The prepaid Chinese cell-phone cards are sold in many small shops around Fudan (e.g. China mobile shop on the pedestrian street). Remember that you pay for both incoming and outgoing calls. For cheap international phone calls you can use the IP cards ( 国际 IP 卡 ) that are sold in most small shops around the university. TAXI Taxi in Shanghai is relatively cheap. Starting price is RMB 14 (before otherwise it would be 18) which will take you 3 km before the meter runs. From Fudan to Shanghai center app: RMB 60. From Pudong Airport to Fudan it usually takes around 45 minutes and 200 RMB. Mobile app 滴滴打车 (Di Di Da Che) is a good method to order a taxi if you cannot find one by the roadside. Uber is also available in Shanghai. 1

Daqiaowuxian (Bridge Line 5): to Pudong (terminal: Zhangjiang High-tech Park). Walk along Guoding Rd. until you pass the New Oriental School. Here you will see the bus. Airport Shuttle Bus Line 4: to Pudong Airport. You can take a taxi to Hongkou Football Stadium (in front of the entrance of the Children Park jn Luxun Park, about 12 yuan), and then you will find the bus. SHOPPING Xu Jia Hui 徐家汇 Busy shopping area with many department stores. Best place for buying cameras, MP3-players, computers etc. Metro 1 to Xu Jia Hui station Fabric Market 东门路轻纺面料市场东门路路, 靠近中山东二路 Buy silk, fur or linen (20 to 60 yuan) and have your favorite clothes made by one of the tailors in Shanghai's biggest fabric market. Dong Tai Road Antique Market 东台路古商品市场 Dong Tai Road (Near Xizang Road) 东台路, 靠近西藏路 In this outdoor market you find everything from old propaganda posters to porcelain and antique furniture. Be sure to bargain at least half the starting price. Yu Garden Bazaar 豫园小商品市场 Between Fuyou Lu, Dongtai Lu och Henan Lu 豫园小商品市场, 福佑路 东台路与河南路之间 Buy porcelain, calligraphy, jade, tea and silk in this outdoor bazaar, surrounded by the beautiful, and yes, very touristy Yu Garden. On the Old Street, Lao Jie (along Fangbang Zhong Lu) you find antiques of various quality. 5

6 Nanjing Xi Lu Market 南京西路 580 号 No. 580 Nanjing West Road Within walking distance from People s Square. Has everything from jackets to bags, suitcases and necklaces etc. Has replaced the former fake-market Xiang Yang market. Market on Pudong 地铁 2 号线, 上海科技馆站 This market also showed up after the removal of the Xiang Yang market. It is situated at the metro station called Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. Line 2, direction Zhang Jiang. Qi Pu Lu-market 七浦路 133 号 No. 133 Qi Pu Road This market is comprised of four massive buildings with endless small stores and booths. It is within walking distance from the pedestrian part of Nanjing Road. SIGHTSEEING The Bund: 外滩 People s square: 人民广场 Former Residence of Sun Yatsen: 孙中山故居 No. 7 Xiangshan Lu 香山路 7 号 Jade Buddha Temple 玉佛寺 No.170 An Yuan Road 安远路 170 号 Opening hours:8:00-17:00 Jing'an Temple 静安寺 1686 Nanjing Xi Lu, by Huashan Lu. 南京西路 1686 号 ( 近华山路 ) Always busy, this small, gaudily decorated temple has the longest history of any shrine in Shanghai. Built in 247, it was almost destroyed in 1851, but is now fully renovated. In the 1930s it was Shanghai's richest Buddhist monastery, presided over by Abbot Khi Vehdu, known for his Russian bodyguard and for giving each of his seven concubines a car and a house. Open daily, 9 am to 5 pm. Jin Mao Tower 金茂大厦 Jin Mao Dasha, 88 Shi Ji Da Dao, Pudong. 浦东世纪大道 88 号金茂大厦 The Jin Mao Tower is Shanghai's most spectacular building, visible from almost everywhere in the city. Its primary function is as an office block, but the Grand Hyatt rents the space from the 54th to the 87th floors. The easiest way to get a peek at the stunning view is to have a coffee or a drink in one of the hotel's cafes, bars and restaurants. Longhua Temple 龙华寺 2853 Longhua Lu. 