2 President s Message I just got back from dropping my son Scott off at LAX for his two week visit to Japan to see his brother. I really don t have much of a problem driving LA Freeways and enjoy the wide variety of exotic cars you see driving down there on a daily basis. This trip, we not only saw many super expensive and state of the art BMW s, Benz,s, Porcshe s, and Ferrari s, but we actually saw someone driving a new Dodge Challenger. You know, the retro looking one that looks similar to a 1970 Challenger. This one had Michigan license plates and was probably being tested by an automotive journalist that works down there. I have to say the car did look sweet. I bet the Challenger was getting more looks than the other exotics, but that s only my opinion. I bring this up, because it made me think of all the people who drive these special cars and the people (us) who ENVY the people who drive these cars. Envy is an interesting concept. We all envy someone else to one degree or another. The short guy envies the tall guy, the poor guy envies the rich guy, the fat guy envies the skinny guy. Its just human nature. However, I doubt any one of us would really trade places with that other person (even if we could), because there is always that personal baggage we all carry, and ours may be way lighter than theirs. I have thought a lot about this (sitting in LA traffic) and I came up with an idea for a short film to express my thoughts. I have no movie making skills, so I ask you all to picture the following story as a movie you are watching in a theater. The lights go down and you better turn off your cell phone!!! Continued page 3... ENVY A movie by Joel Garrett SCENE ONE: A young man (Bill) about 16 years old walking along a rural two lane road. He is dressed in K-Mart brand clothes. Clean but well used. He is passed up by another young man on a skateboard. As he is walking we can hear his Bill s thoughts, Man, look at that guy go on that skate board. If I save my allowance, maybe I can get one of those by Summer. Minutes of May 12, 2008 Meeting The meeting was called to order at 7:05pm. There were no guests present. As the minutes of the April meeting were not in the newsletter, copies of the minutes were passed around for review prior to the meeting starting. The April minutes were approved. The Treasurer s report was presented by Dennis Baker. The club has 36 regular members and 10 associate members. A Newsletter report was given by Sam Fisher. Brian Massey gave a Webmaster report. If you have pictures that you want posted get them to Brian and he will post them. Old Business Kurt Gunderson gave an update on the Governor s plan to close state parks. Apparently the Governor is still going ahead with his plan. More will be known after May 15 th. There was no new business to discuss. Past Activities -The Kingsburg Car Show was a good show. The club members that participated were allowed to park together on one of the side streets. -The Kitahara Show was a very good show with about 300 cars. -The Cayucos Show and the P.O.C.C. Bar B Q were both a success. The car show had about 700 entrants and the P.O.C.C. Bar B Q had plenty of good food. Bill Truckell thanked Judy for all her hard work of preparing the food and the club thanked Bill for allowing the club the use of his house again. Upcoming activities -The Rockin Rod Car Show will be Saturday, June 14 th. -The Dinuba Car Show will be June 14 th. Continued page

As he is skating we can hear Frank s thoughts, Man, look at that guy go on that bicycle. If I save my lawn mowing money, maybe I can get a bicycle by Summer. SCENE THREE: We are now following the guy on the bicycle (Joe) as he is passed by a guy on a Moped. As he is peddling we can hear Joe s thoughts, Man, look at that guy go on that Moped. If I save my paper route money, maybe I can get a Moped by Summer. SCENE FOUR: We are now following the guy on the Moped (Jack) as he is passed by a guy on a Honda Motorcycle. As he is putting along we can hear Jack s thoughts, Man, look at that guy go on that Honda. If I save my McDonalds money, maybe I can get a Honda by Summer. SCENE FIVE: We are now following the guy on the Honda (Ken) as he is passed by a guy on in a VW beetle. As he is riding along we can hear Ken s thoughts, Man, look at that guy go in that Bug. If I save my Walmart salary, maybe I can get a VW by Summer. SCENE SIX: We are now following the guy in the VW (Ron) as he is passed by a guy on in a New Chevy 4X4 pickup.. As he is riding along we can hear Ron s thoughts Man, look at that guy go in that 4X4. If I save my Teachers salary, maybe I can get a 4X4 truck by Summer. SCENE SEVEN: We are now following the guy in the 4X4 (Carl) as he is passed by a guy on in a new Corvette. As he is riding along we can hear Carl s thoughts Man, look at that guy go in that Vette. If I cash in some of my 401K, maybe I can get a Vette by Summer. SCENE EIGHT: We are now following the guy in the Vette (Keith) as he is passed by a guy in a Ferrari. As he is riding along we can hear Keith s thoughts Man, look at that guy go in that Ferrari. If my rich uncle kicks off soon, maybe I can get a Ferrari by Summer. FINAL SCENE: We are now following the guy in the Ferrari. ( Bob) as he passes Bill (from Minutes continued... -Chubby s Cruise Night Sean Ford wants to have a Pontiac Night on one of the Chubby s Saturday shows. There will be an add in the Bee to announce the date and Greg Griggs will be selecting the date -The Kingsburg monthly show is May 30 th and is always the last Friday of the month. -The Chowchilla Chamber of Commerce Show will be Sept. 13 th starting at 8am. The 2008 Regional Convention and Show Ren passed around samples of what the event program will look like. It was very nice. Ren is also working with Chukchansi and the North Fork Rancheria for maybe a shuttle for Thursday and/or Friday. Judy Garrett will be passing around a signup sheet for a work for the Regional. Ron Berglund and Dennis Baker looked at some samples of trophies for the regional. As there was no further business to discuss, the attendance drawing was held. The winner of $10 was Dennis Simonson. He probably doesn t have a care in the world. He doesn t have these huge car payments on this damn Italian money pit. Not to mention the insurance. And walking is suppose to be good exercise so I could probably loose these extra 40lbs I am carrying around, not to mention my heart condition and my ulcers from worrying about the damn stock market. If I could, I would trade places with that young man in a minute. THE END 3

