La Briantais As the French owned, LD Bulk, vessel LA BRIANTAIS was loading her deck cargo in Tauranga early June 2018, a group from TPT Forests staff together with members of C3 s documentation team visited the ship and observed the cargo operations. We were kindly hosted by the Master and a very friendly Filipino crew on board this tidy, 4 year old logger. Port Captain and Supercargo, Tony Correia gave an excellent

2 overview of loading operations, vessel s stability and was also able to answer all questions relation to the ship and life on board.

3 For the group, working daily on documentation, accounts and vessel reconciliation from behind a desk the visit, albeit in the rain, offered a pleasant change. The cargo destined for a single customer in Zhenjiang, China (Yangtze River Port) was loaded by 4 gangs throughout, in just over 3 days. The vessel has departed on her nearly 3 week long journey to Asia. Uruguayan Logs into Cao Fei

4 Dian Cao Fei Dian port continues to see South American logs. The M.V. African Heron was the 3rd Uruguayan log vessel to call Cao Fei Dian arriving late January this year. Strong wind and dense fog has seen some vessels berthing and unberthing during the recent winter months, however the port continues to function steadily. Cao Fei Dian Port is the main entry port for majority of the break bulk cargo into Northern China with approx. 70% arriving through that gateway. This port is the main destination for Canadian bark on logs. It housed 800K MT of softwood logs last year, 500k MT of this was from Pacific North West. The aim is to reach over a million this year. The M.V. Heilan Spring, under charter to TPT is carrying Australian logs from Gladstone and is due to arrive mid-feb.

5 MV Australian Bulker TPT Forests Ltd recently completed loading the MV Australian Bulker in Napier. She was on the second leg of her maiden voyage and loaded about 35,000 JAS for China. The M.V. Australian Bulker was delivered in December 2017 and is one of 3 Shikoku 36K DWT Loggers under long term charter to Lauritzen Bulkers A/S. Horizon Shipbrokers Ltd visited the ship in Napier along with one of the chartering mangers from Lauritzen s Singapore office. M.V. Australian Bulker set sail for Lanshan, China and is due

6 to arrive early February. MV Berge Annupuri Ship Visit TPT Shipping Operations team visited the MV Berge Annupuri whilst she was loading in Tauranga mid November MV Berge Annupuri was built in 2015 and is a 34K DWT purpose built bulk/log carrier, owned and operated by Berge Bulk. Although a few years old, the ship was clean and beautifully presented. The crew morale was vibrant, which was a direct reflection of the Master s own personal beliefs and what Berge Bulk as a company stands for. The tour started on the bridge and ended in the engine room, followed by a delicious traditional Chinese lunch on board, prepared by the ship s chef and kitchen staff. The team had a highly enjoyable and informative visit. MV Berge Annupuri loaded approximately 37,000 JAS, a mixture of U grade and A grade Radiata Pine for Korea.

7 Huangdao Container Terminal Huangdao container terminal is busy these days devanning large numbers of containers of softwood logs. There is no time to waste in the container business with shipping lines charging high detention fees for late returns. Huangdao is TPT s largest discharge port for Australian containerized log exports. These photos highlight the newly monitored and enforced 25MT per 40 FCL net weight restrictions implemented in September last year. Most containers are shown as 3/4 full, which was

8 not the case prior to the implementation of the weight restriction. This has become an expensive regulation for most log exporters with the net result being an increase in container freight costs per JAS of logs. However it undoubtedly has made a significant improvement in safety and reduction in wear and tear on Chinese roads for all the light three axle container trucks carrying heavy payloads of logs around China. Berge Hallasan Loading The M.V. Berge Hallasan a 2016 built Naikai 38Kdwt, owned and operated by Berge Bulk is currently loading at the Port of Longview, Washington State, USA.

9 The Port of Longview on the Columbia River is the largest log Port in the USA and arguably the second largest log port in the world behind the Port of Tauranga in New Zealand. The Berge Hallasan will load approximately 42,000 JAS, a mixture of Hemlock, Spruce and Douglas Fir logs for Chinese receivers. She is bound for the Yangtze River Port of Wanfang at Taicang. Important Information regarding Biofouling Important Information regarding the Updated Craft Risk Management Standard s for Biofouling from New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries. Recently a vessel was stopped from completing its discharge, as it was in breach of MPI standards for Biofouling. It was an expensive operation for the owners of the vessel which was sent back out of NZ Territorial waters in order to have its hull cleaned. They had to employ a dive crew to get the vessel up to spec in International waters before being able to return to NZ to complete their discharge. We recommend all vessels familiarise themselves with the MPI standards, downloadable here, before entering New Zealand waters to avoid any breaches of standard or unforeseen expense.
