FROM THE EDITOR Certainly lots going on here at home and in the MAPS areas at present. The short notice that we should attend a Citizenship ceremony on Australia Day meant that we missed our regular Four Clubs meet up. A pity really as it was by going along to a NARC Kapunda venue over a decade ago that led to MAPS becoming the fourth club involved and we have looked forward to them ever since. Thank you to all the well wishers from our members. Of course it was buying the FE Holden that clinched the Citizenship Dept. to give us the OK! Prior to that event, the weekend at Milang was a most enjoyable time and I have booked our place in the caravan park for next year already. Perhaps next year we can persuade more members to display their cars on the Milang oval so as to be part of the Sunday display. A week later and I was back to Pommie influences as it was All British Day at Echunga. This is a top class event, whatever your taste in motor cars. The organisation is incredible and the show benefits worthy causes such as Guide Dogs for the Blind; $5000 for With May coming up all too quickly, I am about to send off our entry for the HMVC s British Classics Tour, a another favourite event. Combined with the buy MAPS program, there s a lots to look forward to in Car wise, we said farewell to our Bristol 409 at Echunga as she is on her way to Sandy Bay, Tasmania where she will be well cared for by Ian and Judy Robinson. 3 The February meeting was well attended and there was a jovial atmosphere present. Even the discussion on proposed constitution changes had a humorous tone! Just to assure anyone wondering about the changes it s all pretty simple. Some is simply tidying up some grammar. The two notable changes are to allow the AGM to be held a couple of months after the end of the Club s financial year, thus allowing the books to be audited for the AGM. The other change is one I have been hoping for over several years is to enlarge the Committee, thus allowing additional representation and input from the expanding membership. Two extra places will hopefully see newer members take up a Committee place with a view to graduating up to specific roles at a later date. So, you budding Editors, Club Rego Officers and Events Coordinators your time will come.! Just spotted that the late Arthur Clisby was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his services to the historic motor vehicle movement. We ll miss him as a regular visitor to our Motorfest event and on the Federation Tours. Best wishes to Erica Andrews who has spent several days in hospital after suffering a broken humerus ( That ain t funny!) after a fall. Now it is in a brace for the next 8 weeks. Haydn will be taking can opening and micro wave classes! Looking forward to seeing many of you at coming events and meetings. Mike O

4 Government of South Australia, Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure. REGULATION SAFETY & SERVICES DIVISION I am writing to advise you that regulation 37 (1) of the South TAKE NOTE Australian Road Traffic Regulations 2014 (Road Rules Ancillary and Miscellaneous Provisions) has been repealed, taking effect as of 13 December The repealing of this regulation means that people travelling in vehicles registered on the Club Registration Scheme (the Scheme) that are fitted with seatbelts must wear those seatbelts. Previously, this regulation effectively exempted any person travelling in a vehicle registered on the Scheme from wearing a seatbelt, even where the vehicle has seatbelts fitted. As you are aware, a review of the Scheme saw changes to the eligibility age of vehicles from 1 July As the Scheme is now open to later model vehicles, vehicles that are 30 years old or more (on a rolling basis), many of which are fitted with seatbelts, such an exemption is no longer suitable. In addition, vehicles registered under the Scheme are now subject to seatbelt and child restraint laws under the Australian Road Rules (the ARR). While rule 267 (IA) of the ARR still provides an exemption from wearing a seatbelt if one is not fitted, this exemption does not apply to a person who is under seven years old. In addition, any child under the age of seven must be restrained in a suitable, properly fastened and approved child restraint. While it is appreciated that this may pose difficulty for vehicles in modifying them to provide for seatbelts and child restraints, allowing children to travel in vehicles without being appropriately restrained is not considered appropriate. Given one third of driver fatalities involve people not wearing a seatbelt, the decision to repeal regulation 37 (1) is consistent with South Australia's Road Safety Strategy. Attached is a copy of the Gazette Notice for your reference. It would be appreciated if this information could be communicated to your members. 