our site and a bit more eating and drinking. All sponsored by the Spirit of Tasmania. Those who came, although they had been here before, all said they saw things they had never seen before and everyone were amazed at just how much you can see and do in such a short distance. They also felt sure they had been here for much more than 2 days. So, everyone was most impressed and I am sure they will all go back to their Branches and tell everyone what a great place we have here. Fiona, our host from the Spirit, will also now commence her visits back to all these, and surrounding Branches, to push for Members to travel to Tasmania on the Spirit in Prior to meeting everyone in Melbourne for the trip over, I spent 2 days in Wodonga with Blue & Heather Knowles (2015 Event Director & Secretary). While there I looked around their site, we swapped some thoughts and ideas, and I sat in on one of their Committee meetings. I also attended a local Chamber of Commerce meeting with Blue where I saw how much the local Council is really, really behind the Event there in March next year. They can t do enough to help. All in all it was well worth the trip and was an excellent promotion of the AGM Event here in Only 15 short months away. Hoecker quotes etc are still being chased up by Treasurer Tim Stevenson. We have one more to come in and we have eliminated two of the five we already had as they were extremely expensive. After we view what Wodonga are using and how they do it, we will be able to make a more clear decision on which way we head. Our display at this year s Launceston Show was a moderate success. We didn t attract any media coverage this time but hopefully we did attract a couple of new members. We all know the Launceston show is not what it used to be and had limited traders that would suit a Ulysses AGM Event. We did collect some names though and will follow up next year. We may also investigate an alternative venue other than the Show for a display next year. We have visited the Deloraine Craft Market in early November, and spoke to a lot of promising local traders who would be suitable for a Ulysses Event. The Market is run by the local Rotary Club and I also introduced myself to the Market Director and spoke to her about our possible usage of their own homemade, indoor trader s partitions. More discussions will follow. New Member, Brian Mathieson, has joined our team and will be working alongside Shaun Lennard in the field of O H & S, first aid & training. Welcome aboard Brian. Greg Douglas has signed on as our communications coordinator. Well done Greg. Tamar Tourers Tidings November 2014 Page 6

Launceston 2016 AGM Event November 2014 Bulletin (continued) Wodonga AGM Event 23 rd 29 th March 2015 I encourage everyone who is going to the Wodonga event to attend the official dinners on the Friday and Saturday nights. If you have never been to one of these dinners, they are a real lot of fun, and this year s themes will surely produce some spectacular sights. You will also get a bit more of an idea of what the Event is all about and what we will need to achieve for the Event here the following year. Even if you have already registered for the Event and not included the dinners, you can still add them to your registration. Come and enjoy. We are about to start finalising our display and roster for Wodonga. We have booked 3 3m x 3m indoor sites. Spirit of Tasmania and Launceston Travel & Information Centre (LCC) have confirmed their attendance, each taking up one of the 3 sites. We will concentrate our area within the site on the Event area, Check-in and rides etc. We need a few more volunteers please to help us on our 2016 display stand. It s not hard work and you meet a lot of interesting people. A roster will be set up in accordance with your available times, so please make yourself available for at least a couple of hours in Wodonga. Send an to Tim at 2016agmeventsecretary@gmail.com and he will be in contact with you. If you weren t at Alice, you will see for yourself how excited everyone is about coming to Tassie in I hope I have covered most things that have happened lately but if any one has any questions at all, about anything, please give me a call or drop me an . Lastly, I hope everyone has a great Christmas with family & friends. Stay safe. Tamar Tourers Branch PO Box 752, Kings Meadows TAS 7249 Please note that all nominations must be in writing and need to be signed by the proposer, seconder and the nominee who must all be financial members of Ulysses Club Inc The branch AGM nomination form is on the website ( for down loading or from the President John Our Branch has been experiencing a transition in recent years with many of the older, loyal members who have served long terms as office bearers and on committee stepping away. Unfortunately there has not been the expected uptake by younger Ulyssians to serve the Branch Please give serious consideration to stepping up and nominating for positions on our branch committee. With the 2016 AGM in Launceston looming we need lots of active members on our committee, lots of volunteers to step up and offer their expertise no matter how big or small. It s the old adage of many hands make light work. Elsewhere in our newsletter AGM Director Mike will have outlined where more co-ordinators are required and where down the line volunteers are desperately needed. Tamar Tourers Tidings November 2014 Page 8

At an AGM Event we are all Volunteers, but some Volunteers have different names.. What is the difference? General Volunteers: A general volunteer registers their name to work one or more shifts during the AGM Event. They may volunteer to work within any of approximately 30 (thirty) portfolios. Team Members: A team member works with their Portfolio Coordinator before, during and after the AGM Event to help achieve the tasks listed for a specific portfolio. Portfolio Coordinators: A Portfolio Coordinator leads a team before, during and after the AGM Event to achieve the tasks listed for their portfolio. Coordinators report to an Event Manager. Event Managers: An Event Manager provides guidance and leadership before, during and after the event to develop a group of portfolios in order that their Coordinators are free to effectively manage & maintain their individual portfolios. Event Director: An Event Director works before, during and after the AGM Event to develop and plan the strategies necessary for all volunteers to work together to achieve a common goal; A great AGM Event to be enjoyed by all the members of the Ulysses Club, including the volunteers who make it happen! I would just like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and may 2015 be successful year for all. Enjoy and make the most of being with family and those closest to you because you just don t what is waiting around the corner. Make the time and effort to pop in and say hello instead of making excuses, you may not realise how much they need you. A 5 minute visit can be enough to make someone smile. See you in 2105 Amanda #42663 Dinner Meeting Venue Gunners Arms Hotel Lawrence St, Launceston (near Becks the old Gunns shop) Last Thursday of the month 6.00 for 6.30pm The good value menu varies from time to time and currently consists of Entrees, Pizzas, Soups, Dishes from the East, Steak Sandwiches, Fish, Grilled meals, Snacks and of course Desserts.
