21 I am happy to welcome everybody who loves sports today participants of the Barents Winter Games athletes, organizers and amateurs from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia! Our region has already had some experience in taking part at summer and winter Barents Games. However it is a first time and honour to host Barents Games in the Murmansk region. I am thankful to Barents Secretariat for the confidence and support in organizing the Barents Winter Games It is important to note that this joint project of the Barents region countries emphasizes the main sports principle which is Sports is beyond the Politics and the borders! It is what people used to believe in for many years during sports competitions. The old famous quote by Pierre de Coubertin Oh, Sport, You Are Peace sounds up-to-date again and still important for athletes. Barents Games is a big sports friendship festival whish helps to develop international sport traditions, maintain peace and friendship between the countries. Let the strongest win in fair play! Problems: crossing the border of Finland and Norway with riffles and cartridges; mistakes in the participants lists (family name, name, passport number) invitations for the Norwegian Consulate in Kirkenes and the touristic company in Finland were updated and corrected many times; foreign sportsmen refusal to have a meal in cafes and restaurants.
