1 Cruise News March President s Message Hi Gang! Everett does not like me announcing birthdays and anniversaries out loud at the meetings, so I m putting it in my President s Message instead. WARNING TO EVERETT, don t read this paragraph!! February just passed and Larry & I celebrated our 37 th wedding anniversary (at the Big 3) and with March I get another year older. Be sure wish me a Happy Birthday! 34!! (x 2) For those of you that are going to MATO in Yuma, I wish you good weather. You never know what the desert will bring you. Larry & I have been in rain, sand storms (pitted our front window), and yes Phil & Karen s favorite SNOW! They had to hide under a bridge until it stopped so they could see out any window. For those of you who have never been to MATO you will love it! Be sure and wear you yellow shirt, so they know the OTHGSD is alive and well! The Big 3 was in town. What a great event. I love seeing all of you out and about hunting for the great deal of the day. You can just about find anything you need or find someone that knows someone who has what you need. I look forward to this event every year. Next year plan on coming down to the Q and stop by space #WC and say Hi to Jay & Linda, Curt & Marie, and Larry & his Birthday Girl! Thanks to all of you that gave me your name for the NSRA Fellow Pages. I submitted all your information. You guys & gals are my hero s to step-up and include yourself. T. H. G. MEETING Minutes for February 5, 2014 Called to order: 7:00 PM by Denise Hume, President Adjourned: 8:00 PM Guests/Visitors: Welcome Phillip owner of a 47 Chevy Sedan Delivery. Daniel and Melisa from the YMCA Youth and Family Services came to tell us about their program and how monies donated by our club are used to help children and families. They said about 40% of grandparents are raising a grandchild with only their social security income. This is the charity that the Street Masters supports with their Christmas Cruise Toy Drive every December. OTHGSD has supported the Street Master event for many years with a cash donation and members bringing toys to the event. Minutes: The reading of last months minutes waived, approved as is, M/S/P. Treasurer s Report: Treasurer, Sue Chambers read the treasurer s report. M/S/P Treasurers report approved by the members in attendance. New Members: None. Correspondence/Car Club Council: The club received 3 letters of appreciation. One was from San Diego Rescue Mission, thanking us for our support and donation in 2013 of $9, With the letter was a Certificate of Appreciation. The second letter was from Street Masters thanking us for our continued support of their Christmas Cruise toy drive to help the YMCA Youth and Family Services kids. OTHGSD gave a $ donation to the YMCA Youth and Family Services thru Street Masters. The last letter was from Petco in Chula Vista, thanking us for bringing our cars and supporting their 4 th annual event Unleashed. Jim Payne went over some legislative information he learned at the CCC meeting and reviewed with the members some future car shows. Streak Report: Bill Hogue needs volunteers to work the front gate. Please let him know if you re interested. Next meeting is Thursday, 2/13. Medical Report: Bob O Neil broke his knee cap. Didn t hear how but praying he heals quickly. Old Business: Denise said that the items collected for San Diego Rescue Mission filled a 20 foot truck. Many members said they still had more stuff to donate so Denise will plan another collection drive. Martin Hibsch announced that the Goodguys work schedule was complete. Thank you to Mildred and Andre who volunteered again to host the hospitality lunch Saturday. New Business: Denise proposed to the members the possible purchase of a projection system to be used as a visual aid and to share pictures of the club events. She will look into the cost and bring it up again at a later date. Club Store: Closed. Club Putt/Tech Night: Joe Pifer is in the process of scheduling a tech night in March. He will be meeting with the prospective tech night sponsor end of February to firm it up. Mike Newell asked for a show of hands of those that would be interested in a club run to the Midway and a tour. Runs/Reviews: Ray Lake s race car was featured in Hot Rod Deluxe magazine with a nice article and pictures. Cars & Parts: Were announced. Raffle: 50/50 Raffle raised $ Dennis Griggs was the lucky winner of $ in this month 50/50. The other half was given to the McAllister Institute for the use of their hall. 4 BOARD NEWS PROCEDURE FOR REQUESTING CLUB FINANCIAL SUPPORT Numerous club members spoke with Ralph and myself about the Board presenting a new Operating Procedure on how to request club money. Your Board is making the following recommendation and will present it to the membership at the March meeting for clarification only. At the April meeting we will discuss any changes if necessary and ask you for a motion and approval. At this time we will take a ballot vote as per our old Bylaws. Hopefully this will give you time to talk to each other. Existing Operating Request for Club Money (from July 2, 2008 minutes): Whenever we have a guest speaker who is representing an organization that would like the club to make a monetary donation to their cause or event. The request will be tabled for a minimum of two (2) months before it will be voted on by the club. An emergency request can be approved, unanimously, by the board. New Request for Club Money: All requests for the club to donate money will be submitted in writing on the appropriate form (see Club Treasurer for form). Request for over $ will be presented to the members at a regular scheduled meeting. The request will then be added to the next club meeting agenda for consideration of the members present. The request will also be placed in the next monthly newsletter informing all club members of the vote to be taken place at that meeting. A 2/3 ballot vote of the members present will be required for passage.
