1 8th Annual Clean Up Day Newsletter of the Organization of Water 2011 Trash Totals Year Amount tons tons tons tons tons tons tons tons Citizens Take Charge! The Clean Up Day has evolved and grown over the past few years. In the past eight years, the Organization of Water (CROW) a 10 County Joint Powers Organization aimed at preserving and protecting the and its tributaries, has helped coordinate over 2,061 volunteers in a watershed-wide clean up day to remove over 55.2 tons of trash from miles of shoreline on the and its tributaries. We are very proud of our volunteers, without their determination and tremendous effort, this project would not be successful. Volunteers aren t paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. Anonymous
2 Page 2 Picture Below: This empty beer bottle was found during the Hutchinson Area clean up. On the side of the bottle it says: Save Our Shore This Abita brew is a message in a bottle, a distress signal for the troubled waters of our Gulf Coast. For every bottle sold Abita will donate 75 cents to the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Not something you would typically see around this area!
