2 David Townsend, CPD President, C.I. Chapter of ASPE October is here which means Central Indiana ASPE has been in existence for 40 years. We will be hosting our Members Only 40th Anniversary Celebration this Saturday Night (October 11, 2014) at the Indiana Live in Shelbyville. See further information on the event in this newsletter. We will have some of our founding members present to hopefully share some information about the early years of our chapter. A few weeks ago I, along with four chapter delegates, was able to attend the 2014 ASPE Convention and EPE. It was a great convention and the Expo portion was well attended as well. I attended a few very informative technical sessions while there. I did notice a great turnout of Central Indiana ASPE members, Reps, Manufacturers present at the Expo. I was not on the bus from Indy to the Expo, but I heard that the trip was great. I am excited that our chapter was able to provide this for our members. I want to give a big Thank you to Aqua Systems for their sponsorship and contributions to make the bus trip a success. All-inall the Delegate Business meetings were great. I think this was the first year that they flowed so smoothly and efficiently. You will be able to read more about the convention in the ASPE Magazine, ASPE Pipeline and on the ASPE Website. 3 Evansville Blog: Greetings from Southern Indiana. Larry Fox, CPD President, ASPE Evansville We had a great turnout at our first meeting in September. The total attendance was 33 thanks to a good representation from the local Contractors and Plumbers. I would like to thank Matt McBride for taking the time out of his busy schedule to speak at our meeting about the local regulations for grease and oil separators for Vanderburgh County. Another ASPE Convention and Exposition has come and gone and I hope you had the opportunity to go to Chicago and help celebrate ASPE s 50th year. I would like to congratulate our local ASPE member Greg Farmer for his hard work in co-chairing the convention. It was a good convention and a well organized exposition. I was finally able to take my time and visit with as many of the over 300 exhibitors, as I wanted without being pressured for time which was not always the case in past expositions. I was proud to represent the Chapter as a delegate to the convention and to cast my vote on the proposed by-laws for the good of the Society. The new by-laws can be viewed on ASPE.org. If you have never attended an ASPE Convention and Exposition I challenge you to do so. You will never regret your decision to do so. It is well worth your time. I have been fortunate to be able to attend 9 conventions and expos over my career and I have good memories from all of them. Happy 40th Anniversary to the Central Indiana Chapter!! See this newsletter for further details of their upcoming celebration plans. Evansville ASPE continues to grow. We now have a total of 20 members and we have only been a satellite Chapter for 2 years! I believe that number will continue to increase thanks to your continued support. I hope you will join us at our next meeting in October 23rd. 4 Tech News Now: Your Chapter Delegates, me included have recently returned from the 2014 ASPE Convention and Exposition in Chicago and I must say it was a great event! It was very well organized, lots of business was conducted, including the elections of our new officers. Several of these new officers are from our own Region 2! Our new president is Mitch Clemente from Cleveland, The new Treasurer is Chris Graham, Pittsburgh Chapter and former Region 2 Director. Our new Region 2 Director is Keith Bush, also from the Cleveland Chapter. I ve gotten to know these guys over the years as we all have served on the chapter boards and attended the ASPE Conventions regularly. I can assure you that we are in good hands for the next few years. The technical seminars were also very interesting and educational. The Exposition was very well attended and the manufacturer s had some great booths and lots of new products. We also had a great turnout with our own Indiana ASPE members taking advantage of the chartered bus ride up for the Monday Expo. It seemed like every corner I turned I bumped into one of my Indiana colleagues! As with all previous conventions, there was also a little time set aside for fun. Sunday night was the big 50th Anniversary celebration at the House of Blues! Lots of good food and great music. Monday night is set aside for visiting the manufacturer s hospitality suites. These were scattered all over the heart of Chicago and were quite enjoyable. The manufacturers went all out to show their gratitude for past and future successes. This October is a big month for us! We will celebrate our 40 years of being an ASPE chapter! This is a pretty big deal for us, especially since Society is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. If you haven t read about it by now, we have a big event scheduled for this Saturday, October 11th at the Indiana Grand Casino. It is open and free to all ASPE members and I would like to encourage all to join us for this big occasion. We will have a buffet dinner, a special race will be held in our honor, and door prizes will be awarded to those in attendance. I m sure it will be a fun time for everyone! It s not too late to RSVP for this to Dan Cummins, or anyone else on the board. Also, October 16 brings us our next Chapter meeting and seminar. We will have Hank Lenzen with Armstrong with us and he will educate us on the Safe Hot Water systems. Details are printed elsewhere in this issue. The bank account is holding steady. There are a few Invoices still out on the golf outing and on the newsletter advertising ASPE National Convention: 22 RSVPs for the Bus to the Expo, Delegate information has been passed out to all delegates and Convention schedule was discussed. CIASPE 40th Anniversary Celebration Attendee gifts are ordered and received. Founding members are being invited as well as our membership. New Business Monthly Luncheons 2014/2015 Topics for presentations for 2014/2015 luncheons Still need sponsors for February, March and April. 13 October Meeting Preview The US Department of Energy (DOE) 2015 Water Heater Efficiency Standards Course Outline: Safe Hot Water Prevention of Legionella Disease and Scald Injury from Potable Water Distribution Systems Review of what is currently being done to design, install, and maintain a Safe Domestic Water System. Various types Mixing Valves and their role in a Safe Hot Water System. Speaker Bio: Hank Lenzen Midwest Regional Manager Armstrong Hot Water Group Hank is a Licensed Plumber (3rd Generation) and Certified Plumbing Inspector in the State of Illinois and has worked as a Plumber in the field on many high rise and institutional buildings in his career in the Plumbing Industry. Additionally, Hank has worked as a Project Manager for a large commercial plumbing company and was a Plumbing Inspector in the City of Chicago. Currently Hank works with various Hospitals, The Veterans Administration Hospitals, Universities, Hotels, and commercial buildings in the Mid-West reviewing their Hot Water Systems and helping establish Safe Hot Water Systems with the use of Master Mixing Valves and helps establish programs for the building legionella prevention programs.
