3 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Promotion The Cubs Awaken Promoting Day Camp Day Camp provides an excellent Program and Value. o Fun, Fun, and more Fun! o Meeting other Scouts: Making Friends o Learning Outdoor Skills o Crafts o Sports o Fishing o Water Fun o Special Guests o Advancement Educate the packs on ways to Deliver the Promise. Provide a Summertime Pack Award opportunity. We want to encourage each pack to be active when school is out for the summer, by doing one activity per month in June, July, and August. They can earn this award. Provide the Highlight of the year for your Cub Scouts and Webelos. We have available placemats for your Packs to use at Blue and Golds. (Placemats must be ordered 1 week in advance of the date you need them.) Ensure every pack conducts a Pack Day Camp Kick-off for their Scouts and parents (early 2017). o Kids love the outdoors, 75% of Scouting is outing. o Scouts who attend Day Camp are more likely to stay in Scouting. o Parents and leaders who understand how Day Camp enhances their program will be more committed to attend Day Camp. Bring 5 boys to day camp and get the 6 Scout free when you provide a 5-day den walker all week! (Registrations all must be submitted together) Girl Scouts are welcome to join us! Page 3

4 LINCOLN HERITAGE COUNCIL BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA 2017 Day Camp Coordinator Responsibilities Obtain all information for Summer Camp through your District Program Chair or Scout office. Schedule and organize your pack s Day Camp promotion presentation for all families. Plan and schedule your pack s Day Camp dates. Organize unit leadership for Day Camp. (Remember that you will need a minimum of two adults, and a one to ten ratio of leaders to Scouts. Tiger (1 st grade) Parents will be required to attend with your Scout.) Ensure health forms, payments, and camp rosters are turned in to the Council Scout office on time. Pack Camp Coordinator Preparation Plan When A Suggested Plan Your Checklist November Pick up camp promotion presentation packet at Roundtable December Promotion Packet or Leaders Guide. Schedule camp promotion for December, January or February pack meeting and give a camp promotion presentation at the pack meeting. Include: Show camp promotional DVD Distribute camp flyers to Scouts Distribute registration forms to parents which includes the Class A & B Annual Health & Medical Record. NO OTHER HEALTH FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED. January Share pack camp dates, leaders, fees, & camp stories Collect camp sign-up forms Make available Campership applications where needed Camp registration begins Turn in ALL applications forms for Day Camp to Scout office with registration fees First come first served basis on availability of dates Sessions will close when maximum number of Scouts is reached Confirm camp attendance of Scouts who missed Pack Meeting March Finalize daily camp leaders and transportation plans May Final chance for Early Bird Discount due to Council Office. ALL FEES PAID AFTER MAY 5 will be charged the full registration price. All fees, applications and health forms must be turned in at least 2 weeks prior to your camp session. 6 DEN WALKER CONCEPT Every Cub Scout Pack is encouraged to provide Den Walkers and help provide leadership for Day Camp. Here is a description of the Den Walker s roles: Attendance is an important part of Camp. Not only is there a check-in at the beginning of the Camp program as well as check-out, there is also den attendance to be taken. Head counts and buddy checks should be made often, especially when moving onto a new location for the next activity. All leaders will set up a buddy system for their dens, restroom visits included. NO BOY MAY LEAVE YOUR SITE WITHOUT HIS BUDDY. Greet all campers with a smile. Day Camp Den Walker Roles Take daily attendance. (Turn in master before the first session is started. Keep second copy with you at all times.) Escort the den from site to site. (Stay on time.) Serve as an extra set of hands for activities and games, especially CRAFTS. Keep the den together at all times. (Use buddy system & take head counts.) Maintain control and reward Scout-like behavior. (Let him carry the flag.) Calmly report problems to