2 15-20 CI participants will visit China for two weeks from November 24-December An overview of the program is as follows: Day 1 Day 2-3 Day 4 Day 5-11 Day 12 Day 13 Depart Australia for China Sightseeing in Beijing Transfer from Beijing to Chinese language program and sightseeing in Transfer from to Shanghai Sightseeing in Shanghai and depart for Melbourne. The 2018 Confucius Institute Emerging Leaders China Study Tour offers a fantastic opportunity for students and young professionals to learn about Chinese language and culture and the modern Chinese economy through a University language short-course and business visits. The tour includes a number of business visits, briefings and cultural activities. The tour includes visits to Beijing, the political centre of China,, China s ancient capital and place of one of China s Top 5 Universities ( University) and Shanghai, the international financial and commercial centre of China. This 13 day tour is subsidised by Confucius Institute Headquarters, offering a cost-effective option for participants. This tour is suitable for those who would like to see the rapid evolution of China s economy first hand through a number of site visits and an intensive Chinese language study component at the top ranked institute for teaching Chinese as a foreign language in China at University. The tour is open to any students or young professionals that are non-chinese nationals. You do not need to be a student of the University of Melbourne or have studied Chinese previously to join this tour. Learning objectives Participants will: Learn Chinese at one of the top ranked Universities in China ( University) Participate in a number of cultural activities, workshops and lectures at University Learn about modern Chinese society, cultural etiquette and history Appreciate China s modern economy through a number of site visits to leading Australian and Chinese enterprises Program elements 7 day study component at University Four workshops covering various aspects of Chinese culture (eg. calligraphy, taichi, food etc.) Business visits to Chinese Enterprises Business visits to Australian/Victorian companies operating in China Cultural excursions 2

3 This two-week tour is subsidised by Confucius Institute Headquarters, offering a cost-effective option for participants. Total cost of the program is $2,800 (incl. GST). Meet your fellow participants over a game of Chinese Trivia Breakfast, lunch and dinner included 26 Nov Monday Beijing Morning: Visit Great Wall Afternoon: Visit the Office of the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) Headquarters. Learn about the latest developments in Chinese pedagogy from the principle body for overseas Chinese Education Evening: Group dinner. Over dinner, enjoy a cultural literacy workshop combined with Chinese language lesson and getting to know your fellow travellers Breakfast, lunch and dinner included 27 Nov Tuesday Beijing/Na njing Morning: Checkout of the hotel. Visit to the Australian Embassy to discuss the Australia-China relationship with DFAT/Austrade Officials. Visit a local Chinese enterprise (HNA, Breadtrip, etc.) to understand the business landscape in China 4

6 Saturday Morning: Cultural exploration - City wall and Xuanwu Lake Park Afternoon: Cultural exploration - The Zhonghua Gate Castle, Confucius Temple Evening: After having supper ( local food) have stroll around the streets of 2 Dec Sunday Morning: Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum Scenic Area; Ming Tomb and Linggu Monastery Afternoon: Museum.
