1 Rods & Relics of Lincoln Hills, P. O. Box 93, Lincoln CA Volume 6, Issue 10 October 2013 OPINION ON THE CALIFORNIA AUTO MUSEUM At our September business meeting it was mentioned that our club membership in the California Auto Museum was due to be renewed but no action was taken. I recommend we renew our membership. Club membership is only $ per year. Our membership includes one free admission per year for each of our members and the opportunity to display a Rods & Relics informational plaque showing we support the Museum. And although we would need to purchase a wall plaque or banner I am not sure why we have not taken advantage of this opportunity to get the Rods & Relics of Lincoln Hills name out, since this was one of the reasons we joined the museum in the first place. Our Mission Statement states we have an interest in the restoration, preservation and enjoyment of collector vehicles. What better way to support this mission than to support the California Auto Museum that shares the same mission and provides an opportunity to educate people, young and old, about cars so they can see them and learn about the development of the automobile and its influence on our lives. One thing that makes our museum great is that it is what I would call a working man s Museum since it displays cars we can all relate to, as opposed to High End Super Cars or cars we like to look at but could never afford. If we do not support the Museum who will? Ray Geiger MISSION STATEMENT The Rods & Relics Of Lincoln Hills Car Club is a non-profit organization formed by individuals with an interest in the restoration, preservation, and enjoyment of collector vehicles, such as Original, Antiques, Classics, Street Rods, Muscle Cars, Special Interest, Modified, and other American or Americanpowered vehicles 1972 and older. We use this strong interest to facilitate fund raising and community service to non-profit organizations and people in need. 2 CAUGHT IN THE HEADLIGHTS GETTING TO KNOW PAUL AND PEGGY CELILLO We were both born in San Francisco and lived near the airport. Our parents moved to South San Francisco when we were very young. Paul and I met and became sweethearts in We were married on August 8th We have three great kids: two daughters and a son, who have given us six Grandkids and one Great -Grandchild who is now 3 and a half. Paul was the owner of his own electrical company for 20 years in South San Francisco. Then moved his job to Sacramento to join with a friend to create BCE, Inc. One of the largest electrical companies in the area. He retired after 35 plus years in the electrical building business in January of We have lived in the Sacramento area for close to 23 years, currently we live in Del Webb Lincoln. We were introduced to the Rods N Relics by Walt Ernst, founder of the club. Paul is currently plagued by Parkinson s disease and it is taking away so much of his ability to do what he loves. We will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary next year. We bought our little 53 Merc-o-Matic in We had searched for one for a long time. It is the car we went on dates in through High School and thought it would be fun to have one again. It is all original and has been restored to almost NEW looking. We only had to re-chrome it and do a few minor fixes to the mechanics. It runs like new and we both love it. We look forward to doing as much as possible with the Club, depending on Paul s health. Paul & Peggy Celillo 2

5 The California Auto Museum s New Home The New Home for the Museum is alive and progressing contrary to some rumors and misinformation currently circulating. Paul Snyder, a long time Sacramento area auto dealer (Suburban Ford, Elk Grove Toyota, etc.) has committed to the purchase of the current site and the demolition of the current structure and the construction of a two story joint use museum facility of approximately 180,000 square feet. Sixty thousand square feet will be for a new natural history museum and the remaining space will be common area and the CAM. The City, the current owner of the land and building has agreed to a purchase price for the land, however, the City Council must ratify the agreement and the plans have to be approved through the Planning Commission and the City Building Department. At this time, the parties are not ready for the Council. The preliminary plans are being redrawn at the current time to incorporate some suggested design concepts of the city and others. Although there have been some objections from some groups, such as the Humane Society the project is still moving forward but on a slower time schedule. Initial plans looked to a spring, 2014 demolition and commencement of construction but that is now it being set further out. I ll keep the Rods and Relics updated as we move forward. See the new website at sacramentowaterfrontmuseumproject.com for further information. Bill Van Gundy EARLY IRON CAR CLUB IN UKIAH The Early Iron Car Club has been around for 32 years and has been sponsoring a wonderful car show for the last 23 years. The Club starts the weekend rolling with a band at the Pear Tree Shopping Plaza which is full of beautiful cars and friends from all over the state meeting & greeting. Some of them come every year, from many miles away. Early Saturday morning the parking crew was out putting up signs for the different classes of cars. Each car must be registered by the 1st of September and from the information the owners send in, they are placed in their specific category. Each car has a sticker with the information so the parkers know where to put them. It was raining just past gentle when Ed & Steve headed out to help with the parking. By the time Margie & I arrived it wasn t too bad and folks were just looking at donuts & coffee to get them started. There were many friends catching up from last year when they were at the Ukiah Show. The cars were very clean because every time it stopped raining and the sun came out the lovely Show vehicles were stripped of the water that had fallen. The trophy ceremony was short & sweet but always nice because you get to see which cars won & their owners. Sunday was coffee & donuts before we lined up for the poker run around Ukiah which also turned out to be a great history lesson. Then onto lunch at the Elks Hall where the winners of the Trivia Game and best Poker Hand, were announced. We had a nice time telling our husbands which way to go. J McVey 5

