1 GRANTS PASS HIGH SCHOOL Marching Band / Shadow Tour Jason Garcia, Director 2018 NEW YORK CITY PERFORMANCE TOUR 2018 MACY S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE NOVEMBER 18 23, 2018 Current as of November 3, 2018 itinerary details are subject to change YELLOW GROUP SCHEDULE DAY ONE: Sunday, November 18, 2018 GRANTS PASS DEPARTURE Note: Groups are organized by flight group until bus groups meet in the late morning/afternoon on Day Two. FLIGHT GROUP #2 (102 travelers + 1 Tour Manager, Lacey Kahley) Portland Departure 7:30pm Arrive at Portland International Airport and meet Lacey Kahley, your World Projects Tour Manager who will assist you with check-in with United Airlines and fly with you to New York City. Pass through security and proceed to your departure gate. 10:10pm Depart Portland International Airport for Newark Liberty International Airport via United flight #2417. Overnight en route. 1

2 DAY TWO: Monday, November 19, 2018 NEW YORK CITY ARRIVAL (B, D) Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel 811 7th Avenue, W 53rd St, New York, NY (212) FLIGHT GROUP #2 (102 travelers + 1 Tour Manager, Lacey Kahley) EWR Arrival 6:04am Arrive into Newark Liberty International Airport. Proceed to baggage claim, collect all baggage and instruments, and load the coaches. ~7:00am Transfer to Planet Hollywood on Broadway in midtown Manhattan. 8:00am Enjoy breakfast with your flight group at Planet Hollywood. ~9:00am After breakfast, walk to the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel. ~9:15am Arrive at the hotel, unload the coaches, and follow your Tour Manager who will show you where you will store your baggage. Large instruments and percussion will be stored in Liberty 3 on the third floor. You will have free time until your bus group meets at the hotel for sightseeing activities. Note: After flight groups store bags at the hotel, they are to meet their bus group and Tour Manager at the times designated below. Bus groups are split by colors (Main Group) and code words (Shadow Tour). YELLOW GROUP (MAIN) TOUR MANAGER: LACEY KAHLEY 12:00pm Assemble in the lower level meeting space of the hotel (where you stored your bags), meet your Tour Manager, Lacey Kahley, who will give you your tour lanyard, and then walk to the Museum of Modern Art nearby. 12:30pm Enjoy admission to the Museum of Modern Art. 2:00pm Assemble as a group and walk to the Rockefeller Center. 2:30pm Enjoy admission to Top of the Rock. 4:30pm Assemble as a group and walk to John s Pizzeria. 5:00pm Enjoy dinner as a group at John s Pizzeria. ~6:15pm Return to the hotel with your Tour Manager where you will obtain your room key, gather baggage, and check in to your rooms. The rest of the evening is free. GPHS staff/chaperone meet in the front lobby of the hotel for a meeting (time by staff). 2

3 DAY THREE: Tuesday, November 20, 2018 NEW YORK CITY (B, D) Rehearsal MAIN GROUP (BLUE, YELLOW, GREEN, ORANGE, PURPLE, RED) 6:30am Assemble in your color groups in Metropolitan Ballroom West at the hotel and walk to breakfast. 7:00am Breakfast as a group at Applebee s on 50 th St. ~8:00am Load the coaches by color group and depart for Battery Park. 9:00am Entry time at the Screening Facility for the ferry to Liberty Island begins. You will load the ferry to Liberty Island where you will have time to explore. Time Your Tour Manager will designate your group s meeting time for the ferry from Liberty Island to Ellis Island to Battery Park. Time After returning to Battery Park, enjoy lunch on your own in chaperone groups in the Wall Street area. 1:00pm Assemble in your color group at Battery Park where you will meet your local tour guide. 1:15pm Embark on a walking tour of Lower Manhattan including the 9/11 Memorial, Trinity Church, and Wall Street. 3:00pm Load the coaches and continue on a guided coach tour of Manhattan. Sights to include Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo, Greenwich Village, and Times Square. At the conclusion of your tour, say goodbye to your tour guides, and unload the coaches nearby your dinner restaurant. YELLOW, GREEN, & RED (MAIN) 4:45pm Dinner as a group at Virgil s BBQ. 6:00pm After dinner, assemble with the rest of the marching band and enjoy a group picture in Times Square (arranged on own). ~6:30pm Return to the hotel and prepare for your evening rehearsal. 7:00-9:45pm Enjoy your group rehearsal in the Metropolitan Ballroom at the hotel. 10:00pm All equipment packed up and returned to storage room. GPHS staff/chaperone meet in the front lobby of the hotel for a meeting (time by staff). 3

