1 LOGBOOK JULY 2016 EAA602.org EAA 602 ADIRONDACK CHAPTER EVENTS July 26 EAA 7:00 Fulton County Airport Dinner starts at 6:00pm Burlington Airshow August 13/14 Photo provided by: Patrick Morris Young Eagles September 10 details to follow President ~ Patrick Morris EAA We had our second airport meeting of the year on June 29 at Fulton County Airport and several where able to fly in again. We made the decision to move it from Tuesday to Wednesday due to weather warnings on Tuesday. John Pashley and Mike Clukey did a fine job with the menu again. We had deluxe chicken sandwiches with all the fixings. If you haven't made a summer meeting yet your missing out. Tim Devine did a safety talk on runway procedures and Stephanie Zwolinski brought some parts from her engine rebuild for show and tell. Very interesting what can be going on in an engine and have it still function. Very scary as well. The big breaking news this month is that the aeromedical reform bill has been signed into law. It is estimated that these reforms will take effect over the next year. Here are some of the key points of what can be flown and what will be required for a private pilot without a third class medical. CONTINUE NEXT PAGE

2 Continued ~ Patrick Morris Up to 6 seats, up to 6,000 lbs (no limitations on horsepower, number of engines, or gear type) Day and Night VFR and IFR Up to 5 passengers Aeromedical Training - Pilots must take a free online course every 2 years Altitude Restrictions - Below 18,000 feet The progress of this bill has already had some impact on the sport pilot world particularly in the value of light sport planes. There has been some discussion on the EAA 602 yahoo group of some unforeseen effects of the bill. Things like the devil is in the details and be careful what you wish for. We will have to see how this all pans out as the implementation of the bill rolls out from the FAA and what it really means for the pilot community. News and discussion of this topic is one of the great reasons to stay in touch with other members on our Yahoo Group. Also this month we had a good discussion on flight reviews and many postings with a heads up on some good aviation deals. If you haven't joined yet you will find a link on our club home page. See you all at the meeting on July 26th. Fly in if you can and bring your appetite for this months menu. Let's get some group fly outs going. Most of us still have to try out the new restaurant at Glens Falls. Maybe we can plan a lunch or even a dinner when we get a break from the afternoon heat we have been having. I am looking for a good evening to head over to Saratoga for some ice cream at Mr. Bills. It is a less than ten-minute walk around the corner from the airport. 3 Photo provided by: Shelli Saupe Vice-President ~ Tim Devine Cortland Airfest 2016 I am always looking for new places as a flying destination, so when I saw the posting for Cortland s (N03) Airfest on upstate list it caught my attention. The airfest had all the requisite qualifications, it was a doable distance, they were serving food, they had fuel, and their runway could accommodate any of our chapter members aircraft. So early in the week I put out a request to see if anyone was interested in heading west on Saturday the 16th to check it out. I didn t hold out high expectations as it was in competition with the monthly Cooperstown get together which is very popular and familiar to our chapter members. I was pleasantly surprised when Pat Morris, Mike Clukey, Chris Brown and Darryl White all responded that they would be interested in attending. So as the week progressed and the weather looked doable we decided to give it a shot. Chris Brown and I planned on departing at 07:00, to be followed by Pat at 07:30 which would hopefully put us all out at N03 around the same time. Needless to say when my phone chirped at 6:40 with a message from Kelly that they were wheels up I nearly walked into my wing in surprise. It seems that Kelly told Darryl to get his sorry butt out of bed at 05:30 Cause it was time to go flying. By the time Chris and I formed up over route 29, Darryl and Kelly had already crossed the Mohawk headed west. Mike got a later start and weather at Schenectady forced Pat to turn around, but as we progressed west the cloud deck began to lift and visibility improved and headwinds slackened. So at approximately 08:15 for the first time in my recollection Darryl and Kelly were the first to land at our selected designation. Chris and I landed shortly after and Mike arrived about a half hour later. CONTINUE NEXT PAGE

4 Continued ~ Tim Devine This was a very nicely done event. The breakfast was excellent, instead of pancakes there was a selection of different flavor egg casseroles accompanied with fresh fruit, mini croissants, coffee and juice. There was plenty of seating in the main hanger with a full view of the ramp. Once done with breakfast there was plenty to see. The National Warplane Museum was on site with their C-47, Antonov Biplane and Beech Bamboo Bomber. The local fire department had equipment there for the public to check out, and helicopter and fixed wing rides were available for a fee. After checking out a number of the vehicle and aircraft displays it was time to head home. Oil levels were checked, fuel was loaded and we all took off for home with a nice tail wind and an enjoyable day of flying to a new destination to enter into our log books. Tim D. The meal will start with John Pashley's heart healthy salad, Mike's homemade spaghetti dinner and fresh Italian bread. Dinner will be served from 6:00-6:45pm with the meeting starting at 7pm. As always, remember to bring a drink and a chair.