Headquarters quietly and promptly. Build den spirit. (Songs, yells, etc.) Encourage drinking water between every session. If first aid is needed, escort to the First Aid Station only after the rest of the den has been turned over to another responsible adult. Be on time. Wear your camp shirt every day. Be a good sport. How can a Den Walker set a good example? Be prepared for everything, even the unexpected. Smile A LOT!!! Even if it hurts! Bring 5 Scouts and get the 6 Scout free with a den walker for the week! 7 2017 CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP The Cubs Awaken WHAT IS DAY CAMP? Day Camp is a great summer activity for Cub Scouts. It is a week-long experience where Cub Scouts can shoot BB guns, bows and arrows, learn about nature, do leatherwork and crafts, play games, sing songs, and do many more activities. Leaders and boys alike have a great time. WHO CAN ATTEND DAY CAMP? All registered Cub Scouts going into the 1 st thru 5 th grades in fall of WHEN AND WHERE IS DAY CAMP? Day Camps will be conducted in June and July throughout the 64 counties in the Lincoln Heritage Council. Visit our web site for dates and locations. Scouts and units can attend any camp that they choose. They can also attend more than one day camp. HOW MUCH DOES DAY CAMP COST? Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts can attend for $100. This fee includes a t-shirt, cup, patch, snacks, crafts, and all the fun possible. Register by May 5 and receive a $10 discount (Discount fee $90). *(A late fee of $20 will be charged for all applications received within 3 weeks of the start of camp.) DISCOUNT Register by May 5 th to receive a cool patch and save $10 dollars. *ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE IN NO LATER THAN 3 WEEKS BEFORE CAMP STARTS! A LATE FEE OF $20 WILL BE CHARGED TO ALL APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF YOUR CAMP STARTING. WHAT ABOUT LEADERSHIP? Scouts should register with their pack. Five-day adults whose application is received two weeks before camp starts will receive a free t-shirt. Pack Leadership & Parents are encouraged to participate. All Tiger Cubs (1 st Grade) must be accompanied by an adult. Bring 5 Scouts to camp and the 6 is free with a den leader for the entire week. No adults pay a fee. WHAT TO BRING? Cub Scouts should bring a sack lunch each day; bring non-perishable foods & drinks only. Bring rain gear if weather looks threatening, sunscreen and bug repellent. Everything else is provided. Adults may bring a chair and a small tarp for the boys to sit on. No open-toed shoes or sandals are allowed at camp. INSURANCE A special accident insurance policy will be provided. This is secondary insurance and will become effective after a family policy is exhausted. A $100 deductible applies. WHAT ABOUT SIBLINGS? A special area is available for younger children of adults who are serving as Den Walkers and Staff members. Parents must be at Camp for their child to attend. A nominal fee of $25 covers the entire week or for any combination of days. Snacks, T-Shirt, and activities will be provided. Children must be pottytrained. These children should also bring a sack lunch. You are required to pre-register siblings. NEED HELP? A limited number of camperships are available for those who may need help with the fee. 9 A Typical Day at Camp Although each Day Camp location will have its own specific daily schedule, you can expect lots of fun and excitement all day long!! Here is a sample day at Camp (This is not an exact schedule) 8:15-8:30 Den Walkers arrive at camp. 8:45-8:55 Scouts arrive at camp and meet with their den HAVE FUN! 9:00-9:20 Opening ceremonies including flag raising, announcements, cheers, and songs HAVE FUN!! 9:30-10:20 Session I, BB s learn how to safely shoot a BB gun HAVE FUN!! 10:30-11:20 Session II, Archery learn how to safely shoot a bow and arrow and, of course, HAVE FUN!! 11:30-12:20 Eat lunch, rest, have a special guest visit with us HAVE FUN!! 12:30-1:20 Session III, Crafts make something really cool HAVE FUN!! 1:30-2:20 Session IV, Nature learn about bugs, snakes, poison ivy, first aid, trees, knots, weather, ecology HAVE FUN!! 2:30-3:20 Session V, Sports learn about a sport, practice, play, and earn a belt loop HAVE FUN!! 3:30-4:00 Closing