T-shirt, patch and water bottle are included in the camp fee. Please review the information found in this booklet carefully, it should answer all or at least most of your questions. 4 Leadership & Supervision Camp leadership and supervision will be provided in the following ways: 1. trained Camp and Program Directors have designed the camp schedule and its program. 2. Instructors in each of the program areas have expertise in that area and have received proper training. 3. Instructors will be assisted by Boy Scouts or adults who have been trained to teach Cub Scout and Webelos Scout skills. 4. Certified First Aid staff will be on duty at all times during the operation of camp. 5. PACKS PROVIDE TWO ADULT WALKERS FOR EVERY EIGHT BOYS ATTENDING CAMP FROM THEIR PACK NOT INCLUDING TIGER CUBS. TIGER CUBS MUST HAVE AN ADULT TIGER PARTNER WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES. PARENTS WILL HAVE FUN TOO! 6. There is NO smoking or drinking allowed at camp. The Camp Director will advise adult supervisors each day during the opening ceremony. As hard as we try to keep parents with their son s group, it is sometimes necessary to make changes to provide adequate supervision for all groups. Your pack may be called upon to help by operating a program area for the week. Please volunteer. It s easy and fun! Special Needs In the operation of the Day Camp, no child will be discriminated against because of race, color, creed, sex, national religion, handicap or the ability to pay for camp. Special accommodations will be made for any boy with a special need. Please indicate on the Health and Safety Form any considerations that need to be made for the Scout by the camp staff in the program so it can be altered for the scout and yet provide a minimum amount of disruption in the session. If there is a family that is in need of financial assistance, the Blackhawk Area Council provides Campership Forms. The family will fill out the Campership Form and return to the Council Office in Rockford as soon as possible so the Scout can be checked for eligibility for the program. In the past, this program has been very successful for the camp in getting those Scouts with economic restriction to camp. In either of these cases, please feel free to call the Day Camp Director or the Day Camp Program Director with any questions or concerns you may have. Health & Safety Health Forms A health form is required for ALL human beings that are participating at camp. Please fill out the form completely. If the Scout or an adult has ANY allergies (food, environment, etc ) please check the box at the top of the form and list the allergies on the back. Be sure to fill out the portion of the form that notifies the Camp Staff if any medication will be brought to camp. If the medication requires refrigeration, a refrigerator will be available to store the medication while at camp. Medications ALL medications that are required for any Scout will be collected each morning at the morning opening ceremony. The medication must be in the ORIGINAL PRESCIPTION CONTAINER with the DIRECTIONS clearly printed on it. Please make sure that the Scout has enough medication that is required for 1 (one) day s dosage only. The remaining medication or empty container will be returned to the Scout at the closing
ceremony so he will be able to return with it the next day. The medication will be retained by the Medical Officer throughout the day, with the exception of PERSONAL INHALERS AND EPIPENS. The scout MUST notify the Medical Officer, Den Walkers and his buddy that he has medication with him. Day Camp Uniform The Day Camp uniform will consist of the Day Camp t-shirt and either short or long pants. Each boy must wear this uniform or his Scout uniform shirt each day of camp. This will allow our staff to quickly identify at a glance children who are not campers. Please adhere to this request for each boy s safety. THIS CAMP CONTAINS POISON IVY; LONG PANTS, SOCKS AND TENNIS SHOES ARE REQUESTED. IF A SCOUT DOES NOT HAVE SOCKS AND TENNI SHOES THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE. Other Stuff to Bring, a.k.a. A Scout is Prepared FOOD: A sack lunch is required for each day for Scouts, adult volunteers, Kiddie Korral Kids. Lunches will be gathered at the morning opening ceremony. Camp Lowden lunches will be placed in den totes and will be placed in a refrigerator. Morrison Day Camp will not have refrigerators available, please bring your own coolers. IMPORTANT: If you expect to eat while at camp, bring a lunch! Please DO NOT BRING SODA to camp. Soda only makes a Scout thirstier. Camp will be conducted Rain or Shine! Please take this into consideration when helping your son decide how to dress for the day at camp. Bring Rain Gear!! We do reserve the right to cancel camp or shorten the day because of storms, extreme heat etc... YOUR CAMP CONTACT PERSON WILL BE NOTIFIED IF CAMP IS CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER. BACKPACKS are required while at camp to carry your rain gear and to carry your finished crafts. A backpack, like those used at school, is all that is necessary. HATS AND COMFORTABLE SHOES are MANDITORY while at camp. No sandals or opened toes shoes will be allowed at camp. Your safety is our first priority. New shoes are also not a good thing to have at camp since they won t be broken in fully and may hurt your feet. Hats are required to protect you from sun and any critters that are at Camp with you. CAMERA to document your fun while at camp is a great item to have. The disposables that are available are great and fairly inexpensive. Please leave any expensive cameras at home as they have a tendency to become broken or in some cases take hikes on their own. MEDICATION WATER BOTTLE SUNSCREEN BUG SPRAY PLEASE MARK ALL ITEMS BROUGHT TO CAMP WITH THE SCOUT S NAME AND PACK NUMBER
