2 THE OUTING IN SCOUTING Dear Leaders, Welcome to the Knights of Winnebago, our resident camp theme for the Winnebago Council in We ve spent a lot of time listening to as many of you as we could and we ve gotten tremendous input on ideas to improve our camping options. We think we have a little bit of something for everyone this summer and we are encouraging you to share this with your Cub Scouts and their families. Scouts have three ways that they can attend: as individuals with their parent/guardian, as dens, or as a pack for any of our Cub Scout Camps and we ask that you help us to encourage them in trying out a couple different options saw a tremendous amount of change with camping operations in the Winnebago Council. We enter 2013 with these changes in place and embrace the new opportunities that these changes are allowing us to make. We will once again have a varied and enthusiastic staff awaiting your arrival for camp this summer. We will have fun from the time you get up in the morning until we sound taps for the night and then do it again the next day. We want to send you and your Scouts home smiling and exhausted from the activity. Oh yeah, along the way we just might teach your Scouts something new and useful. Fun With A Purpose -the Cub Scout Way. Here s our offerings: Cub Scout Family Overnighter (New for 2013)-A simple overnighter for Scouting families to go camping at Ingawanis. The pool will be open Saturday evening and we will provide a continental breakfast on Sunday. Shooting Sports Weekend (Back for 2013)-All day Saturday to work on your BB Gun and Archery Belt Loops and Pins. We will have the pool open on Saturday to relax after a hard day of focusing on your targets. Cub Scout Resident Camp-Our Highlight Camp where we will offer all TEN program areas during your stay. Be ready to hit the trails running and hit the sack wiped out. Webelos Transition Weekend (New for 2013)-We will match Webelos up in Patrols and spend some time in each of the program areas that the Boy Scouts experience at Boy Scout Camp. We will work on some Arrow- Of-Light requirements, some basic Boy Scout skills, and have a lot of fun while we re doing it. I look forward to speaking with you about the Camping programs offered at Ingawanis Adventure Base. 3 Medical forms for each person (youth and adult) as well as a complete unit roster must be turned in upon arrival. What about Tigers? Those new scouts who will be going into 1 st grade cannot come to resident camp. However, there are day camps and other programs offered by the Winnebago Council in which they will be able to participate. More information can be found at How many leaders must attend? Every unit must have two-deep leadership at all times and one of these leaders must be over the age of 21. There can be no more than five Scouts for every adult leader. However, a Scout may attend any activity with one adult parent or guardian. All adults in attendance must have completed Youth Protection Training. Unit leaders and adults will be responsible for the supervision and discipline of the Scouts in their units. Activities in Camp All of our Resident camps at Ingawanis Adventure Base have many different activity options for the Scouts to participate in: Archery BB Guns Mountain Bikes Nature Study Team Sports Crafts Horses Swimming Pedal Cars New for 2013: SuperNova to earn their STEM awards We tailor these activities to meet belt loop or rank advancement requirements and these will vary from session to session. Activity schedules may be adjusted due to weather and time constraints, but every effort will be made to allow for everyone to have time in each area. 4 WHAT TO BRING Cub Scouts and Webelos (youth only) will stay in one of the five cabins: Cedar View, Valley Forge, Robin Hood, Elliott, or Arrow. Each cabin has cots and mattresses. Cub Scouts and Webelos are also encouraged to tent camp and are encouraged to bring their own tents and bedding. If all space in the cabins is filled, then additional Cub Scouts and Webelos will all need to tent camp. Youth members are not allowed to sleep in tents with adults other than their own parents or guardians. Adult leaders will also need to bring their own tents and bedding. Campers will be able to purchase snacks, drinks, camp t-shirts, souvenirs, and other scout items. Income from the trading post helps offset camp fees.

5 Arriving at Camp When arriving at Cub Resident Camp, one leader per unit needs to check in at the Director s Lodge. The leader needs to have three copies of the unit roster: one for the Camp Director, one for the Health Officer, and one for the unit leader. After checking in, the leader will be directed to take the entire unit to the Health Lodge. The camp health officer will review the medical form for each Scout and adult. After completing their medical review, campers will proceed to their swim check. Any Scout coming late must sign in at the Director s Lodge, review the Health Form with the Health Officer, and arrange for a swim check. Any Scout leaving early must have a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian and must check out at the Director s Lodge. CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT TIMES CUB AND WEBELOS RESIDENT CAMP begins at 6:30 pm on Thursday (Sessions 1 &3) or Saturday evenings (Sessions 2 & 4). Supper will not be provided on Thursday or Saturday. Camp will end on Saturdays or Mondays at noon. Stay for both sessions on the weekend and double your fun. FAMILY OVERNIGHT CAMP begins on Saturday afternoon with checkout before 11 am on Sunday. Dinner is on your own and a continental breakfast will be available at the dining hall on Sunday morning. SHOOTING SPORTS CAMP begins at 6:30 pm on Friday and ends on Sunday at noon. Supper will not be provided on Friday and only a light lunch will be served on Sunday. WEBELOS TRANSITION CAMP begins at 6:30 pm on Thursday and ends at noon on Sunday. Supper will not be provided on Thursday. PROGRAM SCHEDULES AND CAMP MAPS WILL BE HANDED OUT AT CHECK IN

6 HEALTH AND SAFETY INFORMATION Emergencies A qualified Health Officer will be on duty while camp is in session. All injuries or illness need to be reported immediately. In the case of serious injury or illness every effort will be made to contact the camper s parent. Charges for health care will be the responsibility of the Scout s family. Medical Forms Every Scout and adult attending any of the Camp programs must have a completed Medical Form to attend camp. These forms are reviewed by the Health Officer and kept at the Health Lodge in case of an emergency. Campers will not be allowed to participate in activities unless a Health Form is completed. Forms may be picked up when leaving camp. If the forms are not picked up they will be destroyed. Medication All medication, prescription and non-prescription (yes, even Tylenol and Aspirin) is kept in the Health Lodge. Medication must be in its original container and correctly labeled. Bad Weather The staff will review emergency procedures with the leaders in camp on the first day at check-in. There are specifically designated buildings at Ingawanis Adventure Base available for shelter during any emergency weather conditions. The pool will close for any thunder or threat of severe weather and remain closed until severe weather has passed.
