2 Kiokee District Cub Scout Day Camp Cub Scout Day Camp is an accredited, organized, five day program for Tiger Cubs with Adult Partners, Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts. It is held at an approved site and under the direction of BSA National Day Camp School trained leadership. Cub Scout Day Camp is usually held during daylight, or early evening hours, but has NO overnight camping. Cub Scout Day Camp ensures emphasis on the twelve core values of scouting: citizenship, compassion, cooperation, courage, faith, health and fitness, honesty, perseverance, positive attitude, resourcefulness, respect, and responsibility. Incorporating these values, in an outdoor setting, with creativity, friends and FUN is what makes day camp GREAT! Day Camps offer a variety of activities and may include: archery, BB shooting, water activities, sports, crafts, team building activities, opportunities to earn belt loops, pins, and other BSA awards. Activities and awards may vary by camp. Please note: Cub Scouts will not be denied the opportunity to attend day camp because of an inability to pay. A limited number of Camperships are available. 3 *Cub Scouts may attend ANY Day Camp offered in the Council.* Kiokee District Cub Scout Day Camp June 17 21, :30AM-3:30 PM. Kiokee District's Cub Scout Day Camp theme is, Wild World of Racing. The following belt loops may be earned during day camp: Archery, BB Shooting, Bicycling, Fishing, Flag Football, Marbles, Music, Science, Swimming and Ultimate. Other activities will include: arts and crafts, canoeing, environmental awareness, Pine Wood Derby, Rain Gutter Regatta, Space Derby, Marble Derby, patriotism, physical fitness, outdoor cooking, scouting skills, team building, water bottle rockets and MUCH, more! Again this year, we will have a misting tent to help keep us cool and a trading post with a large variety of craft kits, toys, trinkets and snacks for scouts of all ages. 5 Why should Cub Scouts attend Day Camp? Why Not? Cub Scout Day Camps offer on average 7 to 12 belt loops or pins and opportunities to earn other awards such as: BSA Physical Fitness Award, Cub Scout Wildlife Conservation Award, Emergency Preparedness Award, and much more! (Activi ties var y by camp.) One requirement to earn a Cub Scout Outdoor Activity A ward (Pocket Flap) is to attend a Cub Scout Day Camp! One requirement to earn the Bob White Lodge Cub Scout Camping Award is for Cub Scouts to attend a Cub Scout Day Camp! One objective for A Journey to Excellence is for Cub Scout Packs to participate in a Cub Scout Day Camp!

6 Cub Scout Day Camp FAQ's Who can attend day camp? Boys age 6 to 10 or entering 1st through 5th Grade in the Fall. Boys must be registered with the Georgia-Carolina Council. My son just completed Kindergarten. Can he attend? Yes. He MUST register as a Tiger Cub first, then, he and his Adult Partner must attend camp together. What should I send with my son? All campers should bring a day pack with the following: Cub Scout handbook, sun screen, insect repellant, hat, towel, swimwear, water bottle, and a sack lunch. Please leave toys and electronic items at home. Label all items with Name & Pack. What should I send for lunch? The ideal sack lunch will have a variety of items from all food groups. Children should be able to open items with minimal assistance. Refrigeration is NOT available; please send appropriate foods. You may wish to send mid-day snacks also. What should my son wear at camp? The camp uniform is shorts and day camp T-shirt. ONLY closed toe shoes will be allowed at camp. Water shoes may be worn during water activities only. NO Sandals, NO EXCEPTIONS -- Your son will be sent home. Can my other children attend day camp? Yes., but ONLY If you work as a trained volunteer at camp, and then your child can only attend on the days you are working at day camp. Is First Aid Available at day camp? Yes. Day camps have trained medical personnel present. All campers must have the Annual Health & Medical Form on file at day camp. This form is available at: and at the end of this packet. Any specific medical concerns should be discussed with the Day Camp Director and Medical Officer. How will my scout be protected at day camp? All camp staff/volunteers have completed BSA Youth protection training and day camp volunteer training. Two-deep leadership will be maintained at all times. The Buddy System will be used at all times in camp. Visitors MUST sign-in with the camp director, and only authorized adults will be allowed to remove scouts from camp. The appropriate County Sheriff's Dept. will assist if necessary. What about disciplinary problems? Scouts must refrain from profanity, teasing, and inappropriate physical contact. If discipline problems escalate and cannot be managed by staff, parents will be notified to pick their child up immediately. No refund of camp fees will be given for days missed due to disciplinary problems. This applies to parents and visitors as well. We will not tolerate foul language, arguing, and name calling, etc. at camp you will be asked to leave immediately. Under no circumstances are parents to approach a volunteer with complaints unless immediate danger is perceived. Take ALL concerns to the Day Camp Director as soon as it occurs. Please do not wait until the last day of camp to address an issue having occurred on Monday. *Children should continue to take medications normally taken while in school. Are Camperships available? YES! No scout will be denied attendance at day camp because of inability to pay. Please see your Cub Master for more information. Further questions should be directed to the Council Office.

7 TRADING POST Our Trading Post is open during camp hours and has a good variety of beverages, snacks, scout shop items, toys, outdoor items, and much more! It is always a big hit during the lunch hour. The typical scout spends upwards of $20 at our Trading Post during camp. We accept prepayment of Trading Post money for your convenience. All monies pre-paid will be placed in an account for your scout. His purchases will be deducted from his account. No more worrying about lost money. (There is no refund for unused money in this account. Money remaining after camp will be used to purchase trading post items for your son and given to your pack leadership at the earliest District Roundtable meeting.) 8 Considering Volunteering for day camp? Volunteering is work, but its FUN work! Day Camp is fully staffed by volunteers and could not happen without them. For their hard work and dedication, day camp volunteers receive: 50% off the cost of their scout s day camp registration fee Day camp t-shirt Day camp patch Day camp water bottle Appreciation lunch on Thursday at day camp. **The above are for trained day camp volunteers only not for adults simply visiting with their children during day camp even daily.
