3 WELCOME & MISSION Dear Leaders and Parents: Last year, we tried a new program concept for our Cub Scout Resident Camps by turning them into a Family Camp so the whole family can participate. It was a huge hit and we have decided to once again offer the same style of program! This year, participants can sign up for a Thursday through Sunday program or a Friday through Sunday program. Also, participants have the option to eat in our dinning hall for a higher price or you can bring your own food for a lower price. Programs will once again be open for all to participate at any time with certain times set for scouts to work on requirements towards their rank. The dates for this year are: August 3rd-August 6th August 10th-August13th This guide is designed to help you prepare for the weekend along with explaining the various programs and activities we will be offering. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! Cheers, Cameron Ackley Camping Director Cameron.Ackley@scouting.org
4 WELCOME & MISSION MISSION Camp Alexander will provide a unique and steadily expanding Colorado Mountain-Top Experience emphasizing life skills and instilling Scouting values in Scouts, adult volunteers, and others throughout the Pikes Peak region. PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY The philosophy of the camp staff is a total commitment to serving our customers (Scouts and their adult leaders) to the best of our ability. We firmly believe that family camp is an opportunity to do more than earn belt loops or pins. It is also a time for a boy to learn more about himself, develop his leadership skills, build character, and enjoy the mountain environment. Your Scouts will have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of programs ranging from aquatics to shooting sports, and nature. Your experience should also include hiking in the beautiful Eleven Mile Canyon that surrounds Camp Alexander so your boys may experience the beauty of our Pike National Forest. It is the goal of our camp staff to make sure that each Scout that attends Camp Alexander this year has a great camping experience and is able to accomplish all of his set goals and still have time to have fun and enjoy the mountains of Colorado. What is Cub Family Camp? Cub Scout Family Camp is a programmatic weekend event for you, your scout, and your entire family. All family members will be able to participate in all activities. What will the scouts be doing? Fishing, swimming, boating, BB s, archery, hiking, camping outdoors, crafts, cooking, singing, & getting dirty!! For more information, take a look through our program guide! Why should I encourage my family to attend camp? This camp is designed to be fun for the whole family. This is an opportunity for you and your family to enjoy what the outdoors and Camp Alexander has to offer. 4
