2 President s message PRESIDENTS MESSAGE APRIL 2019 GOSH, April already! It seemed like yesterday was March. Probably because our April meeting is very early in the month. Speaking of the April meeting, remember this is the last general membership meeting before our May Central valley Classic. Please do your best to attend this meeting. With the changes to the Friday Night BBQ, and Saturday show being implemented this year, the member workload should be reduced compared to last year. However, Show Chair Ron Berglund is staying very busy over seeing all the behind the scene facets to insure this year s show is another success. Most Vice-chairpersons (VC) will remain the same with just a few changes. Each VC will be looking for volunteers to help on Friday Night and Saturday. THERE WILL BE SIGN UP / VOLUNTEER SHEETS being passed around at the meeting. Please sign up to help take some of the burden off of the VCs. With the number of pre-registered entries exceeding last year s number( at this date), and the huge number of Hotel Rooms already booked, all factors seem to be pointing to a show that will meet or surpass last year s success. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FOR FEBRUARY 11, 2019 MEETING APPROVED AS WRITTEN. JOEL GARRETT GAVE THE TREASURER'S REPORT. THE REPORT WAS ACCEPTED AS GIVEN. WE HAVE 29 MEMBERS AND 19 ASSOCIATES. ANDY WILL DELEGATE SOMEONE TO CONTACT OLD MEMBERS AND MEMBERS WHO HAVEN'T PAID THEIR DUES. NEWSLETTER REPORT WAS GIVEN BY JOHN BERGLUND, IF YOU HAVE PICTURES OF THE CASINO NIGHT AND THE DAYTONA PARTY, PLEASE SENT O JOHN AND BRIAN. WEBMASTER REPORT GIVEN BY BRIAN MASSEY. 4 Minutes FOOD TRUCKS...GINGER REPORTED EVERYTHING IS A GO BRIAN IS ORDERING 150 DASH PLAQUES HOTEL HAS HAD NO COMPLAINTS. T-SHIRTS, FRANK REPORTED MARCH 30 IS THE CUT OFF DATE FOR THE ADS. A THANKS WAS GIVEN TO FRANK'S SON, WHO HAS SAVED US QUITE A BIT OF MONEY WITH ALL OF THE DETAIL WORK HE HAS DONE. TROPHIES, RON REPORTED HE HAS ORDERED 70 TROPHIES AT A COST OF $10.00 EACH T-SHIRT ADS AND SPONSOR LIST REPORT WAS PASSED AROUND TO ALL THE MEMBERS PLUS A FORM FOR THE POCC SHOW SPONSOR REPORT. VENDORS, WE HAVE FIVE AT THIS TIME, THEY ARE PAYING $25.00 EACH RAFFLE GIFTS, IT IS TIME TO LET DAVE VALLA KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE FOR THE RAFFLE. HE WILL NEED HELP THE DAY OF THE SHOW, SELLING RAFFLE AND 50/50 TICKETS. DARROLL WALTER WILL TAKE CARE OF THE COFFEE FOR THE MEMBERS WHO ARE WORKING. OLDS CLUB REPORT WAS GIVEN BY GINGER. BBQ FRIDAY NIGHT MEMBERS GOING WILL RECEIVE A VOUCHER AND THE CLUB WILL DONATE $10.00 A PERSON. HEALTH AND WELFARE: REPORTS GIVEN ON GAYLE HUL, JANET KING AND MIKE KING. DENNIS BAKER IS UNDER THE WEATHER AT THIS TIME. LADIES LUNCHEON, CHERYL REPORTED DIANA HOFF IS OUR MARCH BIRTHDAY GIRL. Pontiacs of Central California Mission Statement: OUR MISSION, FUN! We are made up of a group of people with various backgrounds who have one thing in common, we LOVE Pontiacs. We drive 'em, work on 'em, polish 'em, restore 'em, break 'em (even cuss 'em) and have a lot of fun doing it. Be it an old '52 Chieftain straight-eight, a new WS6 Trans Am, or anything in between. We are individuals, couples, and families that like to get together for a variety of activities. We host an annual judged car show and participate as a club in other local and regional car shows. We have informal BBQ Show and Shines and get together for Brunch and Dinner Cruises. We also attend the local Cruise Nights as a group. The cars in the club range from Concours cars, daily drivers, drag racers and cars undergoing restoration. Our goal is to have FUN while enjoying our Pontiacs. 6 Ladies Luncheon Our March POCC Birthday gal Diana Hoff selected the Old Spaghetti Factory for this month s Ladies Luncheon. The Ladies had a great time chatting with each other while enjoying Tasty Italian Food!!! Happy Birthday! 6

7 Hello everyone: Central Valley Classic Reminder As I am sure you all know, our annual car show will take place on May fourth. As usual will be holding a raffle as part of the show and we will be needing raffle prizes. Please let me know if you will be contributing a raffle prize with a brief description of the item and donor information if the prize was a contribution from a business or an outside source. Last year we also held a silent auction which was received quite well so we would like to hold one again. If anyone has anything that would make a good silent auction item or would like to put together a gift basket of some sort please let me know. Thanks! Dave Valla: POCC 2019 Raffle Chairman 7

8 A Cruise down Old 99 On Saturday, March 16, 2019, twelve POCC members cruised along a road of history, Golden State Blvd. which was historic Highway 99. From our starting point in Fowler, we traveled a few miles through Selma and then Kingsburg, checking out some relics of the highways glory years in the 30 s through the 60 s. Well s Fine Cars, Garage and Wrecking Yard in Selma is worth a stop for any car junkie traveling down new 99. The old signs and deteriorating buildings make a great backdrop for photographs with classic cars (we didn t have many given the weather). Joel and Scotty Garrett made the most of the opportunity with some great shots under the used car sign. Then we continued south through Selma and discovered the Motel Selma whose sign promoted TV s, Freeway Lanes and Roscoe s Dogs, a great place to eat that is housed in a former Flying A gas station from the 30 s or 40 s. After a brief stop in downtown Kingsburg, we cruised east of town and took a brief side trip down 21 st street which has to be one of the prettiest avenues of trees and old houses in the valley. 8

9 All the Good Stuff was Gone, Not a Pontiac in Sight at the Abandoned Wrecking Yard. Everyone enjoyed the Ramirez Garage and the Extensive Collection of Memorabilia. 9

11 Ronnie & Ritchey were ready for a ride on the GTO Sled (must have been a Dealer Option!) 11 A few miles further on, we arrived at Ronnie Ramirez s garage. Ronnie is a real car guy who loves anything automotive and owns a fair amount of stuff. His 3200 square foot shop is filled with gas pumps, tool boxes, and vintage and recreated signs, a reproduction of a vintage gas station restroom, along with bicycles, automotive equipment, cars, and just good stuff. He also invited us to see his original Richfield Gas Station that he saved from the wrecker s ball in Reedley and rebuilt on his back lot. We also got a look at his collection of red cars and additional neat stuff in his garage. Ronnie was a very gracious host who, by the way, called us the next day and thanked us for coming to his place! We are invited back anytime we want as he loves to share his collection and passion for anything automotive. The cruise finished up at The Main Street Café in Reedley, always a great place to have good food (and great pies and cakes if you have the room). Thanks to all who attended including Paula and Tom Yost, Joel and Scotty Garrett, Ron and Willa Berglund, Brian Massey, Mark and Suenell Tordini, and Richard Burroughs.
