1 Columbia Lion s Regular Club meeting was called to order on May 7, 2015 by President Ken Powis at 6:30 pm with those members in attendance as shown on the Attendance Sign-in sheet. Invocation Lion Sandra G. Lion John T. seconded. Motion carried. Meeting Minutes Motion made by Lion Sandra G. we accept Board Minutes of April 16, 2015 as written. Lion Ronnie seconded. Motion carried. Motion made by Lion Mickie we accept Regular Club meeting minutes as written. Lion Sandra seconded. Motion carried. Old Business Eyeglass Assistance Board voted to approve assistance for Teresa Spain. Motion made by Lion Denise we assist Teresa Spain in the amount of $165. Lion Judith second. Motion carried. Membership Dunn s Board voted to drop the Dunns. Lion Martha made motion we drop Dunns in good standing. Lion John A. second. Motion carried. Lion Betty will contact Summertown secretary so she can proceed with the transfer process for the Dunns. Guest Speaker Board voted and approved Guest Speakers will begin 3 rd Thursday in July and continue monthly on the 3 rd Thursday of the month. Lion Sue made motion we invite guest speakers on the third Thursday each month hereafter. Lion Sandy second. Motion carried. State Convention Delegate Lion Mickie was appointed by President Ken to serve as delegate at the upcoming convention. Aprons for Events Tabled till next meeting. Donation Request Board voted and approved donation in the amount of $500 to be given to the HOSA Chapter at Central High School with presentation of check to be done at a scheduled meeting. Made motion we donate $500 to HOSA Chapter. Lion Michael second. Motion carried. Fish Fry Lion Karen informed members that Swamp John will do event with less than 350 people. Lion Karen will bring more information at next meeting 5/21/15. Belk Charity Sale No count at this time of amount collected. My Sister s Next Tabled to next meeting. Roundtable Discussion o Reminded everyone of the upcoming training in June and were encouraged to sign up for a class. o Lion Karen talked about Little League magazine. Motion carried. Membership Dunn s International and District dues were paid for 5 months. Haven t received reimbursement from Summertown for this dues. Lion Sue made motion to drop David & Devone Dunn in good standing. Lion Jimmy second. Motion carried. Lion Betty will send t0 Summertown secretary so she can proceed with the transfer. Guest Speaker Motion made by John Allen we start with Guest speaker at the July 16 th meeting and will have scheduled speakers monthly at the 3 rd meeting of the month. Lion Betty second. ByLaws & Constitution President Ken Powis appointed the following members to revisit and edit as needed: Lion Joy Dove; 2 nd VP, Lion Betty Gandee, Secretary; Lion Mickie DeHaven, Treasurer; Lion Georgia Davis, 1 st VP Lion Sue made motion we pursue the process for with the help of Lion Joy Dove. Lion Roma second. Motion carried. State Convention Delegate Lion Ken cannot attend creating a loss of vote. Motion made to name Lion Mickie as alternate delegate. Aprons for Events Tabled till next meeting on May 21, Donation Request Motion made by Lion Mickie we donate $500 to the HOSA Chapter at Columbia Central High School to help with trip to California National Leader Council. Lion Georgia second. Motion carried. Lion Sandra will invite the five individuals to attend meeting and present donation. Motion made to adjourn meeting at 6:35 by Lion Betty. Lion John A. second. Members: 28 Attendance: 16 Percentage: 57% Guests Central High School HOSA Chapter was presented a check by President Ken Powis to help with their expenses to travel to California to compete in Medical competition. Reports Treasurer s Report Administrative Account balance to date $2, Activities Account balance to date $7, Motion made by Lion Tommy we accept reports as read. Lion Roma seconded. Motion carried. A donation to White Cane in the amount of $876 was presented at State Convention May 9, Meeting Minutes Motion made by Lion John T. we accept Board Minutes of May 7, 2015 as written. Eyeglass Assistance Received one request from individual and application is being mailed. My Sister s Nest Lion Joy stated they have a clear and free title and deed to the house they are remodeling for female veterans. Fall gathering is second weekend in October and club can do a fund raiser at the event. Lion. Aprons for Events Board voted and approved to purchase six (6) Royal Blue aprons with logo for use at events. Motion made by Lion Martha we purchase six Royal Blue aprons for event. Lion Sandy seconded. Motion carried. Money pocket apron was tabled Audit Lion Betty, Sandy, and Tommy will conduct audit. Date TBD Bylaws & Constitution Board reviewed and voted to accept Bylaws with changes accept changes to Bylaws per International Bylaws with the following change: Membership Chair selects two individuals to serve on committee and will serve one year term. State Convention Rollout 212 members in attendance State Convention will be in Chattanooga, year celebration will be held at Pigeon Forge. More information to come. o 5 K Fund Raiser Lucas Golden Event is July 25 at Maury County Park. Participant fee - $25. o Friends & Family Event Will be held at Columbia Senior Center. PG Ralph Brewer will be guest speaker. o Car Show Lion Georgia rolled out activities and assigned tasks. Update Lion Ronnie Currently in hospital waiting for Stem Cell. Check s pays $116 toward eye exam and lens, which would be our cost. Board agreed to add Cheek s Optical to our current list of providers. Vision Screening Fund Raiser Approximate cost of equipment is $6,000. Lions Sandra. Discussion about fund raiser. Tabled Meeting Changes o First meeting of month will be brown bag. Second meeting we will bring food. o Motion was made by Lion Mickie Board meeting will be held the first Thursday of the month along with Regular Club meeting. Second Thursday will be Regular Club meeting only. Motion made by Lion Roma. Motion carried. Signage Columbia Lions Club was not put on the recent signage with the recent changes. Cost of putting name on marquee is $1,500. Tabled at this time. Purchase of food at Events Lion Mickie informed the Board if members purchased food at events, they can make a donation as we cannot charge members for food. Work up is not completed at this time Club Foundation Lion John T updated the Board on the requirements to form a foundation. Motion presented by Lion Sue P. that the club establish a foundation and to take the recommendation to the membership. Lion Ken P. seconded the motion and the motion carried. Apple Sales Discussion on the upcoming Apple Sales Fundraiser. The club will look into see if other vendors are interested. We currently charge $50.00 per case with a 50% profit from the sale. The sale starts in October with delivery in November. We will need the club support in ordering and delivery of the cases. Peace Poster Contest Waiting on additional information from Lion Betty G. Friends and Family Night Lion Sandra T presented a proposed program and menu for the Friends and Family Night. Lion Sandra G. will do the Invocation for the program. Lion John A. will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Motion by Lion Sandra T. to give a donation to the Senior Center of $ for use of the facility for the Friends and Family Night dinner.
