3 Greetings from the mayor of Bodø, Ida Pinnerød During the first weekend of September more than 1000 contestants from Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia will be visiting Bodø for the Barents Summer Games of As the mayor of Bodø, I am pleased to welcome all participants to our city, and I hope they will enjoy all it has to offer. The Barents Summer Games event is one of the arenas for cultural and sports exchange in the Barents region. This reinforces the pre-existing foundation we already enjoy with regards to cooperation and friendship. Best of luck to all the participants! 31 Barents Games is a people-to-people cooperation, which aims to develop friendship through sports in the Barents Region. Cooperation across the four Barents countries gives athletes, coaches, managers and referees the opportunity to share knowledge and experience through international competitions. In addition to sports competitions, Barents Games has an overall goal of developing tolerance and cultural understanding across its borders. Opening ceremony During the summer games in Bodø, we wish to invite all participants and guests to these two community events - where you will get the chance to meet athletes of all sports, nations and age groups. Time: Friday 1st of September, 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Bodøhallen (Bodø Spektrum) The opening ceremony will take place on Friday evening, the official opening of the Games, where we will wish all participants, coaches, managers and invited guests a warm welcome to Bodø and BSG The program will include speeches and cultural performances. Get-together Play-together Time: Saturday 2nd of September, 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Location: Bodøhallen (Bodø Spektrum) and Nordlandshallen. The evening starts in front of the stage in Bodo hall, where there will be speeches and a ceremonial handover of the Barents Games flag to next year's organizer. After the official program, the focus moves to the Nordland Hall. We continue with the Get-Together, Play Together, with informal competitions in a variety of activities such as pillow fights, dodgeball, tug of war, skateboard and other fun activities. In addition, there will be opportunities to try many of the sports on show at this year s BSG 2017, including pistol shooting, table tennis, archery, boccia, golf and much more. Make sure to be dressed informal and ready to participate in the activities! Both events hosted by English speaking guest speakers. The program will be interpreted into Russian. 30
