4 Required Documents to Enter China: Passport: a valid passport that will not expire before December 1 st, 2018 Chinese Visa: if you are not a citizen of China, Taiwan, or Hong Kong, you should submit the application for the Tourist (L) Visa between March 1, 2018 and April 15, A tourist visa application requires the following documentation: 1. Passport with at least six months of remaining validity and blank visa pages. 2. Visa Application Form, click here, completed with a passport-size photo and fee. 3. Round-trip flight tickets to China. 4. Hotel reservations with detailed itinerary in China. If you book the accommodation service, Chi staff will the hotel reservation letter to you by Feb 28 th, If you are a USA citizen, it is suggested that you apply for a 10-year multiple entry visa. Compared to applying for a one year visa: The requirements are the same, except a passport with at least twelve months of remaining validity is required. The application fee is the same. If you are aware of any additional trips to China in the next 10 years, this may save you time and money in the future. You can apply for the visa directly from the Chinese embassy, consulates in person. (China currently maintains one Embassy in Washington D.C., but also maintains 5 consulates-general in the following U.S. cities: New York, NY; Chicago, IL; San Francisco, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Houston, TX.) Or you can use a visa/travel service agent to help you get the visa if you don t want to travel to the consulates. It takes about seven business days for an application to be processed. In Chinese, it is called the Renmenbi, meaning People s Money. Denominations come in 100, 50, 10, 5 and 1 Yuan. Please consider exchanging currency (USD for CNY) at the airport or at a bank in Beijing and/or Guangzhou for the best exchange rate. The exchange rate (USD:CNY) is around 1:6.5, but there will be a transaction fee of about 3-5%. Weather and Clothes: Late spring/early summer weather in Beijing and Guangzhou is hot and rainy and the average low and high temperature will be 24 C (76 F) and 30 C (86 F), respectively. Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes are a must. Generally, pack lightly and bring casual, summer clothes such as skirts, shorts, and T-shirts. Dress for comfort rather than for style; wash-and-wear clothing is preferable. Laundry services are available in all hotels. Landry services are NOT included in the registration fee. Food and Drink: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be prepared typical to the local cuisine of Guangzhou. Meals will be served family style on round tables, accommodating 8-10 people each. Tap water is not drinkable in China, and bottled water is recommended. Bottles of water can be purchased for $0.25 to $0.75 each. Try to find a brand name! All hotel rooms are supplied with a thermos of boiled water to drink or make tea with. Health Requirements and Immunization: Travelers are advised to check with their doctors before visiting China. NO immunizations are required, but these 5 are recommended, if not obtained already: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, Japanese encephalitis, rabies, and typhoid and polio.

6 Language: Mandarin is spoken throughout China, but English is becoming increasingly popular. However, the majority of people in Guangzhou and Beijing do not speak English. In preparation, be sure to have addresses written in Chinese and English. That being said, younger people will tend to have basic knowledge of English. Safety for Foreigners Traveling in China: China is very safe for foreigners to visit. Vendors at sightseeing locations may be persistent but are usually polite. Just ignore them if you don t want to buy anything. If you travel with a guide, just follow the guide and his or her direction. If you explore alone, be alert and use common sense. Contacting America from China: You can contact your cell phone company to enable mobile service in China. Most US cell phones will work in China. You can contact your cell phone company to enable mobile service in China. Please ask them their international plan about voice and data. By using their international plan, you can save a lot of money if you are planning to use your cell phone in China. However, it may cost you $2/min.