龙华路 2853 号 Close to the Huangpu River is Shanghai's oldest and largest monastery. It is built in Song dynasty style and dates from the 10th century. Pay 10 yuan to strike the 6,500 kilogram bell three times, supposed to give good luck. Yu Garden 豫园 Between Fuyou Lu, Fangbang Lu and Henan Lu. 福佑路 方浜路 河南路之间 At the northeast end of the old Chinese city, Yuyuan Garden is one of Shanghai's premier sights. Built by the Pan family (wealthy Ming Dynasty officials) in 1559, the garden wasn't finished until 18 years later. Also worth a visit is the beautiful Huxinting Tea House, which is surrounded by a zig-zag causeway to thwart evil spirits. Xin Tiandi 新天地 South Huang Pi Road and Tai Cang Road 位于黄陂南路 太仓路交界处 Oriental Pearl TV Tower 东方明珠电视塔 Pudong Lujiazui Finance & Trade Zone 浦东陆家嘴金融贸易区 Price: 50RMB to have an overview of the city on the 2nd ball of the tower (height: 263m), 100RMB to the top of the tower (3rd ball, height: 350m) MUSEUMS Shanghai Museum: 上海博物馆 201, Renmin Avenue 人民大道 201 号 ( 人民广场附近 ) The museum s 120,000 artifacts include traditional calligraphy, paintings, sculptures, coins, clothes and furniture. Price: 20 RMB per person, and students can get some discounts. Opening hours: 9:00-17:00 daily year around, no admission since 16:00. Open 9 am to 5 pm, last ticket sold at 4 pm. Price: 20 RMB Duolun Museum of Modern Art 多伦当代美术馆 No.27 Duo Lun Road, 多伦路 27 号 In the antique street of Duolun Lu, the impressive seven-storey Doland Modern Art Museum is the first state owned museum devoted solely to modern art in China. Run by the culture bureau of Hongkou District it opened in 2003 and has developed into one of Shanghai's most active cultural institutions, regularly hosting art exhibitions and music events. Tel: Open Time: 9:00-17:00 Shanghai Urban Planning Centre 上海城市规划馆 100 Renmin Dadao, by Xizang Lu 人民大道 100 号 ( 近西藏路 ) Tel: One of the space ship-looking buildings in People's Square is the City Planning Centre. Check out what the city will look like in ten years (a model of the future city is displayed in one of the exhibitions). The place also holds occasional art exhibitions. GALLERIES ShanghART Warehouse Bldg 16, 50 Moganshan Lu. Tel , 香格纳画廊仓库, 莫干山路 50 号 16 号楼 50 Moganshan Lu is an area of printing factories close to Suzhou Creek that has turned into a Shanghai s own meatpacking district, with galleries, design and art studios, and one little café. Hang out with well-known contemporary Chinese artists, or stroll around the industrial area and check out the exhibitions in Shanghart Warehouse (building 16), H Space (next door), Eastlink (building 7) and Art Scene China (building 5). NICE WALKS French Concession Walk Have a stroll in the heart of the leafy French Concession. Start out by visiting the former residence of the founder of the Nationalist Party, Dr Sun Yatsen and his wife Madame Song Ching Ling at 7 Xiangshan Road( 孙中山故居, 香山路 7 号 ). Just around the corner is the former residence of Zhou Enlai, the Chinese communist leader, at 73 Sinan Lu ( 思南路 73 号 ). Continue along Sinan Lu until you come to Gaolan Lu and the entrance of beautiful Fuxing Park( 复兴公园 ), the former French park that is now the home of several nightclubs and a fishing pond. Nanjing Lu Start from the Bund and walk down the shopping street of Nanjing Lu. Follow the pedestrian street until you come to People's Square. Here you can enjoy Beijing Opera at Yifu Theatre( 逸夫舞台 ) (1.30 pm every Sunday), have a stroll in the Shanghai Museum or watch the kites in the park. The Bund and Pudong North of Chenyi Square by Zhongshan Lu. Walk under the Huangpu River through this surreal sightseeing tunnel. Stretching from the Bund to the Oriental TV Pearl Tower, the 645-meter tunnel is filled with tourists and a bizarre light show. On the other side of the river you can join Shanghai's young trendy crowd at Red Dot Café, visit Asia's biggest mall or get a peak at the city from the tacky TV tower Shanghai Old Millfun (1933 老场坊 ) Old Millfun which is an old abbatoir (slaughtery) newly renovated and turned into an art space and small boutiques.
