4 4 KEY FINDINGS INTERNATIONAL The to August 218 saw a record breaking 2.7m international visitor arrivals, an increase of 2.9% on the. The month of August saw 17,224 international visitors, up 7.7% on the August. Holiday visitor arrivals contributed the most to the annual growth, numbers were up 3.1% on the 12 months. Arrivals from China saw the biggest growth, up 1.4% on the. For the ending July 218, international guest nights in commercial accommodation (3.47m) were up 1.6% on the. International spend was $4.35b, up 5.6% for the. In the to August 218, Chinese visitors spent $916m, up 11.1% on the. Spending from the UK (up 6.6% to $337m), the US (up 3.1% to $376m) and Australia (up 4.2% to $837m) was also up. DOMESTIC There were 5.69m overnight visits by domestic visitors in Auckland in the to August 218, up 2.7% on the. Visiting friends and relatives (VFR) was the main reason for domestic visitation to Auckland, with 2.91m overnight visits recorded for the to August 218 (up 2.6% on the 12 months). For the ending August 218, the highest visitation of all regions to Auckland was from Waikatobased visitors (852,258 overnight visits), down 15.1% on the. There was strong growth from Bay of Plenty visitors (771,519 visits), up 14.1% compared to the. For the ending July 218, domestic guest nights in commercial accommodation (3.81m) were down 5.5%. Domestic spend was $4.2b and had increased by 6.6%. OVERALL There were 7.28m guest nights in commercial accommodation in Auckland in the to July 218, down 2.2% on the. The average daily rate (ADR) for hotels in the to August 218 was $21 (up 2.4%). The average hotel occupancy rate to August 218 was 83.9% (down 3.3%) and the RevPAR was $176 (down 1.% on the ).
