3 Sharing the arctic spirit! Barents Games is a people-to-people cooperation, which aims to develop friendship through sports in the Barents Region. Cooperation across the four Barents countries gives athletes, coaches, managers and referees the opportunity to share knowledge and experience through international competitions. In addition to sports competitions, Barents Winter Games has an overall goal of developing tolerance and cultural understanding across its borders. 4 Greetings from the mayor of Luleå, Niklas Nordström As the mayor of Luleå, I am very pleased to welcome to our city, no less than 1300 contestants and guests from Norway, Russia, Finland and Sweden to the Barents Winter Games It is important for our youth to meet across national borders to maintain and strengthen our cooperation and friendship. We in Northern Europe and the Barents region have so many common traditions that we are now passing on to the next generation. We are proud to host the Barents Winter Games 2018 here in Luleå. 8 Opening ceremony Time: Friday 16 th of March, 19:00-19:45 Location: On the ice at Norra Hamn (North harbour) The opening ceremony will take place on Friday evening, the official opening of the Games, where we will wish all participants, coaches, managers and invited guests a warm welcome to Luleå and BWG
9 Get together Play together Time: Saturday 17 th of March, 19:30-22:00 Location: Alcatraz a fun playground for everyone! "Get-Together, Play Together" is a social gathering for all participants, coaches, leaders and invited guests. On Saturday night, March 17th at 19:30, we will have fun together at Alcatraz, a brand new, large playground with lots of activities! After a short official ceremony Alcatraz will be open for all participants to play together and get together! Bowling and the Prision Island-adventure will be free of charge for everyone. Gather your friends (or take the chance to meet new friends), form a team and solve the difficulties in 31 prisions cells in Prision Island or play bowling together. Collaborate and have great fun! For other acitivites of your choise there will be a fee according to Alcatraz normal pricelist. It's a good idea to bring money with you if you want to try some of Alcatraz's other offerings.
