2 From the Director s Chair Ed & Jeanette Carr, FL1-K Chapter Directors Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to All This is the time of year to celebrate. The year is coming to an end, and for a lot of us, we celebrate the fact that we ve made it another year of riding our beautiful iron steeds (Mostly Plastic). We have seen another wonderful year pass as members of the outstating family of GWRRA. We are very fortunate to have such a grand family. There are not many places, in the continuous United States, that Jeanette & I can go without running into someone we know, have met, or is a member of GWRRA. That for us is one of the most important parts of this organization. The best part of GWRRA, according to Me, is the Chapter participants and Chapter Life. The people who are members and participate with our Chapter are the very best - going on Chapter rides, to Chapter & District Rallies, participating in our Lotto Dinners and Tire Kicks at local restaurants, and many of the activities available to GWRRA Members in our Chapter. One of those activities is the Holly Hill Christmas Parade we participated in on 1 December We were there alongside our sister Chapter FL1-H Daytona Beach and other Chapters, displaying our bikes and trikes and Gordon & Betty Curry even entered their Mercedes Convertible all decked out in Christmas decorations. Thank you, Don & Judi Black, Rock-N-Bob & Rainie Ingenito, Bill Mann, Jim Butler, Albert & Dianna Cisson, And Dan & Denise Verano for joining us in the parade. We displayed as many of our countries flags as we could carry. It was a glorious and very patriotic display. At our Chapter Christmas party, with 30 + members attending we all very much enjoyed the social hour from 6 to 7pm, and the choices of prime rib, chicken and fish for dinner at 7pm. Then came fun and games with the Chinese Gift Exchange and the Dinner Lotto Prize with in the pot and the annual tradition of naming our new Couple of the year. Thank you, Don & Judi Black, outgoing Chapter Couple of the Year, for doing such a wonderful job as Ambassadors. Remember that, though we have a new Chapter Couple of the Year, that you will always be a Couple of the Year. And now for the news that everyone has been waiting for - the new couple who have tirelessly worked for GWRRA for many, many years; who do not know how to say no; and are always Ambassador s for their Chapter. The new Couple of the Year is Gary & Ruth Sober. Congratulations Gary & Ruth. We hope you are making plans to attend the Florida District Rally, March 21, 22 & 23, at the Altamonte Springs Hilton. Information about Hotel and Rally registration are on the District gwrraflorida.com. You have until Dec 15, 2018 to get the GWRRA price for rooms at the Hilton for the Chapter Conference in January. 3 Flagler County Resource Center Food Bank Update Ruth Sober, Sunshine Lady, and Gary Sober, Webmaster It was with grateful hearts that we delivered your November gifts of food to the Flagler County Resource Center's Food Bank. You all donated stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, cartons of broth, cans and boxes basic foods, 382 lbs. plus! The plus refers to the turkeys and hams purchased with donated dollars. Food Bank Director, Bette Rountree has promised to give us a total on poundage of purchased meat, but we don't have that figure at this writing. All TV stations focused on turkey and holiday food giveaways at Thanksgiving. You all watched this yourselves! Did you notice a large percentage of those waiting in line were seniors? This is certainly true of the recipients in line at the FCRC's Food Bank. We hear stories of drive-up food give-a-ways in Volusia County where one simply drives up to a distribution site and receives a big box of foodstuffs. Well, the operation we support isn't that flush with donations and Flagler County recipients have to declare their residency and need and leave their identities with the volunteer at the intake counter. But rest assured, these people are truly qualified for the "hand up, not a hand out". Thank you, Brothers and Sisters of Chapter K. You are definitely the best! Merry Christmas, from us to you all! 5 District Ride Educators Well, praise the Lord and pass the jackets. (You thought I was going to say ammunition, huh?) I ve said before I am an advocate for watching the weather and I see we do have some cooler days ahead, finally. Sooooo, that means we need to be smart and dress accordingly, right? Of course, right! After all we are in Florida. That means the mornings may be a bit chilly but, when that sun gets above our visor sight line the heat is on and the layers may need to come off. Yes, layer your clothing accordingly to the ride you may be going on. If it s a morning ride you may not need too much to get you through the day. If it s just a lunch ride your normal riding attire may be what is needed. If it s an evening dinner ride, keep in mind with this time change, dark thirty is around 5:30-6pm so, it s going to cool down pretty quick. Plan ahead if your going on an all day adventure. Yes I know, I m preaching to the choir but, please just use common sense and be safe. The whole idea is to have FUN but my concern is for you to be safe so you can enjoy your rides and have even more FUN! As we are into the season of Holiday Cheer I would like to caution everyone to be exceptionally vigil while out and about whether on your bike, car or truck.