8 MILANG WEEKEND A LA WILKIN The Wilkin/ Wilton contingency booked early into the Milang Motel because the rooms had bathrooms, a very important consideration at our stage of life! We travelled from Coobowie/Edithburgh in the Mustang, a very comfortable ride had by all. Stopping at Strathalbyn on the way we met up with fellow members, Jim and Deb at the bakery where we had lunch. We took some time to visit the Classic Cars Showroom and found some lovely machinery, though the prices were a little high. I particularly liked the 427 Cobra but he whispered that it was really only a 302! Loved the Kombi, the Morris Minors and the Rolls, which we thought was a bargain at 26 K. Doug loved the BSA 650 police bike and Peter and Pam were taken by the AJSs. After a visit to the op shop where my Saturday Night attire was purchased for $8, we dropped into the Information Centre to pick up some pamphlets. When asked where we were staying, the response was somewhat un-nerving but we pressed on to Milang with cautious confidence. Arriving there we went to the office where we were assured that our payment was something Chris the manager wasn t particularly concerned about. He proceeded to give number 8 key to the Wilton s, which turned out to be occupied by a semi permanent, then gave us no 10 for room 11 which doesn t go! All was well, at length and we checked into really very nice, clean rooms with so many extras you don t often see in a two star motel such as fresh jug of milk, coffee machine and pods, bread, homemade jam, Vegemite, containers of breakfast cereal and the list went on. 8. Perhaps the only slight issue for us was a connecting door to room 12 which wasn t and couldn t be locked. Turned out our neighbours were Richard and Marg as their Pajero, oops sorry, their PRADO was parked next to us. After a quick chat, we took off to Victor Harbor to visit Lyn and Kip Newbold and to drool over their amazing motoring collections (and house)! After fish and chips for tea, we arrived back to the motel after dark and all was quiet. Jammed in our door was a note requesting we be quiet and not wake the baby! After collapsing about laughing, I slipped a slightly rude reply under the connecting door, followed by some baby magazines and two sachets of Vegemite. Meanwhile the Wilton s arrived and we noisily celebrated Pete s birthday with a cake and a rousing version of Happy Birthday. A note came through the door requesting birthday cake to which I responded with a beautifully drawn version of the cake, annotated with all the highlights, butter cream, white choc ganache and gold choc balls. The response came back that the cake tasted a bit papery! As everything settled down and Peter and Pam were about to leave, a glorious version of Happy Birthday complete with full orchestra, oozed silkily under the door and filled our room. Thankyou Richard. Saturday morning we decided to take a drive to Finnis where some MAPS members were meeting for lunch at the Finnis General Store. Arriving there we found a cafe/ restaurant with indoor/outdoor dining and a very good menu. After lunch we spent the afternoon sight seeing around the area including a cruise around Hindmarsh Island to take in the mansions and expensive water craft!

! Back to Milang for dinner at the hotel. The meals were substantial, especially the beef schnitty, (see photo). Arriving back at the motel we sat outside amongst the greenery and chatted with our neighbours, Richard and Marg and Ken and Jeanette Heinrich, making for a very pleasant finish to the evening. Sunday morning we made our way down to the wharf to take the Oscar W paddle boat cruise at 11:00. The weather was glorious, the water flat as a biscuit and the old boat really charming. With a fresh breeze cooling us we thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Back to shore for lunch at Milang Bakery where we sat outside talking to the two galahs. ( Don t talk about other MAPS members like that, Ed) Much hilarity and many galah metaphors later we left for the Power Rally on the oval. The oval hosted some pretty nice machinery including classic, vintage and veteran cars, bikes, trucks and stationary engines. The tractor pull was fascinating for one who has never seen it before. We particularly liked the pedal cars after restoring one of our own recently. Later in the afternoon as displays began to pack up and leave, we returned to the motel, deciding to go to Clayton s Bay for tea. That proved to be a wise decision as the food at the cafe was the highlight of the weekend. Owner/ chef and her partner 9 provided amazing service and superb food which was reasonably priced. We sat outside watching jet skis on the lake and savouring an explosion of flavours from the food. Five star rating! On returning to the motel we joined some other MAPS members for drinks and nibbles until it was time to retire. Monday was the last day for us, travelling back to the Peninsula. We made a day of it going across to Cape Jervis and back through Yankalilla, stopping many times to sight see the beautiful southern coast. Another fantastic campout over, we can reflect on the wonderful scenery, the plethora of activities and the great company. Roll on June and the Quorn trip. Can t wait! Carol with yellow stilettos to match the car. Photo courtesy of Richard Bastian I think he has the picture as his PC screen saver!. Ed

