1 Acorn A s Our 43rd Year The NutShell January 2015 Well my first term as your president has come to an end. I would like to thank you for letting be your president and staying with me as I try and change a few things. We have some exciting tours and shows coming up for the new year so get to work on those cars! I for one will be rebuilding the front end on Barbara next month. If there is someplace that you wish to go, even if we have been there before and you think it will be a good tour speak up. I am sure that George would love to put you down to lead a tour. That is all for now, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah and Happy New Year. Mike Acorn A s Seminars January 17th am to 1 pm Two seminars will be held. The first on Model A Safety and How to Lead a Tour by Bill. The second held upstairs is on knitting and crochet led by Anne. For the knitting seminar you are asked to bring your own project including needles and yarn. The seminars will be held at the Biddell s home and will include coffee when you arrive and lunch after the seminars. The seminars are free if you preregister. Without preregistration the cost is $5. Sign up will be at the January 13th meeting. 2 Page 2 2 Meeting Minutes NutShell Francisco s Restaurant in Oakland President Mike called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. George Diamantine presented the slate of Officers for 2015 they are: Mike Cozad - President, Glenn Martin -Vice President, Steve Danzer -treasurer and Mona Diamantine - Secretary. The attendees elected the slate of Officers as presented by George. Tour Awards: George first thanked Bill Biddell for making this year s tour awards, a hand turned clock. Bill noted Bob Woodford donated the wood for the trophies. Recipients were, Tony Shull and David Samson, George and Mona Diamantine, Kathy and Bill Morte, Brian and Sue McGarry and Mike Cozad. Participation Awards: Glenn Martin announced he did the award differently this year and decided to give the award to the most active woman and man in the Club. Awards went to Bill Biddell and Virginia Boling. Longevity Awards: Bill Biddell presented Tony Shull and David Samson with 30 year pins and Bob and Vickie Francone 5 years pins. He also noted that Lil Vincent donated several books relating to our Model A s and the Club had them for sale at the meeting. Committee Chair recognition: Mike Cozad thanked the committee chairs and Club Officers for their support during the year and gave each a Club bag with various goodies. Swearing in of Club Officers: Bob Kurtz, retired judge for Alameda County, swore in the Club Officers. All were present this year. Shake Award: Tony Shull announced he and David went to Paris to get the basket and several items in the basket. The shake award went to the Diamantine s for their efforts to make sure there was a tour each month and their assistance with the meetings. Hangover Tour: Tony reminded everyone about the annual Hangover Tour on January 1, We will leave the Church Parking lot at 10:30. We are meeting at the Church parking lot so everyone who is bringing food, and everyone should, can drop off Annual December Meeting 17, December , 2014 their food and plug in their crock pots if necessary to keep their food warm. Additional acknowledgements: President Mike gave Virginia Boling and Kathy Morte gift cards for creating the centerpieces for the meeting. The centerpieces were given away through a drawing of the attendees names. Kathy Morte also thanked President Mike for a wonderful year. Carol Low moved to adjourn. 3 NutShell Page 3 Hangover Tour January 1st Everyone its time for the Annual Acorn A's Hangover Tour and club Potluck! George Diamantine will be leading the tour from the Castro Valley Methodist Church. The tour leaves at 10:30 am, so if you are bringing something for the Lunch show up a bit early so you can leave it there and not have to drive around with it. As usual there is no alcohol permitted, and we cannot use the church stove but we will have an extension cord or two for those of you with Crock pots or Hot Plates so start digging through those recipes for something yummy. For any info on the tour or Potluck see George Diamantine or Tony Shull. There will be a sign-up sheet at the Annual Banquet and we look forward to seeing you there, a tour and food is always a good way to start off the Acorn A's Tour Season! Before there were interstates, when everyone drove the old 2 lane roads, signs would be posted all over the countryside in farmers' fields. They were small red signs with white letters. The issues start with Volume 1 number 1 in 1956 and continue into They are boxed in Restorer binders in lots of 2 volumes. They are being offered for sale. If you are interested send an to: acornasfordclub@aol.com or call Bill Biddell for a list of those available, their condition and cost. Most are in excellent condition a few have water damage and there are some missing issues. Lil has also donated many Model A books which will be available from the accessories table at the next meeting in January. For a list of those titles please contact Bill or to the Acorn A s address. Yosemite and Eastern Sierra Tour July 2015 We are planning a tour to Yosemite and the Eastern Sierra in July of The tour will be 6 days and 5 nights with 2 nights in Yosemite and one night in a Nevada casino. The tentative dates are July 7 to 12. If you are interested in taking this tour please contact Bill Biddell and mention tour A-715. This is so we can book rooms early. We will collect a deposit in April for those who want to lock in their spot.