4 DAY FOUR: Wednesday, November 21, 2018 NEW YORK CITY (B, D) Note: World Projects will provide Empire State Building tickets to the group by Wednesday. World Projects suggests visiting the Empire State Building during free time on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday as tickets are not date- nor time-specific. ALL TRAVELERS Morning Breakfast on your own nearby with a $10 cash handout. The morning is free to enjoy New York City. Possibly shop along Fifth Avenue, explore Central Park, or take in the bright lights and shops of Times Square (all costs on own). 8:00am Travelers wishing to go to the Empire State Building as a group should meet in the lobby of the hotel. Tour Managers will escort you to the Empire State Building. Afternoon Lunch on your own nearby. ALADDIN (MAIN) 12:00pm Assemble as a group in the New York Ballroom at the hotel and meet your Tour Managers, Phil Hobson and Kendra DeBolt, who will escort you to your Broadway show. 1:00pm Enjoy the Broadway show, Aladdin, at the New Amsterdam Theatre. After the show, meet your Tour Managers, Kendra DeBolt and Brandon Smith, and walk to Ellen s Stardust Diner on Broadway. 5:15pm Enjoy dinner as a group at Ellen s Stardust Diner. 6:15pm After dinner, return to the hotel time to rest prior to your early morning rehearsal. GPHS staff/chaperone meet in the front lobby of the hotel for a meeting (time by staff). SCHOOL OF ROCK (MAIN) 1:15pm Assemble as a group in the New York Ballroom at the hotel and meet your Tour Managers, Lacey Kahley and Jon Pwu, who will escort you to your Broadway show. 2:00pm Enjoy the Broadway show, School of Rock, at the Winter Garden Theatre. After the show, meet your Tour Managers, Lacey Kahley and Jon Pwu, and walk to Ellen s Stardust Diner on Broadway. 6:30pm Enjoy dinner as a group at Ellen s Stardust Diner. 7:30pm After dinner, return to the hotel time to rest prior to your early morning rehearsal. GPHS staff/chaperone meet in the front lobby of the hotel for a meeting (time by staff). WICKED (MAIN) 1:15pm Assemble as a group in the New York Ballroom at the hotel and meet your Tour Managers, Hayden Martinez and Dimitri Martinez, who will escort you to your Broadway show. 2:00pm Enjoy the Broadway show, Wicked, at the Gershwin Theatre. After the show, meet your Tour Managers, Hayden Martinez and Dimitri Martinez, and walk to Ellen s Stardust Diner on Broadway. 6:30pm Enjoy dinner as a group at Ellen s Stardust Diner. 7:30pm After dinner, return to the hotel time to rest prior to your early morning rehearsal. 5 DAY FIVE: Thursday, November 22, 2018 NEW YORK CITY (B & L for perf-staff-chap, D for all) Performance Note: Those that have not visited the Empire State Building by this day should visit today or Friday morning. MARCHING PERFORMERS / STAFF / CHAPERONES ONLY 11:00pm Wake-up call for all students. 12:00am Gather in the New York Ballroom on the third floor to prepare for the parade. 1:40am Load the coaches and transfer to the Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade rehearsal area. ~2:40am Arrive at the Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade rehearsal area and get ready for parade rehearsal. 3:10-3:20am Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade rehearsal (time TBC). After the rehearsal, load the coaches and transfer to Hard Rock Cafe. 4:00-5:30am Breakfast and time to utilize restrooms at Hard Rock Cafe (for marching performers, staff, and chaperones only). Return to the coaches. 