1 March 2012 Presidents Message The time is here once again! Our 66 (sixty six) DAY MARATHON!!!! I know I say this every year but I call it the 66 day marathon because each of us in the Club will be going a hundred miles an hour for the first half of the hot rod season. From now till the end of STREAK39 is 66 days. For me, the official start of car show season starts with Midnight at the Oasis in Yuma, Arizona. I don t know about you but I am glad it s here and starting. Between now and the STREAK, the members of this Club will be attending some of the best shows around. Local shows almost every weekend pick up the pace along with the big shows like Del Mar, NSRA Bakersfield and the STREAK. All within 66 days! Cruise Nites start picking up with the start of Escondido soon, then El Cajon, La Mesa and it will actually never end till November. Time sure flies and before you know it the L.A. Roadster show will be here. The Big3 has already come and gone. But I understand some of you came back with a wad of money. For the first time in 12 years, I missed Midnight at the Oasis and boy am I bummed and I will be missing NSRA Bakersfield as well. Missing them will be worth it because I am sinking every penny into the 1500 square foot garage I am having built. So I have to constantly remind myself it is all worth it. The NSRA Fellow Pages will include our Club again this year. I submitted member information who wanted to be part of the fellow pages. I always like to see our members in this type of book. You guys are my hero to put yourself in the fellow pages because you are offering to come to a hot rodders aid in times of crisis. The OTHG,SD will have a CLUB PUTT on Saturday March 10th. We will leave West Hills HS parking lot at We will arrive at the Craftsman Museum 3190 Lions Head Ave, Carlsbad at around We will also visit the Sherline Products factory at 3235 Executive Ridge, Vista which is only a 5 minute and a one mile drive from the museum. After the tour, we will meet at RUBY'S restaurant for lunch. If Ruby's is not your preference, there are 5 other restaurants within 50 feet. I will be there with my 32. Some of you have seen me driving around breaking in my new engine. The car may not be pretty right now but it is running! Joe and Paula sure out do themselves each and every time with our Club Putts. Please remember to check where you re scheduled for Del Mar and correct any mistakes while we are a FEW WEEKS away from the show. And how about that STREAK39 committee! They are working hard to make this STREAK the very best. Be sure to look for volunteer sheets to be passed around at the meeting. It is the volunteers that make the show a success so we can t do it without you. Be sure and volunteer. And make sure you register for the show. Flyers will be available at the meeting or you can call or me and I will send you one. We ll see you at the shows and Drive Safe! Ralph

Ralph, Good morning, I m writing to ask if you would let the amazing OTHG know how much Debra and I appreciated the phone calls and cards. What wonderful members we have who are so supportive and caring in time of need. With much appreciation, Bruce & Debra McDowell STREAK 39 UPDATE Hello to all. Well, Streak 39 is closing in on the home stretch and I m very glad to report that everything is going well. Please indulge me as I would like to update everyone on the Streak Committees selected charities/progress. First, the committee voted to keep Freedom Station as the club s primary charity. Second, the club voted on the San Diego Rescue Mission as the club s secondary charity. Speaking of which, on President s Day, nine members of the Streak Committee (myself, Glenda, Larry and Denise Hume, Esther Allen, Bob and Suzie Chambers, and Ed and Jan Sawyer) attended a tour of the San Diego Rescue Mission conducted by OTHG member Herb Johnson and his staff. I must say that I was very impressed on how well the Rescue Mission is organized and run. The committee came away with a few short-term goals that I feel the club as a whole could continue to contribute to those less fortunate. Some of the recurring items needed at the Rescue Mission are as follows: baby diapers and formula, travel-type health and comfort items (shampoo, tooth paste, soap, etc.). Other items always needed are men, women, and children clothes. Items can be brought to the meeting(s) where Herb will scoop up the goods and ensure they reach those in need. In closing, the next Streak meeting is on 8 March at Jimmy s in Santee at 7:00pm. This will be the last meeting at Jimmy s. The April meeting is scheduled to be held at Campland by the Bay (date and time TBD). I appreciate the assistance by all of the club and committee members during my snapping in initiation to the club.
5 Thank you, Dennis Griggs Streak 39 Chairman 40 th Anniversary Committee Denise Hume, Chairman Hi Gang! I would like to introduce you to your 40 th Anniversary Committee. They are Guy & Esther Allen, Bob & Susie Chambers, Larry & Denise Hume, Jim Payne, Jo & Paula Pifer, Royce Stephens, and Vince Yamasaki. Any thoughts, concerns, or just plain suggestions can be directed to anyone of the committee members. Your committee met last week and is starting to move forward. The first major decision that was made was that we need to gather all ideas for the Art Work that will represent the OTHGSD 40 th Anniversary. It was also decided that the design had to contain, but not limited too, the following: The Name: The Dates: The Year: Club Cars: Over the Hill Gang San Diego (the word Anniversary to be included) 40 th the view of the two official club cars in the flat view (just like what is on the official club shirt) The art work is to be submitted to any committee member by no later than MAY 1, 2012 for consideration. The artist whose artwork is selected will receive $ for their design. The Committees next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 2, 2012 after the regular club meeting at McAllister s. They will be considering the selection of all Art work submitted. If you would like to read the complete minutes of the meeting please me, Denise Hume and I will send you a copy. 40 th Anniversary Idea s from Bob Snoen Well the 40 th Anniversary of the club is coming up. I myself was thinking that Jim and Bonnie Stieger have a 1940 Ford Convertible. I feel it would be a nice gesture that their car was on the TShirt. They have been members for 35 years and have done lots for the club. If it wasn t for Bonnies health, it would be a foregone fact they would still be at it. How nice of them to get recognition for being such good members. Jim has always been very helpful to any club member who might need advice or help with a project. Bonnie, her personality at one time was always a friend to all who came in touch with her. So this I feel puts them at the top for all that might be said about our great club. Thanks, Bob Snoen
