2 Chapter FL1-H Page 2 Our Couple of the Year ON April 21 st we went to Bunnell for Lunch there were 15 members attending, ran into rain on the way home but all in all we had a great time. On April 28th we met at location #1 and all drove to Chapter FL1-K rally, brought home some prizes. Ron Rhea Desrosiers 2

We will have the nominees of which we heard from four agencies in our area. We will have the wives of the officers, and their Commanding Officers present. As we were selecting the Officer Of The Year, it was very hard to make a selection. Each Officer Did an outstanding job for their department and to pick one Officer for our area was a hard selection. In our eyes each one of them is a winner to represent their departments. I want to thank Linda and Jim for their hard work and all the details that go in to the Officer of the Year selection. Please don t miss this month s meeting it will be a great event and one you will not want to miss. Chapter H has the honor of being the first Chapter in Florida to start this award and we are very proud of it. We have been having some great weather for our riders, so if you have missed them, check our calendar. Don t forget our Mother s Day ride, we are going to Clark s Fish camp in Manderian and it is a great place to go. We went up to Chapter K s Rally last weekend and had a great time, they had a great rally, food, games and lots of great prizes. We had a couple of ladies in our Chapter that took home a lot of game prizes. Thanks to everyone at K great job!! Please keep in mind if you have not signed up yet the Cruise on November 4th. 4 Chapter FL1-H Page 4 Joining and Belonging Jerry Wells May is the month that we honor our Motor Officers We send invitations to all local police departments that have Motor Officers. They can nominate one of theirs to become our Motor Officer of the year. All nominations are reviewed by your chapter officers and one is selected. His name goes on a traveling plaque that lists every officer that ever received the title of Motor Officer of the year. This plaque is displayed in his department s lobby for a year. He individually receives a plaque and a monetary award plus of course bragging rights over all his fellow Motor Officers. All of the nominees, their supervisors, and significant others are invited to our May gathering where the selection is announced. We have also had Senator Dorothy Hukill present to help with the honors and present the winner with a state proclamation. Senator Hukill has been coming to our May gathering for several years now. She first came when I was a Chapter Director. Before the gathering started I warned her that we were an equal opportunity organization. No one was exempt from being picked on. We sure did. After the gathering she informed me that she had more fun than any meeting she had been to in a long time. I guess that was true because she has been back many times. Be sure to be there and get in on the fun. We only do it once a year. This year on Mother s Day weekend we have a ride to Clark s Fish Camp in Jacksonville. If you have never been there this is one you don t want to miss. Even if you have been there you don t want to miss it. This place is an experience. I won t spoil the surprise for you but just know that it is a different kind of a restaurant. Their menu has some items you won t find in every restaurant. I don t want to scare you off. It is all good and they have all of your favorites also. You will spend most of your time checking out their decorations. You will kick yourself later if you miss it. 5 Chapter FL1-H Page 5 Never Ride Faster than Your Angel Can Fly Trevor Simpson Ride Educator Well our big trip started off great, our first stop was a small campground between Biloxi and gulf port MS. We rode the bike down to Bourbon street, it was great The next day things started to go down hill. I broke a strap inside the trailer that keeps the trike from going side to side, guess what the trike went to one side just a pain to get out of the trailer. Next just into Texas we pulled into the Texas welcome center, Carol looked at the trailer wheels and one was shredded so we had to find a station and get a new tire at 75 dollars. The next day we parked downtown San Antonio to see the Alamo, it was so busy we decided to skip that so we rode back to the motorhome only to find some person walking away. Carol called out to him "What are you doing " he started to run away with about four bags of our stuff. Carol called to me and i went after him on the trike, after about 15 minutes or so I lost him in one of the parking lots. Went back to where Carol was,she called the police after an hour I decided to take a walk to see if I could find him. Ran into two more police and told them what happened, they said that they new that the call was sent in so they called it in again, by the time I got back to the motorhome the police were there and they took the report The only damage I had to the motorhome was the lock had been ripped out so the cost for that has still to be determined. Any more bad luck and we will be coming home soon. Sorry I will not be at May meeting it should be a good one. I have the new bike tickets so if anyone wants they will be ready when I get back in June My best from Texas and beyond. Carol and Trevor 5

9 Welcome to the Month of May! Up north they have still been experiencing SNOW! Good thing we all live in Florida, The FUNshine State! May is extra important because it is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Let s all try to be a little safer and teach others, on two and in four wheels, to Watch Out for Motorcycles! There are a whole bunch of GWRRA Rallies and Events happening in May. Cheryl and I encourage you to get out and support our GWRRA Chapters and Districts while having FUN all at the same time! In Florida, on Cinco de Mayo, FL1-H2 has their Double Points Gathering! Cliff Hotchkiss, no margaritas or cerveza at the Gathering please! On Saturday, May 12th, FL2-D has their Taco Tuesday on a Saturday Rally! Join Harry and Lynn Anderson for an excellent time in Sebastian. Don t forget to get out and support our Florida Chapters at their Gatherings and Rides and take advantage of the Visitation Program. That is a true Chapter Support Program! Outside of Florida, the South Carolina District Rally is May 3rd 5th in Newberry, SC. Cheryl and I are going and look forward to their Mayberry RFD theme. The Alabama District Rally is May 17th 19th in Mobile, AL. Cheryl and I won t be able to attend that rally; but I know there will be great Florida District representation there! Cheryl and I will be at the Pennsylvania District Rally near Pittsburg, PA, while Alabama is having FUN. Besides Chapter Visitations in April, I attended the Tennessee District Rally Spring Fling in Pigeon Forge, TN, April 12th 14th! They had beautiful weather and everyone had a great time. The Dolly Parton Dinner Show on Saturday night was a hoot. I was voluntold to go up on stage and participate in a Scottish game of golf, Kilt and all! You can see the game on several videos and photos that were posted on Facebook. Good news is: I WON! Cheryl had to work a festival at home that weekend, so I just did a quick trip up and back in the truck. Turns out that was a good thing, as I drove home Sunday in torrential rain and hail. Ducks and frogs were even hiding from that one! On April 21st, Chapter FL2-O, Stuart, had a 35th Anniversary Luncheon I attended. Congratulations to all of them for making the Chapter thrive and continue on for 35 years! The month ended with Chapter FL1-K s Wild West Goldwing Round-up Rally, on April 28th, in Flagler Beach! As of this writing, it hasn t happened yet, but Cheryl and I will be there. Rick Northrop will be bringing the new PURPLE Goldwing Raffle Tickets to distribute so put in a request to him to bring as many as you can handle to pick up there. Rick Buck will be bringing some 2019 District Rally Flyers, so be sure to get some to pass out and fill out to get in your registration early for both the rally and the hotel! Hope to see you there! I would like everyone to do the District a favor. If you know of or run into some vendors you would like to see at your Florida District Rally, please get their information and pass it on to Jeff and Lisa Duffey or refer them to the Florida District Website and to get the vendor information. We are always looking for quality vendors to add to our list of offerings at the rally. Remember to keep the date of October 6th for the first Florida District Fall Ride- In! Each department should be very proud of the dedication to service these excellent officers display. This is our 22nd year of honoring those who help keep us safe. We have been working with the area communities to improve motorcycle safety for everyone who rides. The respect and enthusiasm we have received from the different law enforcement departments for our Goldwing family, was very humbling. We have no idea just how much we are observed during our everyday riding and events we attend and host. So a huge shout out to all FL1-H family. May is motorcycle awareness month and we will be out and about promoting our chapter and the GWRRA motto Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge. See you on the highways and byways.