6:30am Transfer to Macy s Staging Area. ~7:10am Get in line for the Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade. 9:00am-12:00pm PERFORMANCE as part of the 2018 Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade. After the parade, take group picture, put away instruments, load the coaches, and return to the hotel. Afternoon Arrive back at the hotel and return to the New York Ballroom on the third floor to pack up instruments, equipment, and uniforms. Receive boxed lunch in the New York Ballroom and return to your rooms to eat (for marching performers, staff, and chaperones only). Time to rest this afternoon after a very long morning. 3:45pm Assemble in the New York Ballroom at the hotel for a meeting with the rest of the group about departure day (Friday). GRANDSTAND TICKETS GROUP 6:00am Assemble in the lobby of the hotel, meet your Tour Manager, Molly Wenske, and load the coach. 6:15am Transfer to the Upper East Side (The coach will not wait for late-comers.) Macy s allots a limited number of tickets to each band for grandstand seats on the Upper East Side ticket allocations will be the responsibility of GPHS. Please note, grandstand tickets are NOT for sale. 9:00am-12:00pm Enjoy the 2018 Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade! After the parade is finished, meet your Tour Manager at location at the designated time, and load the coach to return to the hotel. (The coach will not wait for late-comers.) 3:45pm TOUR PARTIPCIPANTS Assemble in the New York Ballroom at the hotel for a meeting with the rest of the group about departure day (Friday). NON-PERFORMERS / NON-MARCHING STAFF/CHAPERONES / SHADOW TOUR Morning Breakfast on your own nearby with a $10 cash handout. World Projects encourages you to take positions along the parade route along 6 th Avenue prior to 7:00am. 9:00am-12:00pm Enjoy the 2018 Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade! After the parade is finished, make your way back to the hotel. 3:45pm Assemble in the New York Ballroom at the hotel for a meeting with the rest of the group about departure day (Friday). 5

6 DAY FIVE: Thursday, November 22, 2018 NEW YORK CITY (B & L for perf-staff-chap, D for all) Performance (CONT D) THANKSGIVING DINNER AT VIRGIL S BBQ (5:00PM) 4:15pm Meet your Tour Manager, Jon and Luisa, who will escort you to dinner from the New York Ballroom. 5:00pm Enjoy Thanksgiving dinner at Virgil s BBQ. 7:00pm After dinner, return to the hotel. Travelers wishing to go to the Empire State Building as a group should meet outside the restaurant to meet Tour Managers who will escort you to the Empire State Building. GPHS staff/chaperone meet in the front lobby of the hotel for a meeting (time by staff). THANKSGIVING DINNER AT CARMINE S ITALIAN RESTAURANT (7:30PM) 6:45pm Assemble as a group in the New York Ballroom at the hotel and meet your Tour Managers, Hayden, Kendra, and Brittany, who will escort you to dinner. 7:30pm Enjoy Thanksgiving dinner at Carmine s Italian Restaurant. 9:30pm After dinner, return to the hotel. Travelers wishing to go to the Empire State Building as a group should meet outside the restaurant to meet Tour Managers who will escort you to the Empire State Building. GPHS staff/chaperone meet in the front lobby of the hotel for a meeting (time by staff). DAY SIX: Friday, November 23, 2018 NEW YORK CITY PORTLAND (B) FLIGHT GROUP #2 (102 travelers + 1 Tour Manager, Lacey Kahley) EWR Departure / Portland Arrival Morning Breakfast on your own nearby with a $10 cash handout. The rest of the morning is free to enjoy Black Friday shopping in New York City (all costs on own). 8:30-10:00am Check out of the hotel with all belongings and store your baggage in the Riverside Suite/Ballroom (third floor). Afternoon Lunch on your own nearby. 3:00pm Meet back at the hotel to retrieve your baggage and load the coaches. Retrieve large instruments and percussion from Liberty 3 on the third floor. 3:15pm Depart for EWR. ~4:45pm Arrive at Newark Liberty International Airport. Check in with United Airlines, pass through security, and proceed to your departure gate. You may wish to purchase food to bring on the flight. 7:20pm Depart Newark Liberty International Airport via United flight # :39pm Arrive into Portland International Airport. Collect baggage and depart for home via own transportation. WELCOME HOME! 6
