Merit Badge Pow Wow It is a wrap (or almost)! We ve concluded with the 2nd meeting session of the (2) part Merit Badge Pow Wow. Now when I say concluded, I know we didn t get 100% Blue Card completion, so I want to encourage those scouts that have partial completions to stick with completing those remaining requirements and earn that badge. Congrats to those scouts who earned a merit badge. I know it is a lot on your plate to take on learning an occupation, hobby, sport, outdoor activity, or other interest on top of your other scouting activities, school, sports, and family. A huge thank you to the team for putting together and running this event. I know a lot of effort was put towards the planning of the event and in ensuring that the event ran as smooth as it could. Thank you to the Counselors for taking the time out of your schedule to assist the scouts in learning about their interests. Thank you to the Redding LDS Stake for graciously allowing us to use the church facilities for this event. 2 Summer Camp Fun Begins Now! Cub Scout Camping Wild, Wild West Summer Camp Join us at Camp Lassen this summer for a Wild, Wild West action-packed adventure! Activities will include BB Guns, archery, wrist rockets, camp craft, climbing, boating, swimming & more. Special Webelos activities will be offered. Plus, Bears and Webelos can earn their Whittling Chip. Let s build memories at the campfires, during camp wide events, and stargazing fun. Be sure to secure your spot and register today!! Then get your Pack ready for camp by developing Wild, Wild West theme-oriented skits, songs, flags, and attire. Thank you all for the feedback. Your suggestions, concerns, and merit badge requests are being evaluated and will be taken into account for next year s event. 6 2017 Northern Rivers District PWD Championship Just like in NASCAR every year the best of the best come to one track on one date to lay it all on the line. This year in the Northern Rivers District, the Cub Scout units sent their cubs to St. Joseph school to compete in a no-holds-barred drag race (actually there were rules that were followed). There were 35 cars entered in the field and at the end of the day we had (3) cars that crossed the finish line first. Congrats to our top (3) Cubs. 1 st Place: Reed Beeman, Pack 19 2 nd Place: Christopher Rich, Pack 41 3 rd Place: Thomas Koppes, Pack 42 We also want to thank St. Joseph for hosting our event. The facilities are top notch and allow the event to be a success. We also want to thank Youth Program Supporters (YPS) of Shasta, Tehama, and Trinity Counties for putting on an outstanding event. YPS has been running the District PWD for many years. This was their last year of running the PWD. It is with their dedication to the organization that the bar has been set very high for following years, but the template is there to continue to have successful races. Even though YPS is stepping away from this event, they will still be supporting the scouting program with their generous Camperships and other future programs. 6

7 The Klondike this year was a great event, as always. Mother Nature provided us with a lot of snow and chilly nights to camp in. In fact, it got down to around 6 degrees on Sunday morning! Very cold but everyone survived! The weather on Saturday for the games was perfect, though! We had some new and traditional Klondike games like String Burn, Giant Jenga, Search and Rescue, Snow Blind, and others. And of course, we had the traditional Sledge Race! There were some great prizes for the winners, like a Camp Chef 2 burner stove for the Scout Spirit prize, Hot Pots, Lantern, and even an easy up that looks like the American Flag. The winners for the New Patrol in the Klondike games: 1 st Place Duck Tape Patrol Troop 42 2 nd Place Misfits Patrol Troop 15 3 rd Place Black Knights Troop 359 Winners for the Experienced Patrol : 1 st Place Crew 423 from Chico 2 nd Place Green Bar Patrol Troop rd Place Flaming Smores Patrol Troop st Place Winner for the Sledge Race Green Bar Patrol Troop 125 Grand Prize for Scout Spirit went to the Flaming Smores Patrol Troop 154 Congratulations to not only these prize winners, but to all the units for coming out and braving the elements! It was one of the most attended Klondikes in years, with over 180 people in attendance. And a big thank you to the Wintun Chapter of the Order of the Arrow and the Northern Rivers District for a successful and very fun Klondike!
