With the theme of [OITA PRIDE!] Oita city s charm is being introduced on the website and SNS. 大分市は 緑豊かな山々と青い海や川に恵まれた地勢を有し 古くから東九州の要衝として重要な役割を担ってきました 昭和 9 年に新産業都市に指定されて以来 産業集積が飛躍的に進み 平成 7 年の佐賀関 野津原両町との合併を経て 多彩な魅力と活力に満ちた県都として大きく成長してきました 本市では 笑顔が輝き夢と魅力あふれる未来創造都市 を都市像に掲げ 防災 減災対策や教育 福祉の充実など 日々の暮らしに密着した施策を着実に実行するとともに 九州一の製造品出荷額を誇る本市の強みを活かした産業の活性化 さらには 次なる時代を見据えた新たな魅力の創造に取り組んでいます こうした中 08 年には 第 回国民文化祭 おおいた 08 第 8 回全国障害者芸術 文化祭おおいた大会 今年からUCI( 国際自転車競技連合 ) 公認の大会となった OITA サイクルフェス!!!08 09 年には ラグビーワールドカップ 09 などのビッグイベントが開催されます 日本各地や世界各国から多くの人が訪れることから この機会を逃すことなく 本市が持つ魅力の発信に努めてまいります この要覧を通して 本市の現状と将来像をご理解いただき さらなる市勢進展にお力添えいただければ幸いです Blessed with rolling green mountains and blue oceans and rivers, Oita City has played an important role as a key strategic point in eastern Kyushu since ancient times. The designation of Oita City as a New Industrial City in 9 by the central government served as the impetus for rapid growth, transforming it into the industrial hub it is today. With the consolidation of the neighboring towns of Saganoseki and Notsuharu in 00, Oita City has grown into a prefectural capital known for its wideranging appeal and vitality. Under the slogan of A city creating the future full of dreams and charm where smiles shine, the municipal government prioritizes policies directly tied to the improvement of citizens daily lives in the areas of disaster prevention, education, and social welfare. We are additionally proud of Oita City being number one in Kyushu in the value of manufactured goods shipments and aim to utilize our strengths to further activate our industries and create a city that will be attractive to the next generation. A number of largescale events will take place in Oita City in 08, such as the rd National Cultural Festival Oita 08, the 8 th National Art & Culture Festival for Persons with Disabilities, and the 08 Oita Cycling Festival which has been registered as an official UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) cycling race as of this year. Moreover, we look forward to serving as one of the host cities next year for the 09 Rugby World Cup matches. With an influx of spectators from within Japan and around the world traveling to our city, we aim to make the most of the opportunities these events present to showcase Oita City s appeal to as large of an audience as possible.
