1 EAGLE LAKE IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER Fall 2018 Free Annual Summer Picnic 2018 The annual picnic was held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the home of Glen and Lisa Simons on the west side of Eagle Lake. Thanks to the Simons for the use of their yard for the picnic. The meal was catered by Heglund Catering and consisted of pork and turkey sandwiches, beans, potato salad, and ice cream. 3 Fall Leaf Pick-Up Saturday, October 27, 2018 The Eagle Lake Improvement Association Board is dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of our lake. We have organized the annual Fall Leaf Pick-Up for all paid members. Details: Stack bagged leaves at the end of your driveway before 8:00 a.m. No bags put out after 8:00 a.m. will be picked up Do not put any garbage in with the leaves We will not accept bags with yard waste or garbage in them We do not accept: Branches, twigs, sticks Grass clippings Flowers, flower pots or soil If you would like to help with the leaf pick-up by donating a truck, trailer or your time, meet at the public access at 8:00 a.m. Call Norm Westby at with questions. Please do not burn leaves on your yard or blow them into the lake. Leaves are one of the largest natural contributors of phosphorus to the lake. Zebra Mussels What to do if you see zebra mussels on your lake equipment Zebra mussels were identified in the northeast area of Eagle Lake in August As you take out your lake equipment this fall, please use the following as a proper procedure to use if you see zebra mussels on your lake equipment. Zebra Mussel Identification Take a picture of the zebra mussels or contact an Eagle Lake board member promptly so that we may come over to record the AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species). Our board member Glen Simons will deliver the information to proper authorities. On-site action to take You don t have to remove zebra mussels found on lake equipment removed from the lake if the equipment will stay on your property. The mussels will dry and die over winter. If you want to remove them, put them in a container which will not be exposed to a water source. Transport action to take Lake equipment which will be stored away from the lake resident property must have the zebra mussels removed before transporting the equipment. If a lake service provider is hired to remove the equipment from the resident site for storage, they must have a permit to transport the AIS contaminated equipment to their facility where they will remove the AIS. Bridge dedicated to the memory of Richard Swenson As a longtime west side Eagle Lake resident, Richard was committed to serving Eagle Lake as a volunteer board member of the Eagle lake Improvement Association for many years. He was also an officer of the Dovre Township board representing more than half of the lake residents in the Eagle Lake community for many years. ************************************************************************* 4

Erik Was President of the ELIA board during the initial talks concerning the installation of a new bridge. Several donations were made to honor him. Memorial donation in the name of Mr. Willy Draheim. ************************************************************************************* Built in collaboration with the MN DNR with donations from Eagle Lake residents, local public agencies and private businesses. *************************************************************************** The bridge at the Eagle Lake outlet over Hawk Creek was a project identified by the Eagle Lake Improvement Association in The bridge was set in place on July 23, Signage will be placed at bridge by Spring A successful private fundraising effort by ELIA with Eagle Lake residents provided visible support for the bridge project. This led to significant donations from public agencies including Dovre Township, Green Lake Township and Kandiyohi County Public Works and also local businesses. With these monies, ELIA worked with the help and direction of MN DNR representatives to complete the project. We now have a complete path around Eagle Lake. 5
