2 Welcome Welcome to our 2018 bull sale and the program that has developed the genetics that are found throughout the pages of this catalog. We hope that you will fi nd the offering of these genetics to fi t the needs of your operation and that their progeny will continue to make your business and the rest of the cattle industry profi table. Our goal is to provide our customers with the best information available in order to make the best decisions possible for their operation. The information that was not available by catalog deadline can be found on our website and will be available sale day. If you need additional information please don t hesitate to contact us. Our program continues to emphasize producing the type of cattle that will produce profi table offspring with a limited amount of inputs. As you look through our sire lineup you will see many different pedigrees represented but when you look at the cattle hopefully you will see a consistent type. Our primary focus has been, and will always be, to produce a functionally sound female that fi ts our environment. She needs to do her job with limited feed inputs, high udder quality, correct feet structure, fertility and a good disposition. These attributes not only work for us but they work for the commercial man who wants his cows to bring in a profi t. We started out as a commercial operation and continue to run a commercial herd along with our purebred cattle. We marketed our steers to the same Kansas feeder that allows us to get carcass information back to evaluate the carcass merit of the sires we are using. We utilize the carcass evaluation along with the ultrasound of our bulls to determine which genetics can produce a profi t for the feedlot segment of our industry while still producing the females that work with lower costs to the cow-calf segment of the industry. We once again will be teaming up with Top Dollar Angus to provide another marketing alternative for our customers. You will notice the Top Dollar logo on some of the bulls in the offering that qualify them for the marketing program that is explained later in the catalog. Our goal is to continue to provide added value to our customers cattle. In the midst of a drought we have had an exciting summer with numerous family milestones. Our oldest daughter, Cele, was married to Jeff Menees on June 24 at the ranch. Three days later we celebrated 30 years of marriage. On August 4th we hosted a Ketchum family reunion followed by our 100-year ranch celebration on the 5th of August. These family celebrations allowed us to rise above the circumstances and enjoy the important things in life. We are thankful for the opportunity to steward the resources that we have been blessed with and to meet so many great people that are involved in the Red Angus breed. SALE FORMAT: Once again we will be offering the bulls through a rancher s auction. We will have an auctioneer that will auction the sale in a relaxed atmosphere. All settlements will be made with clerks of the sale immediately following the conclusion of the sale and before any cattle will be released. We will follow the Terms and Conditions set forth by the Red Angus Association of America. Announcements made by seller on sale day take precedence over any statements printed in this catalog or advertisement. DELIVERY We will provide delivery up to 300 miles. Over 300 miles we will work with the buyer to make arrangements on delivery. A $100 credit per bull will be applied to the purchase price of the bull if the new owner picks up the bull(s) on the day of the sale. Delivery of the bulls will start the week after the sale. BULL HEALTH PROGRAM The bulls received Vision 7 at branding and then were preconditioned in August with Bovishield Gold One Shot and vision 7 Somnus. The bulls were boostered with Bovishield Gold in September. They received a Fusiguard injection in November and a booster four weeks later. The lice prevention program consisted of Ivermax in November, Stanguard in December, Cydection in late December, and Saber in January. Semen evaluations were performed by Dr. Liam Robbins of the Fallon County Vet Service prior to the sale and all the evaluation forms will be available sale day. BULL DEVELOPMENT The bulls are fed on a ration to develop them into sound functional useable bulls for big country. They are fed to gain 2.5 lbs per day. The ration consists of whole kernel corn (7.5 lbs), dry distiller s grain (2.5 lbs), corn silage (13 lbs) and the balance a mix of wheat hay and alfalfa/grass hay. This ration is developed to use 1% of the feed base being grain to reach our goal of 2.5 lb gain. They have been developed at Bruce & Eric Bowman s feedlot which is located 1 mile south of Rhame, N.D. SEMEN INTEREST Milk Creek Reds is retaining one-half revenue-sharing semen interest in all bulls in the sale. The retained semen interest by Milk Creek Reds allows us to collect semen, use semen on the bull in our herd, as well as share in semen revenue if the bull would develop interest to be used in other herds or semen marketing companies. Any semen collection would be at the buyer s convenience in the off-season use. Full possession and full salvage value sells on all bulls in this sale.. When you look at his individual performance I don t know if we have ever raised an animal that hit all the marks like he did. His dam produced the second-high-selling bull in our 2016 sale going to Westphal Red Angus in Grass Range, MT. His calves perform very well from weaning to yearling and carcass as well. His picture was taken 10 days prior to pulling him from cows. We had put him in with 57 head of wet 2-year-olds with heifer calves and he had settled over 50 of them. His only flaw was when we pulled bulls this summer and he thought he could pick a fight with Legend It didn t end well with his hind leg broke above the hock. We have him at World West Sires trying to collect semen on him. Progeny will be limited in the future due to the semen that we have on hand.
