2 NORFOL RAMBLERS will cease to function in March 2007 unless volunteers come forward to fill the posts of Area Secretary and Area Treasurer. If either these posts remain unfilled at the next AGM we will be unable to continue to function effectively. At the last AGM, when Eleanor Martin resigned as Secretary after several years in office no one volunteered to take her place. Derek Goddard stepped in as Acting Secretary, just to hold things together, but on the strict understanding that it would be for no longer than one year. Gillian ent agreed to be Acting Minutes Secretary on the same basis this post had been vacant for several years, but provides very useful support for the Secretary, so we are looking for someone to fill that vacancy as well. In March Sheila Smith will resign as Area Treasurer after twenty years in office and members have been warned over the last two or three years that this will happen as yet no one has shown any interest in taking her place. Sheila thinks twenty years is long enough and has no intention whatsoever of changing her mind, she is willing, however, to continue to look after publication sales including all the sales records, bankings, stock control, credit control, etc., together with an annual account suitable for integration into the Area s annual accounts, and this will relieve the new Treasurer of responsibility for a large proportion of the Area s total transactions. Our Executive Committee meets quarterly, so with the AGM there are five meetings a year. These meetings provide a focus for the work of both officers, but of course the work goes on between times. If you have administrative or basic accounting skills and think you could help please to talk to Derek ( ) or Sheila ( ). We are looking for someone who is not already on the Executive Committee, it does include able and committed people already committed to other aspects of the Area s work we need someone new! If no one volunteers the Area as you know it will disappear. 2 31

Then, make sure you do it right! Broadband Internet access is a fantastic facility, making the Internet much more usable, and with capped packages available, often little more expensive than dialup Internet access. However an effective and secure broadband installation requires a little planning prior to installation to make sure that things will work optimally. Inter-Logic can help you to plan your broadband install including the selection of services, hardware, anti-virus, anti-spyware, parental control etc. If you are thinking about Broadband, contact Inter-Logic first! Tel: Mobile: Fax: richard@inter-logic.co.uk The following paragraph relates to all walks advertised in this guide: All sporting and leisure activities have inherent hazards associated with them and rambling is no exception. In spite of the safety of members always being the paramount concern, accidents will occasionally occur. It is important, therefore, that when entering into the activity, each member appreciates that they have a responsibility to identify the hazards associated with the activity and take all reasonable steps to eliminate or minimise the potential for an accident to arise. 29

For anyone who doesn t know what this is about, it is a challenge to walk every footpath in a single OS map grid and note any problems, before recording the square as completed via the challenge website. On the map below, I have attempted to recolor the completed squares as white, in a hope that this will be sufficiently clear when printed. The aim, therefore, is to cover all of Norfolk in white, so we have quite a way to go yet.