4 Annual Trip To Cayucas We had a wonderful time on the coast trip. Judy and Bill, as usual, were the perfect host. And we have to thank them once again for opening their home to the club and hosting this event. Pictures and narriation by Paula Yost, who comments This was our first time for the Morro Bay trip and I am definitely ready to go again.. O yes, how do you like this picture of me with my new car (I wish). I think it is a 52 or 53 Pontiac. A new couple who joined us for dinner. They are Jim O Callaghan and Gigi Bibeault. You need to ask Dan or Greg what they were driving. I only know it was a loud Pontiac. Jim and Gigi may soon be joining the club. 4

5 We drove up to Ragged Point. The scenery was beautiful but the weather was a little chilly. We also saw hundreds of Elephant Seals. O, I almost forgot, we saw hundreds of cars at the show in Morro Bay as well as thousands of people. As you can see, Paula is more into taking pictures of people than cars. but then our club is about people as well as the cars so this may be a wecome relief to some of you. Thanks again to Paula for taking the time to send me her pictures and comments about our most popular cruise. 5

6 Upcoming Events (POCC Club events are in bold). POCC monthly meetings are held at the Yosemite Falls Cafe, Highway 99 and Ashlan. Meetings start at 7:00 pm. May 30th: Kingsburg Car show. How about we meet (for those who can) at the Starbuck/ Carls at the Merced St exit off Hwy 99 at 4:30-4:45. For those of you that can t get there that early, let us know your coming and we can try and save spaces for you. June 25th-28th: Western Regional Pontiac/ Oakland Convention: The convention starts on Thursday night and concludes Sunday; all at the the beautiful Pines Resort at Bass Lake. October 13th: General Membership Meeting at the Yosemite Falls Café. 7 Some Solutions To The High Cost Of Gas With the coast of gas hitting and now going over $4.00 per gallon in many places, you might find some of these alternate methods of getting around helpful. Thanks to Jack Fusari for sending these to share. Jack said he would personally pick the sail method for his ride. Question for Dennis Baker, if we modified our Pontiacs over to sail power would they still be considered stock?? Dennis, be prepared, you may have to make a decision or start a new class at the Regionals in September. Stock Or Modified??? This Method Obviously Works Best In The Winter Or Where There Is Year Round Snow The Army May Have To Bring The Calvary Back To Active Duty The Ultimate Electric Vehicle 7

8 Pontiacs of Central California Officers Pontiacs of Central California (POCC) is a club for owners and lovers of Pontiacs. The club members range from young guys and gals to old guys, who own all types of Pontiacs from the Muscle to the Luxury cars. A few members don t even own Pontiacs, they simply like them. Club dues are $24 per calendar year or $2.00 per month for the remainder of any calendar year. Members must also join the Pontiac/Oakland Club International (POCI). POCI dues are $31 per year and includes a subscription to the POCI monthly magazine - Smoke Signals. The magazine alone is worth the $31. It s full of interesting Pontiac stories, tips on doing Pontiac things, as well as free advertising for members.