Additional Supplies that may be required for your stay Some of the required items or items that are hard to come by could be obtained from your local Boy Scout Troops or by arranging with other Packs to bring a few items so everybody doesn t have to. BOY SCOUT TROOP KITCHEN KITS - These are usually packed with items that are required to fix meals while at camp. These kits include: cooking pots, utensils, spices, condiments etc Please be sure if your Pack does borrow one from your Boy Scout Troop that you take responsibility for keeping it in good shape, keep it clean and re-stock the kit of needed. Makes sure to bring back in better shape than you received. TENTS Your Troop may be able to help you with this or maybe other members of your Pack have extra ones. WAGONS This item is required to help you transport your supplies from your vehicle to and from your campsite rather than you having to carry your supplies**. There has been a large amount of sharing of these by Packs and individuals, so maybe several members of your Pack can bring these and others may be able to do something else. COOPERATION This is a big item. So many things can go real smooth with a little thought and pre-planning on the part of the Pack and its members. ** Please remember: NO privately owned vehicles will be allowed to travel to the camp sites. IMPORTANT: ABSOLUTELY NO PRIVATLEY OWNED VEHICLES WILL BE ALLOWED TO TRAVEL TO INDIVDUAL CAMPSITES. ONLY AUTHORIZED CAMP VEHICLES. THE SAFTEY OF OUR SCOUTS AND ADULTS IS OUR HIGHEST PRIORITY!! TO TRANSPORT YOUR BELOMGINGS TO CAMPSITE, IT IS BEST TO BRING A WAGON TO TAKE YOUR SUPPLIES TO YOUR ASSIGNED AREA. Inclement Weather Day Camp will continue rain or shine! If unwelcomed weather leads to sever weather warnings, Lowden Scouts will go to the Dining Hall: Morrison Scouts will go to the Morrison Methodist Church for PICK-UP ONLY. Emergency procedures can be found in each den bag that the Den Walkers will have. During camp day, a weather radio will be monitored by camp staff at all times for any changes in the weather. Parents can be a big help by seeing that the Scout is dressed appropriately for the day s weather. The goal of the White Eagle District Day Camp and for the Cub Scout Day Camp program is for each boy to have an exciting and memorable time, no matter what the weather is. This can t be done without the help of the parents or guardians of the White Eagle District.
Lost and Found Items that are found at camp while the boys are there will be available for claiming at te closing ceremonies. Items that are not claimed will be taken to the September Roundtable, afer that they will be taken to Blackhawk Area Council following the September Roundtable. Please mark all items with the Scout s name and Pack number. Transportation Transportation of the Scout to and from camp is the responsibility of the Pack and families. Keeping to the required two-deep rule of leadership, if the Packs are organizing transportation EVERYONE should be aware when and where the Scout is to be dropped off and picked-up. In this time of high fuel cost, carpooling is highly encouraged. On the health form, please indicate who the child can be released to if other than parent or guardian or by the Pack carpooling. Please send a note with the Scout to camp as to who is responsible for taking the Scout home. Webelos Scout Information On Friday, all Scouts and adults are required to bring food to make a foil lunch. Kiddie Korral kids will need a sack lunch. For the Webelos Overnight on Friday, each Scout MUST have an adult with him. He is also responsible for his own camping gear and Friday evening supper. The Webelos Overnighter will include a campfire with songs, skits and fellowship. On Saturday morning, each campsite will receive items for breakfast. Details to follow upon registration. There will be enough food, so make sure and eat a healthy breakfast!! If you are participating in the Webelos Overnighter, you MUST have a health form filled out and turned-in with the Pack registration. Safety Rules For the safety of all campers and staff, the following rules will be strictly enforced: If you can t take it to school, don t bring it to camp! No swearing, foul or offensive language. Bullying of any kind will NOT be tolerated at camp. Buddy System We will be using the Buddy System at camp at all times. The boys are to stay with their assigned camp den during the entire week. No Knives are allowed at camp ever. Running, rock throwing, and tree climbing is prohibited. If things aren t working out, please tell a Camp Staff or adult. Please don t take matters into your own hands. If you have a medical issue, even just a scratch, get it checked out by the Medical Officer. Please remember the Scout motto Leave No Trace Alcohol and smoking anywhere on the ground of White Eagle Day Camp is strictly prohibited. Scouts are not allowed to drive ANY motorized vehicle while on the White Eagle Day Camp grounds. Leaving the confines of the camp without signing out at the office is not allowed. All campers, staff, walkers and visitors must check-in and out of camp. Anyone who cannot follow these simple rules will not be allowed to remain in camp. ALCOHOL IS STRCITLY PROHIBITED ON THE GROUNDS OF WHITE EAGLE DAY CAMP. IF ALCHOL IS FOUND, YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATLET ESCORTED OFF CAMP GROUNDS.
Tiger Cubs Boys who will begin their Scouting career in the fall of 2013 as Tiger Cubs are most welcome to join us at camp. For some of these boys, this may be their first exposure to Scouting so we want to make it the best time for them. Packs need to remember that when registering a Tiger Cub that he MUST have an adult Tiger Cub Partner. This is required through the whole first year and at all times while at camp. Tiger Cubs are eligible to participate in BB Gun and archery. Kiddie Korral Sitter service for the siblings of the Cub Scouts will be provided for parents that work on staff or are den walkers.
