3 President s Ramblings Our January Business meeting at Bob s Burger and Brew in Marysville was quite productive. With fresh batteries, our new secretary Donna McGinnis was recording our business meeting s minutes, and 2018 was off and running. Discussed at our business meeting: In the past, at our annual Christmas dinners, our Skagit/Snohomish regional group has been paying half of the meal tab for our club members. This perk discount does not apply to nonmember guests attending our Christmas dinner parties. However, if the nonmember guests would like to join our club by paying our club s annual dues, only then can they start enjoying our Christmas dinner discount. That procedure was generally agreed upon in our January meeting s business discussion. I have this to add: Entertainment costs (including meals for the band members) are also part of the Christmas dinner expense, as are all other dinner event costs; and all costs should be prorated amongst the people attending. We use this same method for determining registration costs for our SS Fall Tour, all of the event s expenses, including tips, etc., are to be divided amongst the tour participants. Our regional group does not presently hold any money making events, therefore; all events that our club hold in the future, the events should not have a negative impact on our club s treasury. Unless we can get our club s treasury back up to a healthy bank balance, I do not foresee our club allowing any more member dinner discounts at our Christmas dinners. Vicki and Joe Morgan have been doing a bang up job of getting our annual Fall Tour up and rolling. There are still a few openings left on the tour committee that still need our members help. We have openings available in Banquet Décor (table center pieces, etc.), Silly awards (best dressed, longest wheel base, etc.), Fall Tour Awards (spirit of the tour, people s choice, ladies choice, trouble trophy, etc.). If you can be of help on any of these, please contact Pat Farrell or Vicki Morgan to be added onto this fall tour committee list. Vice President Ray Markley has been putting together our 2018 meeting calendar. Ray is still looking for meeting places for this summer. Any ideas for their venues would be appreciated. At the Puyallup Swap Early Bird Swap Meet, our lunch and business meeting will be held at Charlie s, at 1 PM Saturday February 17 th, See you all there. Fairgrounds, Bremerton, WA Nov No meeting DECEMBER 2018 Dec tbd Christmas party SKAGIT-SNOHOMISH REGIONAL HCCA January 20 th, 2018 MEETING MINUTES The meeting was called to order at 1:20 PM by President Pat Farrell at Bob's Burger and Brew in Marysville, WA. Members in attendance included Tom Brethauer, Benny Cassel, Dave and Elaine Ellis, Pat and Merrily Farrell, Steve Hammatt, Ray and Vicki Markley, Mike Martin, Mike and Donna McGinnis, Ray and Nancy Moore, and Harold and Gayle Musolf III. MINUTES: Steve Hammatt made a motion to approve the December minutes as published in the January newsletter; it was seconded by Ray Markley. The motion was approved by the general membership. TREASURER'S REPORT: Vicki Markley reported on the balance of the treasury. Though solvent, it was noted that the treasury is at a low point after paying for 50% of the Christmas party as well as loaning $ seed money towards the 2018 Regional Tour. SUNSHINE REPORT: Elaine Ellis passed around a card for Penny Cruger; Donna McGinnis explained that Penny is back in the hospital for further tests and medication adjustments before going to a Skilled Nursing Facility for further recuperation. Jo White has also been in and out of the hospital. Carolyn Martin is still fighting the Shingles and is on medication to help with the ongoing pain. OLD BUSINESS: After finding out the cost of the Christmas Party, a discussion followed about subsidizing only members or the full attendance. Vicki Markley moved that we subsidize only active members but not guests from hereon; Merrily Farrell seconded the motion. During further discussion, Tom Brethauer explained that he was so rushed and busy that it was not clear whether all or part of the costs were contributed by guests this year. The motion was passed to cover only members for any subsidized events in the future. The Fall Tour for our Skagit-Snohomish group was the next issued covered. A sign-up sheet for help on the tour was passed around. There will not be T-shirts this year, as recommended by the Board of Directors. Please sign up early so that the seed money can be returned to the treasury as soon as possible. Steve Hammatt reported that the Gazette will list it in the calendar but will not be including the flyer until May/June and the July/August issues. Harold Musolf III suggested that earlier issues would

5 be advantageous, so Steve will send in the information for 2019's tour hopefully to start in the January/February issue next year. There are two prices for this year's motel. The higher of the two prices is for The Tower, which is a newer section of the casino hotel with view rooms. Subjects from the December Board meeting: It was decided to approve sending $ seed money to Vicki and Joe Morgan for the upcoming tour. Vicki Markley and Dave Ellis volunteered to check with JC Taylor about insurance coverage limits. (There will be no further follow-up on insurance limits at this time.) NEW BUSINESS: The Findlays sent information about a June tour in Pendicton, BC to be put on by the Vancouver Region of HCCA and the Antique Chapter of the VCCC. Steve Hammatt also passed out brochures about an August 2019 Australian Rally. There will be lots of rides available so that you do not have to take your car, though they are working on their government to help defray some of the costs of shipping if you wish to take your car. Mike McGinnis and Dave and Elaine Ellis told about the incredible hospitality given by the Australians previously and noted that the many teas really cover a gamut of various meals. Vice President Ray Markley was busy aligning this year's calendar for hosts for meetings and/or tours; Donna McGinnis, as coordinator between the Puget Sound Model T Club and our club, had given Ray Markley the 'T' agenda so that the two groups do not collide on dates, if possible. Suggestions include February 17 at 1 PM at Charlie's in Puyallup; March 24 at Bob's in Marysville, April 21 in Sedro Woolley under Pat Farrell's direction, May 19 to be decided by Tom Brethauer, June 16 under the leadership of Dave and Elaine Ellis, July 21 by Vicki and Ray Markley, August 18 by?, and September Regional Tour under the direction of Vicki and Joe Morgan. Further sign-up will be held later. ADJOURNMENT: Vicki Markley made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 2:20 PM, which was seconded by Harold Musolf III. Respectfully submitted, Donna McGinnis, Secretary February 17, 2018 Meeting The February lunch/meeting will be held in conjunction with the Puyallup Swap Meet. The Date: February 17 th at 1:00 pm The Location: Charlie's Restaurant & Lounge 113 East Main Street, Puyallup, WA We will meet in one of the "private" rooms In Memoriam George Breitung, long-term horseless Carriage Club member and former President of the National passed away recently at the age of 97. The first pace car ever was a Stoddard-Dayton driven by Carl G. Fisher to start the Indianapolis 500 in A 1909 Corbin Automobile at Seal Cove Museum. Philip Corbin, an automobilist, encouraged his family, owners of the American Hardware Corporation in New Britain, to enter the automobile business. The first Corbin automobiles were built in They were aircooled, employing an ingenious system with a horizontal fan blowing air over 56 rows of sheet steel fins around individual cylinder castings. Corbin may have been an enthusiast but he was also a conservative New Englander. He hedged his bets on air cooling by designing a parallel set of cylinder castings with water jackets so the aircooled Corbins could also be built with a radiator and water cooling. Liquid proved to be the more successful coolant and, by 1910, the air-cooled Corbins were no more. The 1909 Seal Cove Auto Museum s Model O is water cooled.