ceremonies including flag lowering, announcements, cheers, and songs HAVE FUN!! 4:00 Parents pick up and tell everyone about your great day at Camp!! 10 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation Agenda: minutes Conducted by Pack Promotions Chair I. Opening Welcome Parents and Scouts II. III. Why Go To Day Camp? (3 minutes) It s FUN, and the Highlight of the year! Boys earn advancement toward ranks and belt loops. Boys get to build lifelong friendships. There are only a few opportunities for Cubs to shoot BB s and bows and arrows (at Council events only). So what's the plan? (5 minutes) Make sure every family has a copy of the Day Camp applications. Sign up by the Early Bird, May 5, 2017 deadline. o Remember that discount- get a $10 off just by signing up by May 5. That brings the camp fee to only $90. Recruit adults (Den Walkers) to go to camp each day with the boys. Get all applications into the Scout office including siblings and adults. Organize transportation. IV. So what's our goal? (2 minutes) Our unit goal is for every boy in our pack to have a summer camping experience. V. Show the promotional DVD VI. VII. VIII. Testimonial from past campers. Pre-select 1-2 boys and adults who have had a good experience to talk briefly. What is a campership? (2 minutes) Questions & Answers Note: Early Bird Registration deadline is May 5, $10 discount off price. A late fee of $20 will be assessed on all applications that are received within 3 weeks of camp. Walk in campers will not be guaranteed a shirt or patch. Page 10

20 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Locations Iroquois(Louisville) Shively City Park 3920 Dixie Hwy. Shively, KY Iroquois (Shepherdsville) Cub World, Camp Crooked Creek 950 Terry Dr Shepherdsville, KY Go South on Interstate 65 from Louisville to exit 112. Take that exit, and then turn left at the light onto KY 245. Go about 1 mile until you see the camp signs on the right. Turn right and go through the Meadow Peak subdivision to the camp. Proceed to the Cub World site on the right just past the Ranger s home. Dan Boone (South) Clear Creek Park 717 Burks Branch Rd Shelbyville, KY On US 60 in Shelbyville turn left onto 7 th Street. If traveling on 55 in Shelbyville turn right onto 7 th Street. Once on 7 th Street continue onto Burks Branch Road. You will see the main park entrance in front of you, but bear to the left and follow that road. You will continue past the ball fields and cross over a small bridge. Turn right onto Lake Shelby. Follow the road to the main parking lot and then bear left. This road will follow the lake to the back of the park. Camp starts where the road ends at the parking lot. Turn right travel approx. 3/4 mile turn right into Wendall Moore Park go down the hill take first right and drop off children at the Oldham County Youth Football Field Bleachers. From Crestwood go East on KY 146 to Ky Hwy 393 North. Turn left travel approx. 3/4 mile turn right into Wendall Moore Park go down the hill take first right and drop off children at the Oldham County Youth Football Field Bleachers. From Goshen/Prospect go East on US 42 to Hwy 393 North. Turn right travel approx. 4 mile turn left into Wendall Moore Park go down the hill take first right and drop off children at the Oldham County Youth Football Field Bleachers. From Westport go West on US 42 to Hwy 393 North. Cherokee Fern Creek Sportsman s Club Brush Run Road Louisville, KY From Bardstown Road: go south on Seatonville road which becomes Bush Run Road. Follow this 6.7 miles and the Sportsman s club is on the right. From the Gene Snyder and Billtown Road: go south on Billtown Road until it dead ends. Turn left onto Seatonville/Brush Run Road and follow it 3.7 miles. The Club is on the right. From Taylorsville Road: go south on Routt Road and turn right onto Brush Run Road and travel.8 miles. Lewis and Clark Tunnel Mill Scout Camp 3913 Tunnel Mill Rd Charlestown, IN Go north on Interstate 65 from Louisville to exit 6. Take that exit onto Indiana 265 East. Go 2 miles to the Indiana 62 exit. Take Indiana 62 East 12 miles to Salem Church Road. Turn left onto Salem Church Rd. and continue 1 mile to Tunnel Mill Road. Turn left onto Tunnel Mill Road and continue 1 mile until you see the Camp entrance. Lewis and Clark