1 Volume 20 Month 11 ember 2014 Next Membership Meeting Please join us on ember 5th for Cody Magill's presentation on the history of the former Rock Point Park near Ellwood City. Cody will discuss the rise and fall of the amusement park, the purchase of the property by the Wild Waterway Conservancy and its designation as a nature preserve. Cody will compare what the park looks like today and where some of the remaining structures can be found. Recreational opportunities in the area will also be covered, including an interesting kayak/hike loop. NCTA September 28 Hike From the Rt. 528 trailhead we hiked north past the Lake Arthur overlook which on this day provided a tranquil view of the lake. We continued on to the new raised trail where we stood around admiring and discussing it among other important subjects. On the way back, Eric Chapman demonstrated how to use a hammock and how to set up a tarpaulin tent. Old photo of the "Shoot the Chutes" amusement ride at Rock Point Park. Only remnants can be found today. Last Reminder BOC 20th Year Anniversary Dinner Saturday 8 at the East Butler Fire hall Silent auction 5:00 Dinner 7:00 Past presidents' presentation 8:00 $15 per person Deadline for reservations October 31. Mail check to BOC, PO Box 321, Harrisville, PA ATTENTION! Also we need more auction items since this is our only fund raiser of the year. Please drop off or Alice Stehle at astehle@zoominternet.net After the demonstration we finished the hike, passing the overlook and returning to the 528 trailhead. Afterward some of the hikers went to a local eatery to replenish the calories which they had expended in such a carefree manner.
