Hopefully it will begin to act like Spring pretty soon. Hey, no sooner than I finish writing this paragraph the weather has changed to sunny and warm! Go figure. Enjoy it while it lasts!

With the weird weather we re having, I think the old saying should be changed to either April Showers bring May flooding, or April snow showers bring anguish and depression! Hopefully it will begin to act like Spring pretty soon. Hey, no sooner than I finish writing this paragraph the weather has changed to sunny and warm! Go figure. Enjoy it while it lasts! I want to thank everyone for attending the March meeting. Unfortunately I was out of town and had to miss it, but I heard it was very enlightening and it complemented the February seminar on Pressure Booster Packages. Thanks to Reid Crandall and BBC Pumps for sponsoring a fine luncheon! For this month, we have something special for you all. As you ve probably noticed, Delta Faucets will be sponsoring this month s meeting and seminar. They will also be hosting the meeting at their Research and Development facility off North Meridian. They ve been working on this program for quite some time so they can provide an educational, yet non-biased program for us. It is titled The State of Innovation in the Plumbing Industry and our presenters, among others will be Jason Kern and Bob Rodenbeck. More details are listed elsewhere in this issue. Another big departure for us as well as the location will be the time. This will be an after work meeting from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. I hope you all will be able to attend! It s been a while since Delta last hosted a meeting and I must admit it was very impressive. I want to take a moment to congratulate our Evansville ASPE colleagues for putting on another successful Product Show! I know a lot of hard work went into putting this thing on. A special thanks to Brian Lowe and Mike Borman, and the many volunteers that made it possible! And we can t forget the our generous manufacturer s representatives and wholesalers. Be sure to read Sam s article for more details. It won t be long until May is here and we ll be looking forward to attending our ASPE Member Appreciation event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Fast Friday. Hopefully you all know how special this event is since it s the 100 th running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race! If you are a member and would like to attend, be sure to contact Pete Dervenis for tickets and passes. If you are not a member, you still have time to join ASPE and attend. More details are in this issue. Also in May, the registration for the 2016 ASPE Convention and Expo opens up. You ll find information about the convention elsewhere in this issue. Keep an eye out for details in the ASPE Pipeline as well as the ASPE website. One last bit of news It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Mike Bratton passed away on April 1 st. Mike was formerly with B&W Plumbing & Heating and more recently with Circle Design Group. I got to know Mike very well while I was at Circle Design and I will miss him very much. Mike was a wealth of knowledge and experience. It was great to hear his stories from the contractor s perspective. On the behalf of our ASPE members, I would like to wish Mike s family our condolences. I ll see you at the meeting. Page 2

The trade show was a huge success we had over 425 apprentices, instructors, and building officials that visited our manufactures.

I would also like to thank Jason Blondin, JATC Coordinator, with Plumber and Steamfitters Local 136 for hosting this event for the third year.

Special thanks goes out to Brian Lowe with Ferguson and Mike Borman with J.E. Shekell. Without these two, the trade show would not have been possible.

Dann Holmes with NSF International gave us an in-depth look into NSF at last month s luncheon. The presentation was very informative and well attended.

The unseasonably cold April weather is putting a damper on spring. I m looking forward to warmer weather and more time to spend outdoors. The trade show was a huge success we had over 425 apprentices, instructors, and building officials that visited our manufactures. I would like to thank all 38 vendors for bringing their products and spending the day with us. I would also like to thank Jason Blondin, JATC Coordinator, with Plumber and Steamfitters Local 136 for hosting this event for the third year. This event would not be possible without the countless hours from all of the volunteers and ASPE board members. Special thanks goes out to Brian Lowe with Ferguson and Mike Borman with J.E. Shekell. Without these two, the trade show would not have been possible. Brian and Mike spent many hours and had numerous meetings to make sure the trade show would go off without a hitch. Well done guys! We look forward to having Dann back for another presentation in the future. The April meeting will be held on Thursday, the 28 th at 11:30 at Red Fez. 5 Dann Homes ASPE Region 2 Affiliate Liaison In my article last month, I told you about The State of The Society video presentation by Mitch Clemente. I hope you had a chance to view it. If not, please visit this YouTube link to watch his ASPE video, There is a wealth of knowledge packed into one-half hour. Left standing in the Sweet 16 round of the ASPE Chapter Membership Tournament, we have Philadelphia and Toronto. Eastern Michigan lost to Philly by just 0.68%. It is nice to know our remaining Chapters in contention are on opposite sides of the bracket. Philly takes on Kansas City and Toronto takes on Virginia Blue Ridge to enter the Elite 8. Come-on Region 2, we are rooting for you. If you read, the recent ASPE Pipeline last week you might have read about a cat that slipped out of the bag prior to an official press release, so I can now inform you that ASPE and NSF International have signed an MOU. Under this agreement, both organizations will work cooperatively on many fronts and are very excited to give ASPE members access to so much new information. We can elaborate on this opportuntity once the press release is official. Stay tuned. I travelled to Evansville, IN recently to take part in the third annual joint ASPE-JATC trade show at the UA Local 136 training center. It was an incredible event. It was such a huge success; make plans to attend the fourth annual joint ASPE- JATC trade show in Evansville. 13 April Meeting Preview Course Description: The State of Innovation in the Plumbing Industry Speaker Bio: Bob Rodenbeck Director, Research & Development, Delta Faucet Company With a background in the aerospace, security and plumbing industries, Bob Rodenbeck brings a diverse set of skills in engineering, product marketing and innovation to his leadership role as director of research and development of Delta Faucet Company. Bob, who joined the company in 2002 to drive innovation for the Delta, Brizo and Peerless brands, is responsible for managing a multi-disciplinary team tasked with developing breakthrough products at the convergence of unmet market needs and new technology. A number of the company s most groundbreaking products, including its touch-activated and hands-free kitchen and bath innovations, are a direct result of his leadership. He also conceptualized the valve technology used to create the unique faucet form introduced by the Jason Wu for Brizo Odin faucet. Bob also leads a significant amount of consumer-based research, including the company s annual Voice of the Consumer market study, which identifies new opportunities for market growth. His work has led to multiple awards for Delta and Brizo brand products, including several Stevie Awards, an MVP award from Building Products magazine and an Edison award, which recognizes the leading talent in innovation. He holds a master s degree in management and a bachelor s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University. Jason Kern Commercial Sales Manager, Delta Faucet Company As a commercial sales manager for Delta Faucet Company, Jason Kern is responsible for all commercial sectors, including hospitality, multi-family and heavy commercial, within the Midwest territory. Jason works with numerous manufacturers representative agencies to ensure that Delta Faucet Company s commercial sales grow. He joined the company in 2013 as a product manager within the bathing fixtures team bringing with him experience in sales and marketing. As a former National Sales Manager with SIGVARIS, Jason s experience with medical sales has helped him excel in his current position. Jason is a member of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) and a frequent Habitat for Humanity volunteer. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University. Page 13