10 OUR MILANG WEEKEND Having previously attended the Milang Yesterday s Power Rally, we were looking forward to the 2019 event as a MAPS supported run. We were booked into a nice dog friendly cabin at the ever helpful Lakeside Caravan Park, enabling us to use the Mercedes 450SLC for a comfortable trip via the City. We were mindful of the Tour Down Under being held in the usual areas through which we usually take a more scenic route. Nicely settled in and finding the majority of those due to arrive in place, we joined with others for drinks and meals at the excellent Milang Bowling Club, a short walk from the park. The lakeside area provides an excellent place to walk and to exercise an active dog! The cabin was well equipped and clean, with a useful fenced area. As the actual rally is held over two days, we opted to take the car in to the show on the Sunday, allowing us to join others on a Saturday run to the Finnis General Store and Café for lunch where we met up with Mike and Jan Greenwood from Strathalbyn. Great place; we d go back there again. For the afternoon, we took in a tour of Milang which has a lot more to offer than you might first think. Then at 5.30 PM, a short walk to the newly renovated Pier Hotel where we received excellent food and service. At one point after the meal, we did have concerns for the caravan keys lost by John Buttfield, but they were in the door. However it provided some entertainment as we groveled on the floor. This was surpassed by the appearance of Carol Wilkin; you know, the quiet retiring girl from Coobowie. She was sporting the dress and yellow stiletto high heals she had bought in the Strathalbyn op shop. The outcome of this was that husband Doug was seen to have plasters on his back when he appeared the next morning. The down side to the fun weekend was that we missed having Rod and Pat Nixon present as Rod was spending a few day sin Maitland Hospital. One Sunday morning we headed for the show, having entered the 450SLC in a display of about 60 cars and assorted vehicles from motorcycles to armoured trucks. We were grateful to be offered shelter from the sun by way of a gazebo erected by VSCC member Peter Dawes owner of a very nice Wolseley saloon, to be joined by the Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire of Andrew Christophersen. A most enjoyable day on the oval with plenty to look at and people to catch up with, topped up with great servings of strawberries and cream. An aerial display by a Tiger Moth was another bonus. For Sunday evening a quiet evening with Ken and Jeanette Heinrich soon got livelier when the other motelliers, i.e. the Wiltons, Wilkins and Bastians joined the party. Monday dawned and the P.S. Oscar left her mooring at Milang to head back to Goolwa as the sun rose. A fitting end to the weekend.. Mike O Below our comfy cabin

13 Our Australia Day Timeline 6.30am: Woke on Australia Day and decided to join the run to Bethany for the 4 Club Meet Up. 6.50am: Peter headed to the shed to pack and prepare the Mercedes, while I went to the kitchen packing our picnic lunch and finding a quick snack for breakfast. 7.15am: Peter is at the door saying he couldn t find our folding table. He had cleaned it and put it in a very safe, dust free, place after the November Breakfast Run... Both of us go looking in every cupboard in every shed, sometimes twice. Didn t find it! Have to go without it! 7.45am: Gulp down breakfast of coffee and croissants, place the lunch, hats and chairs carefully in the boot. 7.50am: Drive out the gate with me saying, No way will we make Pt Wakefield by 9 o clock for the 9.15 departure time. 8.00am: Plan B decided if there is no-one at the BP we will head to Dublin, Mallala, Gawler, Tanunda and Bethany. 