6 SWABBIES ON THE RIVER In the interest of doing different things with our cars, other than just going to car shows, we had a fun time going to Swabbies, a fine restaurant, on the river. There were eight of us heading out from Strikes and we met Chuck & Gloria along the way. I was leading, big mistake, although we got to see the new Sacramento Airport on the way. We avoided the freeway and had a casual drive over to our destination. Ralph Garcia, Ray Geiger, Carl & Lorry Hillstead, Al & Eva Alves, Kent Parsell, George Funk, and Dennis & Donna Malone made up the party that went. We played a trivia game and had a good lunch right by the river in a great setting. This time of year it's not crowded. In fact, there was only one other foursome in the entire place. The weather was great and after lunch we headed home. They have great fish Tacos. Alan Taylor LINCOLN MEADOWS CARE CENTER As our car season comes to an end, we had a great experience at the FEEL GOOD SHOW at Lincoln Meadows Care Center. This facility hosts a great show. The weather was perfect. They had coffee in the morning for us, cooked hot dogs & hamburgers for lunch, and they topped it off with Root Beer Floats. The music was great, hosted by a Disc. Jockey. We had 21 cars and boy did they get a lot of attention! The senior citizens here needed a lot of assistance. I took great pleasure in wheeling several of the senior citizens around, describing the different cars to them. It warms my heart to see the joy we bring these seniors each year. It is something I am proud to be a part of and want to thank everyone who took the time out of their schedules to display their cars. THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE WHO ATTENDED. SINCERELY, ALAN TAYLOR. Excerpt from. ASSOCIATION OF CALIFORNIA CAR CLUBS NEWSLETTER From the time I was a kid I have always been a complete car fanatic, so when I got an invite to the Downtown Lincoln Car Show on June 1st I jumped at the chance. The Show had more than 450 cars on display, but I m a muscle car guy, so when I saw Robert Ball s absolutely gorgeous Dodge Challenger I saw a clear winner. I presented Mr. Ball the Senator s Trophy for having my favorite car. Thanks to Rods & Relics of Lincoln Hills and Lincoln VFW Post 3010 for inviting me to be a part of the fun! Hobby Friendly Senator Ted Gaines 6

7 WHEATLAND CAR SHOW Every year car shows seem to grow and the Wheatland Show did just that! From around cars last year, to approximately cars this year. Car Shows located in the downtown area are the best venues, we all know that from our Downtown Lincoln Show. Craig & Tami & friends sure know how to put on a great show. They reserved spaces for our cars, we had 17 car members at the show, not a bad turnout. There was shade all behind our cars, the pancake & sausage breakfast was great; just a good all-around day. Congratulations to the following members whose cars won awards: Dennis Malone, Bob Fish, Ralph Garcia, Dan Larsen, Rich Ragan, Al Alves, Murrill Conley & a BIG CON- GRATULATIONS to EMILIE RIGHETTI, her 1949 Ford won BEST OF SHOW. Her car will be on the Wheatland Show event T-shirt next year. A great car show in a great setting: nothing better than a car show in the country! Thanks again to Craig & Tami. Congratulations to those bringing home trophies from the Wheatland Car Show. Left to Right, Bob Fish, Dan Larsen, Rich Ragan, Alan Taylor, Dennis Malone, Murrill Conley, Emilie &Gary Righetti, and Ralph Garcia. All the cars were winners and everyone had a good time and that is what really counts. 7
