All the rides and events we put on in 2018 seem to be compressed into the blink of an eye. It was a great year of fun, but wait! We ve already started planning our 2019 ride and event calendar and our new Second VP, Kathy Burns has some great ideas. Our winter is here and thankfully we ve had some good rain. It s a time of year that riding can t be planned just get out when the gettin s good. Just be careful as some of the trails can be damaged by riding when it s too wet. I ve seen almost foot-deep hoof depressions with a horseshoe complete with nails stuck in the bottom. Not a good thing for our trails, and certainly not for the horse whose shoe was pulled off. Our first meeting is Tuesday, January 15th at 7:00, with coffee and dessert at 6:30. We will have our 2019 membership applications available for renewals and new members (who get their first year free). We are setting up speakers and presentations for our 2019 meetings. If you have any ideas, let us know. We hope to see a lot of you there to start off our new year. We would like to hear ideas from our membership for activities. See you January 15th.

2 Kathy Burns, Second Vice President 2019 Ride Plan I m honored to organize our group rides in I hope I can live up to the wonderful job that Joan Howard did for us all in I ve based this plan on what has been done in the past and added a couple of things. I m more than open to your suggestions and ideas. I m a sort of BVS newbie, so please, don t be shy. Text, call or me, my contact info is at the end of my report. Our monthly rides will be on the second Saturday of the month, unless otherwise indicated. If it s too wet or under 40 degrees, (or nearing 90 degrees come the summer), we ll postpone to the following Saturday. This will give us several chances to make it work with the weather. There will be two Friend s Rides per month, on the first and third Fridays of the month (with the same weather postponement plans, pushing back to the following Friday if it s too nasty out). These rides will remain informal, and the group can decide where to ride, who wants to lead, etc. These normally meet at the EQ Center (but we do have a few other places that can stage trailers; Cub Lake, Sycamore trailhead, my house.) In the saddle at 11AM during the winter and much earlier (8 or 9AM) in the summer. Jan. 12: First of the Monthly Saturday Rides Be in the saddle at 11AM. We ll stage at my place: South Lower Valley Road. We ll either ride the meadow or part of Sycamore, depending on trail conditions. Then hot chocolate, hot toddies and chili after the ride. Jan. 18: Feb. 9: Mar. 9: Apr. 13: May 5: May 11: Jun. 8: Jul. 13: Aug. 10: Sep. 14: Oct. 12: Nov. 9: Dec. 14: Friend s Ride In the saddle at the EQ Center at 11AM Mulligan Room Lunch Moessner s Lunch Poker Ride and Brown Bag Lunch Cinco de Mayo Progressive Early Supper Ride (This is on a Sunday, start and end at my house, it s also my birthday!) Wildflower Ride (We may change the date for when the flowers are in most abundance.) Wine Ride Any place with shade, it s hot! Sycamore Canyon? Any place with shade, it s hot! Fall Progressive Dinner Ride (Start and end at the EQ Center.) Water Canyon/High Country Sycamore Canyon Wine Ride Full Moon Rides: June through September or whenever it s warm enough at night to enjoy this. June 17, July 16, August 15, September 13. Meet at my place. In the saddle time will vary depending on when the moon rises and the sun sets, between 7PM and 8:30PM. 5 Susan Mustaffa, Secretary December Christmas Party Report There was no general BVSH meeting for December. However, a good-sized group of our members got together at the OTCC on December 15th for the annual Christmas Party and enjoyed a delicious buffet. The room was festively decorated and many commented on how great the food was. It appeared everyone had a good time. The 2019 board members were introduced including new members, Doug Slavin for 1st Vice President and Kathy Burns for 2nd Vice President. Joan Howard was thanked for her many years of service and commitment to the club and gave an emotional good bye. We will be putting out a survey soon to all members to solicit ideas for rides and events for the coming new year. If you know of a speaker you would like to have at one of our monthly meetings or have ideas for events or clinics, we would like your input, so feel free anytime to reach out to any board member.