Silver Creek Park 2043 Silver St New Albany, IN Take 64 E to Exit 121 for 265 W, Take Exit 1 for State Street, Turn left onto W Daisy Ln, Turn left onto Grant Line Rd, Turn Right onto Beechwood Ave, Turn left onto Monon Ave, Turn right onto Silver St. Park will be on the right Lincoln Trail Freeman Lake Park Blue Heron Way Elizabethtown, KY Located in Hardin County, on the north side of Elizabethtown, is Freeman Lake. To reach the lake, take exit 96 on Interstate 65 and follow KY 61 West/South to KY 2002 which goes around Elizabethtown, then follow 2002 until you reach US 31W. Turn left here and watch for a Keith Monument on the left. There is also a small sign indicating the presence of the lake. Turn left into a city park that contains the lake. 22 Interstate 265 near the Ford Truck Plant take exit 32/Westport Road and drive west 1.4 miles. The church is on the left past a brick fence. Or from Hurstbourne Pkwy, turn east onto Westport Road and church is on your right immediately after the car wash. Four Rivers Noble Park 2932 Park Ave Paducah, KY From I-24 W to US-60 E/Hinkleville Rd in Paducah. Take exit 4 from I-24 W Follow US-60 E/Hinkleville Rd, which turns in to Park Ave. Turn left into Noble Park (1 st entrance on left beside baseball fields before main park entrance) Drive into Noble Park and park vehicle in parking lot next baseball fields. Check-in: Shelter 19 beside Arts & Crafts building and basketball courts Wapiti _Camp Rotary 100 Boy Scout Camp Rd Glasgow, KY From Bowling Green: Go North on I-65. Exit onto Cumberland Parkway. Use exit 14 (the second Glasgow exit) Take a right off the off ramp onto Burkesville Rd. Turn right off of Burkesville Rd. onto Siloam Rd. At the end Siloam Rd., take a left onto US 63. Turn Right off of US 63 (4.1 miles) onto Woods Store-Etoile Rd. Go.5 miles on Woods Store-Etoile Rd. to camp entrance on the left. From Somerset: Go West on the Cumberland Parkway to exit 14 (first Glasgow exit) Take a left off the off ramp onto Burkesville Rd. Turn right off of Burkesville Rd. onto Siloam Rd. At the end Siloam Rd., take a left onto US 63. Turn Right off of US 63 (4.1 miles) onto Woods Store-Etoile Rd. Go.5 miles on Woods Store-Etoile Rd. to camp entrance on the left Audubon Yellow Creek Park 5710 Kentucky 144 Owensboro KY From Henderson and Owensboro, take Highway 60 into Owensboro. Follow past Reid's Orchard and take the 144 exit. Follow to Yellow Creek Park. From Ohio County, Take Highway 54 to Whitesville, turn right on either Highway 69 in Fordsville, or Highway 764 in Whitesville. These highways both Tbone into Highway 144, follow to Thruston and Yellow Creek Park. Tecumseh Trail of Tears Park 100 Trail of Tears Dr. Hopkinsville, KY From the Madisonville area take Pennyrile Pky to US 41S exit 8 toward Pembroke/ Hopkinsville. Turn rt. Onto E.9th St./US 41N/109N.Take 2nd rt. Onto Trail of Tears Drive. The Trail of Tears Commemorative Park is on the rt. Page 22

23 Tecumseh Madisonville City Park 745 City Park Dr Madisonville, KY From Henderson Take Pennyrile Parkway/I-69 S to Exit 114; stay right onto Anton Rd/Hwy 70; turn left onto Park Ave (at stop 2nd light); turn right into Madisonville City Park, follow City Park Dr to the Clubhouse located behind the baseball stadium. From Hopkinsville Take West KY Parkway/I-69 N to Exit 114; stay right onto Anton Rd/Hwy 70; turn left onto Park Ave (at stop 2nd light); turn right into Madisonville City Park, follow City Park Dr to the Clubhouse located behind the baseball stadium. From Princeton Take Pennyrile Parkway/I-69 N to Exit 114; stay right onto Anton Rd/Hwy 70; turn left onto Park Ave (at stop 2nd light); turn right into Madisonville City Park, follow City Park Dr to the Clubhouse located behind the baseball stadium. Wapiti Wildcat Hollow 1940 Stuart Smotherman Rd Russellville KY From Bowling Green: Take 68/80 West to Russellville. Once in Russellville, at the 2nd stop light (68/80 Bypass) turn right and follow around to the 3rd stop light (431-N, you should have just crossed over a set of rail road tracks) turn right. Go about 1.3 miles, Stuart Smotherman Road is on the left. Follow the road to the end thru the Badgett Reservation gate, just ahead turn right and go up the hill. Camp posted speed limit is 15 miles an hour. Page 23
