2 Greetings Friends, Neighbors and Fellow Cattlemen (and women), First of all, and most importantly, a huge thank-you, to everyone for your support in the past with the purchase of our bulls or bred or replacement females and the positive feedback on how our cattle have worked for all of you. Also a huge thanks to all the guys (and gals) who help us get the bulls ready for pictures and for the sale and a shout out to all of your moms and dads for raising such a great group of kids. We are extremely excited and proud of the bulls we have on offer this year and we are exactly where we want to be with the addition of the black cattle into our program a few years back. We strive hard to grow our bulls on a high roughage ration and are very careful not to over feed them. It keeps our weights a bit lower than some of our fellow breeders but our customers keep telling us our bulls look good in the fall because they don t melt down and ruining a great bull by overfeeding him is something we just cannot live with. These bulls are ready to go to work for you. And the fact that we select only the top bull calves, from a 400 cow herd, ensures you are getting the best we have to offer. Our cows are culled hard for disposition, soundness, udder quality and performance and we continue to work hard every year to improve a herd we are already extremely proud of. And calving ease sires for your heifers, as always, is a main priority was a very interesting year, to say the least, and if you want to grab yourself a good hankie, and pour yourself a tall stiff one, I ll tell you a little bit about it. Never in my 58 years (and we ve got a lot of neighbors a lot older than myself who said the same) have I ever seen so much MUD as our poor little calves had to muck through last spring. And although they would have been better off born with pontoons, than feet, those little guys persevered, and stayed healthy, although I don t think it helped much with our wean weights, and finally made it to summer pastures. We found the highest point on the farm and set up a completely new sorting facility to sort our herd into breeding groups and were relieved to know they could finally find a dry place to lie down once they were on pastures. Our focus then shifted to salvaging our 2016 crop which had been snowed under, as it had been too wet to harvest in the fall of 2016, (crop insurance had to drive on swaths last June with their quads to get from one hill to another as the fields were even too wet for quads they eventually did write them off though). Some folks then burned their 2016 crops so they could replant last spring but we decided to wait (as it was already pretty late for seeding) and the fields finally dried out enough so we could bale the salvage crop in July. Then it was haying season we did get about 1 week to take off a month s worth of feed without rain, but most of it had between 2 and 8 inches of rain on it. Long story short we finally did seed about 300 acres of mixed grain for silage in July (2/3 of that was too wet to harvest this fall), we did salvage about 750 bales of 2016 barley, we silaged some weeds and volunteer crop from unseeded fields and we re tub grinding everything to get our herd through the winter. Good news is though we ve got Angus cattle. Of the nearly 500 females we exposed last summer we did not have 10 open the best year we ve ever had! (We had our first 300 calves this spring in just over 4 weeks). The November snow we had last fall melted in December and the 200 acres of greenfeed we could not harvest were grazed by our herd until January 25th, the salvaged barley and rained on hay were tub ground and fed 1/3 1/3-1/3 with the weeds and greenfeed we did silage last summer and we currently sit with more calves on the ground than cows calved. And if it ever quits snowing and raining we might even be able to get some crop in this spring. Don t get me wrong, rain is good, it s just that sometimes you can get too much of a good thing.... And we ve got a wedding coming up this summer. The Good Lord does work in mysterious ways. If you are looking for cows that will just work for you, without any special pampering, these are the sons for you. And cows like that are the ones that consistently bring home calves weighing at least 50% of their own body weight and I don t know what more you can ask for in a cow. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. BID Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. DISPUTES In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER S RISK Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.