8.57am: Just passing Pt Clinton. Definitely not going to make Wakefield by 9, but may get there by am: Enter Pt Wakefield limits to find 6 Club cars and a happy group of MAPS members still chatting and very surprised to see us. (The night before we had sent Raelene and Neil White a message saying that we hadn t planned to attend.) No need for Plan B 9.17am: Dick and Jenny Penhall drive up with the bonnet of the XR Ford Ute ajar. One way to cool down the starter motor that malfunctioned when starting after a short visit to the shop, 9.22am: Following some lastminute instructions from Richard, we headed off in convoy along the Pt Wakefield Road. Peter soon found that the Kompressor didn t like the k/hr. speed. Obviously, neither did the Penhall s ute. As they went passed the lead car, we slipped in behind them and travelled together to Mallala where had a comfort stop at the oval am: Our fellow travellers are seen driving out of Mallala toward Gawler. We head off after them with Dick and Jenny following. I did mention to Peter that the speed limit on the Gomersal Road was 90 km/hr. more than once. but he could see the convoy just ahead! 11.00am: Arrive as a group at the Bethany oval to find some members from the Gawler Club, Barossa Club and the Kapunda Chapter of NARC were already there but we managed to find some shady trees to park under and set up our chairs on the grass. It was great to see some off YP MAPS members there. In all there were 24 members in 12 Club cars and a modern (see Richard s grid for details) 11.15am: Walked around, admiring the wide variety of vehicles, of all ages, makes and styles. It is great to catch up and chat to enthusiasts from other Clubs. Loved the 1928 Dodge boat tail roadster, the vintage Rolls Royce and the 1983 Jaguar Convertible. I wouldn t mind the HT Monaro GT being parked in our shed! 12 noon: Ate our picnic lunch while enjoying a wide range of very nice cars driving past, some arriving, some leaving, while others were just cruising around. Some members enjoyed visit from friends and family who live in the area. 2.00pm: Everyone seemed to be packing up and leaving, so we did too. 4.30pm Edithburgh. Pam Wilton. Arrived home at

Our TR4A followed Ian Burman in the TR5 and we arrived with plenty of time to spare. Top rate instructions and marshalling saw us lined up with the Gawler club s display. Our first task was to meet up with the new owners of the Bristol 409, Ian and Judy Robinson. Then we ate a much needed freshly cooked BOCA breakfast. The next few hours all disappeared so quickly as there were so many people to talk to and cars to admire. I missed several cars I was hoping to inspect closer. A fifteen minute aerial display by Chris Sperou in Pitt Special had the crowds motionless as the plane rose, twisted and turned almost above us. All too soon it seemed we were on our way home, taking the country route and arriving before 6 PM. The TR4A behave faultlessly and economically, so her space in the garage looks safe. Pictures show the contrasts of pre war and post war Bentley and Alvis. The Bentley was so comfortable, I think the driver was asleep in the back! Thank you to the ABD team for another splendid show. 19 19 Sunrise Breakfast at Ardrossan, February 17th Another well supported Sunrise Breakfast event for MAPS, situated this time at Ardrossan's cliff top car park and BBQ area. Members attending looked to be around thirty five in number. With the combination of the mobile BBQ towed up from Pt Vincent by Lyn and Trevor Clerke and the on site electric unit, cooking was easy. We had an urn ready on the boil as the diners arrived from about 8 AM. Rod and Vonny Hill literally hit some back luck on the way; a quail flew into the Lexus grille should that have been grill.? Roy, a visitor from the Warrnambool Historic Vehicle Club called by and as a result we look forward to meeting a group from his club which will be visiting the YP in late April, early May. 23 23 Proposed Constitutional Changes Preamble Under the current constitution there is little time for the Treasurer to close the books, have them audited and present the audited statement to the AGM. With the club growing at a rapid rate and therefore the necessity to spread the load more, it is seen as necessary to increase the committee membership. There have been name changes for Historic Registration and this needs to be changed in the By-Laws. The use of capitals for Committee and Association has been haphazard and this needs to be consistent. The constitution states at the moment the following: 2. Definitions the Act means the Association Incorporation Act 1985 Subscription c) The membership subscription fees shall be determined as the members shall determine from time to time in general meetings. 6.2 Appointment a) and up to 6 ordinary committee members g) Notice shall be given to Association members of the members seeking election. 8.1 Annual General Meeting a) The Annual General Meeting (AGM) shall be convened in July of each year. 8.4 General Meeting Procedures a) The quorum at any at any General Meeting shall be 9 financial members. and it is proposed to make the following changes 2.
