1 The EVENTER May 2018 San Martin Horsemen s Association 2018 San Martin Horsemen s Association President s Message Hello members! We had over 20 people attend our April general meeting. Those that were brave enoug enough h to venture out on Friday the 13th were rewarded with good food and an interesting presentation by Lori Oleson on the T-Touch Touch Method. I d like to extend a huge thank you to Lori for taking the time to speak to our club! Our Ranch Playday is likely a day away as you read this newsletter. The event is May 5th at Blomquist Arena. Registration starts at 9:00am, practice 10:00am to 12:00 noon and competition begins at 1:00. Hot dog lunch will be available for purchase while you contemplate how you re going to maneuver the obstacles for a win! Don t miss it! Lots of fun for you and your horse and prizes for the winners! Come out and support your club. Coit Campout at Coe Park on Memorial Day weekend, May If you don t like to cook, this event is for you. For a small fee your meals will be catered for you. What a deal! Leaves a lot more time to ride! Contact Chere Bargar for more information. Our next gene general ral meeting is Friday May 11th. We will feature our popular Taco Bar for a nominal fee. We will also have Dr Angel Fletcher speaking on First Aid for the Trail. Come enjoy the great food and show our guest speakers that we appreciate the time and effort rt it takes to speak to our club. A good turnout always lets the speaker know we were interested in what they had to say. Keep up the enthusiasm! Our club continues to grow. We ve most recently added five new members to our roster! Let the board know what you d like to do March 21 st 2018 Present: Tim Alton, Kathy McBride, Chere Bargar, Bev VanderWeide, Audra Soltis, Kitty Swindle and Pat Scharfe Meeting called to order at 7:10 p.m. Goodwill: A thank-you card for Karen Luke for doing club taxes was passed around and signed by all. Kitty will mail. Kitty will also write and mail a thank-you note to Lori Oleson for her talk at the April club meeting. s: May (5/11) - Dr. Seales will be unable to speak at this meeting (First Aid on the Trail) Audra will check with Angel Fletcher to see if she is available (confirmed). Information to discuss: what to carry in pack, what to carry in trailer, and emergencies on trail. Taco bar will be available for purchase. June (6/8) - Sandy Parker (Demonstration and BBQ) Chere trying to contactsandy. Play Day: Play Day will be Saturday, May 5. Hotdog, cookie and chips will be served for $5. Kitty to cook. Kitty will also get the porta potty for the month so that we will have it available for Anderson clinic. Divisions are 12 and under, ages13-18, novice adult, open. Many obstacles were discussed. Those decided on are bridge, side pass, rope gate, crazy walk over, reverse switchback turn, party coat, mount, cowboy curtain, drag, around the world, pit and kiss the frog. Possible judges are Tim, Julie Bell, Bev, and Michele Hiatt. Winner prizes discussed were Farnam coupons, entry to future event, and cash. Kitty will supple bibs. Steve Knepper Fund: Audra will keep donations received in Steve s memory in a separate account. Donations will be acknowledged in The Eventer. After discussion, it was decided to name our Spring poker ride in memory of Steve (Stevie Knepper Poker Ride). New Members: Kitty has been reaching out to new members to let them know of upcoming events. Most recent members are Laura Nichols, Ron and Lori Wyrich, Amy Alfred and Maraya Wyrich Financial: As of March 31, our checking account balance was $ and our savings account balance was $ th Anniversary Event : Dates are Saturday, August 4 and Sunday, August 5. Ride Saturday at leisure. BBQ and potluck dinner will be served (club to supply meat and attendees to bring deserts and salads). Social hour before BBQ. Past Presidents are Jerry Jackson, Phil Atwood, Jim Mansel, Karen Mansel, Judy Dement, Lori Crosby and Greg Linden. It would be nice to have a story board and have some of the older members share their memories. Kitty will check with her daughter-in-law about old club videos. 3 May Play Day Once again the Blomquists are generously lending us their terrific arena to hold a Ranch Trail Competition. As a member there are many ways to help make this a great event: 1. Print the flyer on page5 and invite your friends, drop it off at the store if you don t see one there already. 2. Volunteer to help with setup, coaching, judging or cleanup, contact any board member. 3. Participate, you and horse will have a great time. Jack Brook Horse Camp This year we are trying to encourage a larger participation at Jack Brook to ensure that we at least break even. It is a great value for the money at a terrific park and camping facility. As mentioned in the board meeting minutes other clubs will be invited to join us. So if you are planning on coming to Jack Brook this summer please book early. 5 San Martin Horseman s Play Day Ranch Trail Competition Saturday May 5th 2018 Sign up at 9:00am Practice the course from 10:00 12:00 Competition starts at 1:00pm $45 member, $50 non-member $25 age 12 & under $15 to add an extra class $5 Discount for early registration Divisions: Age 12 and under Ages Novice Adult Open (anyone can enter) Prizes in each division Come join us for a day of fun on horseback. The event will be held at the Blomquist Arena: 8885 Guibal Ave. Gilroy. Directions: Take New Ave. to Roop Road and go west on Roop. Then go straight, do not turn on Guibal, and you will pull all the way to the back of the property, where there is plenty of parking. About 7 miles. Gate at Coyote Creek entrance open only from 9 9-9:30 am. We will ride part of the Anza Ride, return to the trailers for lunch, then tour the Hot Springs. Most trailers will be blocked in, so everyone needs to be prepared to tour the GHS HS or wait at their trailer until the group returns. There is a $5 charge for the tour. $6 parking fee. Bring exact amount. Pick up all manure and carry out at staging area. Again, depending on when we start riding and how long lunch is, should be done about 2-3 pm. Ranch Day at Hunting Hollow May 19th bring the family and learn about Ranch Life and Ranch Animals. Pet animals and meet some mini horses. There will be lots of crafts and exhibits.
