In May 2011, install temporary and final dehydrators and start their operation. In September 2011, the research committee submit a report of the restoration policy to Mayor of Sendai city. Decide to rebuild their plant in the same place. In April 2012, start demolishing damaged sewerage facilities. In May 2012, start temporary operations of contact aeration facilities (treatment capability of 300,000 m 3 /day) targeted effluent BOD is below 60mg/L In July 2012, start final rehabilitation. 4 Case example of restoration 2 Abukuma gawa-karyu regional sewerage Ken-nan WWTP in Miyagi prefecture In fiscal year 2011, halves of the first and the fifth wastewater treatment facilities start their normal operation. In April 2012, the second wastewater treatment facilities start their normal operation. In May 2012, the third wastewater treatment facilities start their normal operation. In July 2012, the forth and a half of the first wastewater treatment facilities start their normal operation. The restoration of wastewater treatment facilities in large scale WWTPs with treatment capacity of 100,000m 3 /day has been achieved in just 15 months. 8 Challenge to Reduce Radioactive Substances Contaminated Sewage Sludge Volume(entrusted project from Ministry of the Environment ) Implement the project at Horikawa WWTP in Fukushima city Evaluate effectiveness of volume reduction system for sewage sludge contaminated with radioactive substances (about 8000m3 ) stored in Horikawa WWTP. Joint project of JS, Nippon Steel & Sumikin Engineering Co, Ltd, Mitsubishi Research Institute. Mix and dry sewage sludge contaminated with radioactive substances, temporary stored in reactors with daily produced sewage sludge. Put dry sewage sludge into sealed drums and store them in reactors. In fiscal year 2011 and 2012, conduct a field survey and design, in fiscal year 2013, start operation.
