2 WELCOME FROM THE OFFICE OF THE AUDITOR GENERAL OF BRITISH COLUMBIA On behalf of the Office of the Auditor General of British Columbia, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 35 th annual CCOLA Conference here in. Our objective is to ensure that the conference is a complete success in terms of the program, discussions, networking and social activities. If there is anything that you require please do not hesitate to let us know. We are excited about this year s conference program. It features greater interaction between CCOLA and CCPAC, with all of Monday being devoted to joint sessions. As has been the case in recent years, the CCAF will be moderating much of Monday morning s joint session. We will also be hosting a number of international guests, including Mr. Rick Stapenhurst of the World Bank Institute and a number of overseas Auditors General and Public Accounts Committee members. This means that during Monday s John Kelly Forum, we will be able to bring an international perspective to our discussions. Our international Auditor General guests will also be observing our business meeting on Tuesday morning. I m pleased to advise that John Doyle, currently the Deputy Auditor General of Western Australia and who will take up office later this year as the new Auditor General of British Columbia, will be attending the conference. So, you ll all have the opportunity to welcome the newest member of our community! With respect to our social program, we are pleased to offer on Sunday the choice of golf at one of our spectacular local courses or a tour of the internationally-renowned Butchart Gardens. There will also be a hosted dinner on Monday evening at the Canadian Maritime Forces Pacific Headquarters, Esquimalt and a harbour cruise on Tuesday evening. For the guests of delegates, we have arranged a Monday bus tour to Chemainus the town of murals followed by a brief tour and lunch at the Merridale Estate Cidery. The bus will also stop at the Malahat lookout where one can take in some spectacular views. We hope that this will give you a flavour of our community and Vancouver Island s natural beauty. Special thanks go to the Planning and Coordinating Committee, Sheila Fraser and Colin Younker, for their suggestions as we developed the business part of the conference. Robert Beaudin has, as usual, provided excellent advice and support to the organizing team. I want particularly to thank Doreen Sullivan and Norma Glendinning of my office for their hard work over recent months. Finally, I must acknowledge the extraordinary commitment on the part of my predecessor, Arn van Iersel, to make this an outstanding conference! My staff and I hope that you find the conference productive and enjoyable and that you will take full advantage of all that beautiful British Columbia has to offer. Sincerely, Errol Price Conference Chair

12 GUESTS PROGRAM 10: 45 am Walking Tour of Chemainus Chemainus, on Vancouver Island s east shore, is a little town snuggled in between a mountain range and the ocean, isolated with a river cutting it off from the south and a major highway to the north. A town that was born of the hands of labourers, with its only industry failing, Chemainus showed the world its true spirit and determination, and was to achieve fame through the hands of artists. When the lands natural resources failed to provide all the necessities of life, a new vision for the future evolved with the inventive people of Chemainus. That vision was to encompass the idea of giant outdoor wall murals in a revitalization strategy. This vision has earned Chemainus worldwide frame a memorable tourist venue. Such is the incredible story of The Little Town That Did, and the magic it has created for all who come here. 12 noon Depart Chemainus for Merridale Estate Cidery 12:15 pm Arrive Merridale Estate Cidery Lunch and tasting 1:15 pm Tour of Merridale Estate Cidery 2:00 pm Bus departs Merridale Estate Cidery for Victoria 3:00 pm Bus arrives at the Hotel Grand Pacific, Victoria Remainder of the afternoon free 6:00 pm Delegates, observers and guests board buses at the Hotel Grand Pacific, Quebec Street Entrance (rear of building) Page 9
